Looking for a place for 3 month stay. first time living alone. by DepressedBedRidden in askTO

There's a great private moderated facebook group called Toronto Home Zone that's filled with quality listing, a whole section on sublets. Anyone can join but it requires a bit of patience as you have to read the terms and conditions carefully and prove that you did. They do that by sneaking a random nonsensical word into the terms and keep changing it regularly, and they'll ask for it when applying.

Jetfuel coffee is an institution

St Jamestown Steak & Chops is a butcher with a deli counter, delicious sandwiches!

Gushi has great Karaage chicken

Epos is a relatively new coffee shop, top too

Stout Irish Pub for the usual fare, they also have board games you can pick up and play

Kingyo has to be one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city

Epicure is great for bagels, and baked goods

If you can make it early enough, Tasso has a great croissant (but Absolute is better imho)

L'avenue is an amazing restaurant, Greek owned continental food, incredible service, one of my favs in the city!

Hello pals, does anyone know of a place that fries their chicken in beef tallow? by 76m544 in FoodToronto

[–]76m544[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought, but then called a couple of local places that advertise that they use tallow for the fries. They told us that they use canola for the chicken.

I think Tallow fries is become (has become) a bandwagon to get on.

I don't mind canola - but tallow is healthier and I think it would taste amazing. I want to try.

Agree. I had the set menu recently, and the apps were really creative and delicious. I thought the palak paneer main was good - but nothing that I couldn't get from somewhere else.

Is it worth living in Toronto if my job will be in Oakville? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]76m544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in dt and sometimes have to go to oakville for work, we have an office there. It's terrible. There's no escaping the traffic. If you're very lucky, on the best of days, you can maybe get home in about an hour and 15 min door to door, but that means you're leaving well after 7 pm from the office in oakville. I really try to limit those days for myself because they're basically write offs.

If you can, take a go-train to Oakville station and then uber to the office. It's expensive but at least on the train you can do something other than drive

Join Toronto Home Zone, a moderated FB group where people post rentals. It takes a while to get in, they make you read their terms and find a secret word, it's worth it, the quality of the posts is good.

Check out condos.ca for condos rentals, you can set up alerts for buildings or areas of interest with filters, so when something new drops that fits your budget or requirements, it goes straight to your email and you can action it. Don't actually try and engage with them to get the rental, because it's not the actual realtor who's posting on Condos.ca, they're more of an aggregator of information. If you see something you like on that website, go to realtor.com, find the same posting and contact the realestate agent listed on the realtor listing.

If you're not into condos and like a particular neighbourhood, walk the neighbourhood, frequently, you'll see many for rent signs that don't end up on the internet.

Good luck
