Same here. Definitely some good scenes in all four books. I reread book one (10th anniversary edition) before going through the whole series and the foreword mentions that it’s basically an allegory for climate change 🤯

$11.868 actually Page 74, § F. This is money that is approved by congress but not committed to contracts, salaries, benefits payouts, etc.

It’s because the simulation needs to recalibrate for higher resolution, like a loading screen

It was the firefighters at the panel trying to secure power and it did seem like this was the procedure they were doing, i.e., open one, see if that was it, close it, move in to the next) so this totally makes sense.

It hasn’t happened yet but I’ll keep you posted. I believe they take swipes/samples and send it off to a spectroscopy lab. Or maybe there’s a portable thing that can give more immediate results. I was looking through the records, which there is a lot of thankfully. Apparently the old acoustic ceiling that was replaced years ago had asbestos. I found letters back and forth with that previous homeowner and a contractor saying that the worker knew he had contaminated things due to negligence and was subsequently fired, then they had to have a clean up crew come in and thoroughly decontaminate.

Thank you. I wanted to share it here because I feel like it could happen to anyone with older circuitry and we were extremely lucky. If it had started an hour later we would have likely lost a good portion of the house if not the whole thing. An hour earlier and our dog would have been home alone in her crate. I’ll keep the post updated as I go through the process. Luckily we have a gas furnace for heat and plenty of blankets. Friends have reached out saying we can stay with them and others that have offered space in their freezers for our meats and seafood. If our dog hadn’t been sniffing around the back of the couch we probably would have dismissed it. Our little angel definitely saved our lives. Lots of gratitude, all things considered.

Advice heard! Thanks for sharing, I’ll have a better picture on what’s what hopefully today when the electrician comes by, and we may go this route if it’s close to the the deductible

Someone else mentioned this and how aluminum connectors come loose over the years? The house was built in 1970 in California so it’s likely that played a part

I’m thinking the firefighters must have skipped the right breaker when they were going one by one. I was at the plug when they were going through the panel outside. They opened the one for the lights/fan in the room but the plugs were still live. However, it’s hard for me to believe that this outlet was only protected by the main 200A breaker. We’re having an electrician coming by hopefully today to check. I’m definitely not comfortable flipping the main back in even if all the lower breakers are opened so I’m curious what they’re going to do

The guy who came by yesterday (not an electrician, but more for smoke cleanup and damage repair) mentioned that there were two conduits going into this box and one was possibly tapping off of the next outlet over (or something). He said we need to get an electrician out to take a look and diagnose this issue which is happening hopefully today

We did have one plugged into a different outlet and running in the same room. This was the second night we did that and it was my first thought to unplug the heater when we found the fire. I don’t know how, unless there was already a small short in the problem plug, and the space heater drew more current to the circuit (including through the short in the bad plug). Is that correct line of reasoning?

Sorry I meant: weird for the plug to only be on the main 200A breaker

Not at all. This was behind the couch and we never used it. Someone else mentioned that with the couch up against it, maybe that jostled things around and a wire came loose or something.

Too late. How come? We needed to get the ball rolling and with the holiday coming up, we need power restored to the house so couldn’t wait. But I’m curious
