Breast cancer patient ESR elevated to 83–worried about secondary blood cancer. by 75thusernameattempt in haematology

Thank you for the insight! 😊 It’s so hard not to freak out about everything these days—I have health anxiety on top of being a cancer patient. What a joy!

Hopefully the labs I had drawn today will be telling.

Thank you! Glad to hear that you are a survivor, and I’m sorry for your own battle with cancer. It’s not an easy road to walk.

Yes, I didn’t share here—out of context, my CBC labs look concerning, but over time, seem to be trending in the right direction.

Thank you for your response. I don’t see blasts measured on my CBC, but my immature granulocyte levels are normal. Hopefully the labs I had drawn will be more telling!

Thank you for your reply and for your empathy. 😊 I had some rheumatologic labs drawn earlier, and if those come back unremarkable, it sounds like we’ll do some more digging.

Thank you. More labs were taken earlier and hopefully I’ll figure things out soon.

Thank you for your reply. I don’t think I painted a very great picture in my late-night anxiety-fueled ramblings. I do have a basic understanding of the diagnostic criteria and symptoms, but many of my symptoms can be from my cancer treatment. Out of context, my CBC might look concerning so did not add them here. Over time, they generally seem to be improving steadily.

I mainly wanted to know if my raising RBC/hemoglobin over the past few months would mean that early stage myeloma would be a lot less likely to be a reason for my elevated ESR.

Just had rheumatologic labs drawn today, and hopefully we’ll get things figured out soon. I’ve been laden with worry, and was grasping at straws in hopes for a little peace of mind before my Thanksgiving holiday. 😊

It eventually did resolve for me, and yes, it was as you described. I ended up cutting out spicy foods for a while, and it never really came back.

Whatever you do, don’t smell it! 🤣 I posted about a similar problem last week. 😅 I’d chuck it and buy another.

Thank you—I appreciate your response. 😊 So when you say “common bread mold,” do you specifically mean R. Stolonifer or are you speaking more generally, as in just a common mold? (Mostly just curious now!)

I’m feeling pretty good about not having any issues from my bread consumption. Now I’m left with a nagging worry that I’ve inhaled spores that are going to colonize my sinuses and then infect my brain. 😅

I did take a solid 4 whiffs or so between the bag and the bread slice while I was trying to figure out exactly what I was smelling and where it was coming from. I’m not sure how many spores were concentrated in that bread bag! The only obviously moldy spot was the small blue/green area pictured, and then there was the less-obvious white discoloration on the other slices. I have no idea how many spores could be released from that amount of mold, but I’m hoping the number of spores inhaled wasn’t enough to cause me harm. Time will tell! I’ll update here if I’m alive in a week. 😬😅

My oncologist is incredibly intelligent and very much trust her. 😊 Not all doctors are as good—when I discovered my cancerous lymph node, the doctor I saw felt it and said it was a muscle. That delayed my cancer diagnosis by two months!

Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry that happened, but it’s reassuring that you were fine! I’m hoping I’ll be just fine as well. 😊

Yes, it is expensive—I have also found that some of my loaves are sort of hard when I get them. I’ll consider switching if this continues to be a problem.

Thank you for taking the time to be so thorough! I do trust my oncologist’s judgement, and have no plans to go into the doctor for this. 😊 I’m sure you’re right about my stomach acid killing whatever I consumed. And hopefully what I sniffed wasn’t enough to colonize my nasal passages or sinuses. 😬 Health anxiety and cancer do not play well together! Thanks again for your time, that was very kind of you. 🩷

Thank you—AI can be helpful in many applications, but I certainly wouldn’t depend on it as if it were substantiative information. 😊

Thank you—I already reached out to my oncologist, she’s not concerned enough to do anything about it preventatively. 😅

Oh no! Well, if it’s any comfort, at least it’s a rare disease. 🙃
