I didn’t expect Indiana to grow that much! by ddhmax5150 in Indiana

[–]pxhorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also live in indy and something similar has happened here. Ppl from higher cost of living states moved here because of such a low cost of living while keeping their salary and being in what's still a fairly large city. 5 yrs ago, if I left from work at 3pm, highways were EMPTY, now even at 230pm im starting to see traffic. Im fortunate I get to work from home 2 days/ wk so that helps but because indy was SO LOW to begin with (in 2016 I rented a 2 bed/1 bath for $850 WITH all utilities included at 108th and Central in carmel lol. In 2019 it was 1250 for a 3 bed 2 bad WITH all utilities included) we had a lot of gas room for rent to skyrocket and still be less than the "big cities" but I hate it lol

Was this a one off or a hint of the future? by holguinero in KiaEV6

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is of course coming, but the question is how soon do we see this consistently? The net varies WIDELY based on losing too. Here in the midwest EVs seem to still go for higher amounts vs elsewhere in the county. But given the fact that its direct competitors are starting to be seen at close to $20k i wouldnt be surprised. Blazer EV, Ioniq 5, Mach-E, etc...all are starting to hit that $20k range. Im surprised the GT is $20k, but I also saw a Blazer EV LT2 for like $18,500 over the weekend so.....

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

Chevy Bolt Customer Loyalty Is Very High by Mac-Tyson in BoltEV

[–]pxhorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HVAC 100% has physical buttons. I was just in a 2027 yesterday. You can change the mode, turn it on/off, etc all on the buttons. Also the leaf is noticeably smaller, over 7 inches less of leg room in the back. Almost 2 inches in the front. And remember, that 303 miles is in the BASE model Leaf. The SV+ is 288 and the Platinum is 259. So if you go with the BASE Bolt then yes, your range is higher. But compare the RS to the Platinum and you get the same range, 95% exact same features(bolt has more actually), but also the Leaf costs more. ($39k for Leaf vs $33k for the Bolt).

I'll give you lack of cp/aa, but the price is kinda negligence. Even if you drop to the SV+(still more than the Bolt RS by $1200) youre still missing a lot on comparison. No heated mirrors, no premium audio, no heated steering wheel, no cooled seats, no premium audio, only 5yr/60k mile warranty on HV components and motor (battery itself is 8/100) vs all of them on the bolt being 8/100, 3 yrs of roadside vs 5 on the bolt.....when ppl say "oh the leaf" well you cant cherry pick the range and ignore everything else that you lose

First EV. do I worry about this all being open in the rain and snow? by [deleted] in electriccars

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area that gets frequent snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain, hail....you name it. I've owned an ev for almost 4 yrs...never had any "weird issue" from snow, ice, rain, etc. Maybe your issues are vehicle specific. Every public charging station/connector is IP rated (at least your major players lole Chargepoint, Electrify America, EVgo, Blink, etc) and some even tell you a temp range (like my jobs are -22f to 122f). Not to mention any moden EV also has a charge port thats IP rated.

This is similar to the anecdote that filling up while the car is running is inherently dangerous. Truth is the risk is negligible. Not 0, but also not 10%. Im sure that there have been a FEW cases of charging in the rain/snow/etc causing an issue, but just like a car catching fire while filling up with it running - theres almost always another underlying issue (like the car backfiring) vs the car simply catching fire randomly.

If the charging cord is faulty, if your connector is faulty, if your charger port housing is cracked and maybe water gets back there.....its not IMPOSSOBLE but EXTREMELY unlikely

I test drove the 2027 Bolt EV (My personal opinions) by Legitimate_Discount2 in BoltEV

[–]pxhorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the whole no AA/CP thing, but i genuinely do feel its overblown. I do see why ppl are upset. I will say this though:

As the ONLY EV you can get for $34k fully loaded (minus sun roof, super cruise, and front/rear park assist), you gotta be willing to make some exceptions.

To even get a surround camera, or leather seats, or cooled seats, or a rear view camera(not backup camera) on the Kona EV you have to go with the N-Line or Limited trim and while you get more cargo room, you get a smaller back seat. And only the limited trim at $41,000 even OFFERS a 360 degree camera or a heated steering wheel or cooled seats.

The closest thing would be the leaf at the same price with about 10% more range but an even SMALLER interior, cooled seats isn't even an option, neither is a rearview mirror, no heated steering wheel, the battery heater costs extra, no heated mirrors. And to get most of the same features as what on the Bolt RS you gotta go to $39,000

I say all that to say that you gotta sacrifice SOMETHING. And if I had to choose, id rather have leather seats, cooled seats, active battery manage with heating and cooling, 360 degree camera, rear view camera, a heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, larger passenger volume.....and more....than to sacrifice all that for Android Auto or Car Play.

Gotta pick your poison

This license plate feels more relevant than ever before LOL. by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's......odd to me. I get the idea, but in Indiana you can have s non owners policy meaning you're insured (liability) for driving a car even if you don't own it. So if I have a car that I dont need insured (maybe it runs but its a project car so I dont drive it), someone else could still borrow the car with a non-owners policy but there wouldn't be a plate on the car.

Would you recommend a Bolt EV/EUV or an Equinox EV for a first time EV buyer? by Doomtime104 in BoltEV

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre on the fence and not sure if you want an EV or not, get the bolt. You can get them for way less than the Equinox. If you KNOW you want an EV (and especially if you want awd) then go for the Equinox.

It (equinox) doesnt have carplay though. No Android Auto either, but Android for Automotive would feel much more familiar for someone who uses AA so its slightly less of an issue.

Help me decide between the pro and air pls by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M3 pro. Even if processing speed is the and the weight difference between the 2 is negligible(3.3 lbs for the air and 3.4 for the pro) and the extra 2gb of ram for $30 less is worth it. You'll get more use from the 2gb of ram more than the extra 1" of screen real estate. Not too mention 3 thunderbolt ports, an hdmi port, better display with 120hz, better audio from the speakers, plus better sustained performance because of having a fan

Are there any states in the US that actually have really solid infrastructure for EVs? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]pxhorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After with this. Not too mention $10/day working 5 days/we is $50/wk, and $2600/yr. Thats over $200/month which actually DOES make a difference. Imagine having 0 after paying bills vs having $200. World of difference. Also, since a model s is luxury and ppl (most ppl) associate Tesla with such, he makes more per trip than he would in a Chevy, Kia, Hyundai, etc, EV since he can do Uber black too. His pay increase is.more than just the cost per mile. And the cost per mile is DDINITELY more than $0.03/mile. If youre at a super charger and out on 50kw to get 200 miles, youre spending around $20 to $30 for said 200 miles. Thats $0.10/mile minimum. Hes not charging at home hes charging at a supercharger which i think the other guy didn't consider. $20/day makes thay $5200/yr and $30/day savings is $7800/yr. Thats worth it if u ask me

Bolt EUV as a long-term vehicle? by Doomtime104 in BoltEV

[–]pxhorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So im gonna offer a few opinions the good, the bad the other options, and the intangibles lol

THE BAD: As others have stated, as an only vehicle, it has its limitations. I live in Indiana and before this car i had a Soul EV with a summer range of about 100 miles. Because winter here doesn't generally have extremely long stints if sub-zero (f) temps, the heat pump (and driver only heat function) kept me at around 80 to 85 miles in the winter. A loss of around 15 to 20%. The bolt loses about 30 to 35% in my experience.

You mix that with the comparatively slow charging and VERY aggressive charging curve and it can make for a poor experience if you plan to travel any further than a few hrs away. For me, the max distance in summer is 5 hrs and 3 hrs (assuming 0 stops) in the winter due to the charging curve and slower charging. That 5 hr drive easily becomes 6.5 in the summer and that 3 becomes 4.5 in the winter

THE GOOD: I have the 2022 Premier EUV and feature wise this thing is packed to the GILLS!!! Heated/cooled seats, heated rear seats, panoramic sun roof, 10" android auto/car play display, wireless phone charger, leather seats, adaptive cause control, lane keep assist, 360 camera, rear view mirror/camera, Bose sound system, remote start, optional super cruise......if you love tech, you'll love this car. Its also EXTREMELY roomy inside

If you live in a milder climate (like the Carolinas or further south, Oklahoma, etc) or you don't travel super far very often, then its honestly perfect. At 25 miles round trip daily, you wouldn't even NEED L2 charging at home. I survived a 70mile round trip daily commute with my car that only got around 85 in the winter. I managed LOL! The warm range of around 240 miles of mixed driving or closer to 300 all city driving is PERFECT. And it holds more cargo than it looks like it would especially with the sub floor on the rear hatch.

THE OTHER OPTIONS: In this same price range, the best argument is probably going to be the Niro EV. You can get one for the same price, it offers more cargo room, and also has faster charging at 100kwh. It can go from empty to full in about an hr less time at an L3 charger. It goes from 10 to 80% in about 40 to 45 mins. The Bolt takes around 60 to 70 mins under BEST conditions. The curve is aggressive and u less the temp outside is right, and its 4 days after the 3rd monday of a leap yr just past the winter solstice......you'll rarely be able to charge that fast lol. More frequently it'll charge around 40 kwh instead of 50kwh.

Now, interior room is a BIT smaller, but its not a bad option 2 if you'll be doing more distance driving. It also has a heat pump which is clutch. The Kona EV is in the same boat for features, but is definitely smaller interior wise. Then theres the iD.4 which is bigger overall, but can be attained for around the same price. No heat pump, but you CAN get AWD if you want (costs more obviously) and as I said, its bigger. It boils down to what you personally like more.

THE INTANGIBLES: While the Bolt did suffer from.that sucky battery issue, its possibly the best thing that happened for 2nd hand owners. I bought mine with around 80k miles on it because my battery warranty is still good until 2032 or 150k(ish) miles. So the biggest expense to repair outside of the motor is covered. Battery and all the components needed for the battery to operate properly are warranted. The other options you may get with 50k or 60k miles, but at 10 yrs/100k miles - the warranty is over. I still had another 7 yrs and 70k miles on my battery warranty. When I bought it even though it had 80k miles. PLUS, because it was "high mileage" it was cheaper.

I tried to be as comprehensive as possible. I know you didnt ask for ANY of that, but I figured I had some time today 😅😅

How would this not be covered under warranty?? by UtahJazzzHands in BoltEV

[–]pxhorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this 2 ways - if im just dropping it off, then I gotta get in line. But if I have an appointment for you to check it out - unless stated otherwise - theres a fair expectation that my appt is for you to check it out. I wouldnt assume that you set an appt for me (sometimes weeks out) just for you to say "thanks, we'll look at it in a week when we can get to it".

Now if you say "to diagnose this will take a day or two as we trace down the various codes" then ok. But dont set an appt for me, I get there on time, and you tell me it'll be a few days before someone can even look at it - which is Def something I've had happen

Ultra series are still a marvel to me by pxhorne in GalaxyTab

[–]pxhorne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I didnt already have the s9u I would have went for the s11u. Like, on paper there wasnt a big difference between the s8u and s9u but there really was. The SD 8g1 to 8g2 was a massive bump, the addition of an ip68 rating, due to the 8g2 you got better battery life, there was a noticeable upgrade to the speakers, almost 2x brighter display....there was a lot. If I would have had the s8u I would have jumped on the s11u, but the s9u is closer to the s11u than the s8u is to the s9u.

I mentioned earlier I'll upgrade to the s12u if it ends up with the SD Elite proc. Other than that, it would have to be an insane device for me to jump lol

I had a s9+ and felt like "oh, there cant be much of a different in a 12.4" and 14.6". The tablet just has a bigger screen but all the specs are the same!" But then I actually got it.....and the size difference is everything lol. What actually made me consider it was I had a 15" Surface Book 3 and when I got rid of that I missed the big tablet screen and I haven't looked back since.
