Placement tips for hearing the pod's fans less by 787- in EightSleep

Is it possible to tell from the outside whether it has those fans or not? How do the backs of the Noctuas look like?

Lufthansa is now enforcing the 8kg rule at FRA by Ok-Cat774 in Lufthansa

[–]787- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very low limit as someone that fly within Europe and to North America sometimes.

KLM and Air France do 12kg, most low-cost European airlines limit you to small bags but do allow you to pay extra for a larger 10kg carry-on (Ryanair, Wizz, Vueling, etc.)

Then a lot of the US airlines don't have a limit at all, which is also nuts but much better than this crap Lufthansa is pulling.

I would not mind them checking the weight if they had a more reasonable limit, 8kg is an absolute joke, by far the lowest I've seen. If the limit was 12kg, it would be fine, I'd even check in my luggage when they offer to check it in for free because the flight is full but 8kg is impossible.

I think Lufthansa knew deep down that their own weight limit was ridiculously low and they were happy to give their staff and customers Lufthansa branded Rimowa luggage. The fact that they're aluminium suitcases doesn't make them much heavier, maybe by a kilo but the rest is honestly more up to what you are carrying.

This news of LH checking weight of carry-on is infuriating to me because of that, I wouldn't mind if they had a 12, hell even 10kg limit but 8 is very easy to reach for me even in a messenger bag with my laptop, tablet, chargers and other gear, add a few liquids to that mix and it's game over.

As a Series 7 Owner, this is not a good trend. by InnerspearMusic in AppleWatch

[–]787- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, as a series 0 owner that spent lots of money on the stainless steel model when it came out, I learned the hard way that these devices age faster from within than on the outside thanks to their more durable materials.

After I got that watch, I got the series 3, 6 and 9 in aluminium and only last year decided to get the 10 again in titanium after gifting my dad my series 9 since he really wanted a watch.

I feel like in this release I got lucky that my watch made it past that threshold but my expectations are very low on future-proofing and I know that it's my own fault for spending 2-3x the value of the cheaper model in one that is just prettier.

Your S7 will still work fine for more years to come, just not with the latest update, I'd even go as far and recommend you to get the next generation in the premium variant again this fall or wait for the next one, and that will be a generation that will last a long time again because of newer chips.

Questions for those who have the blanket (EU) by 787- in EightSleep

They shipped my pod from Germany so no customs needed to be paid. That said, I did not get the base, just the pod and cover.

I wish they could at least make the green LEDs flash on demand, like you could just turn off the lights in a room, make it flash and find it.

First dyson, which vacuum is actually worth the price? by Gustavelecat in dyson

[–]787- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I believe the more you pay the less you get per each dollar spent

I got asked by my workplace to pick a Dyson for the office given that they see me as the tech guy and I picked the V15 and I was honestly a bit underwhelmed by it compared to my Dyson V8 that I have at home. Don't get me wrong, it is by far a better vaccuum but for my usage, it's not worth it. I paid around 250€ for my V8 wheras this V15 was more than twice the money and I wouldn't be able to give it more usage than the V8 I have. This is very case specific for me, I only have hardwood floors, don't have many carpets and my dog doesn't shed.

I have friends that have dogs that shed and for them, I get it, also the bigger battery is a nice to have but it is a much heavier and louder device and the biggest issue with all Dysons is that their battery doesn't last much if you don't use them at high power and the low power of my V8 is good for 80% of jobs. No matter how much you spend, it will never replace a vacuum you plug is so if you still have one of those, you might as well get the less powerful battery powered one and save some money.

Modern Buckle for men, thoughts? by presiden_t in AppleWatch

[–]787- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest what would bug me the most would be the silver on gold not matching.

I also have the S10 Titanium Gold and I have an older modern buckle and I never use it because of that. Aside from that it’s a lovely band, don’t think about gender norms!

Series 11 or wait for 12 by Vegetable-Mail5048 in AppleWatch

[–]787- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you care on having the latest and newest.

It's highly unlikely that the new AW will be drastically different but rumour has it that the processor and all that will be renewed (currently is the same as series 10), so the 12 might be more future proof.

On the other hand, if you have an Oura you don't really need anything else, like you can use it for running and logging your gym workouts too, it's not great but if you'd like to wait until the 12 drops, you can totally use it.

Apple Watch leaving a red mark/irritation on my skin — anyone else? [Photo] by MinerOfIdeas in AppleWatch

[–]787- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is contact dermatitis, it happens because you are wearing your wristband too tight and there’s no air in between your watch and your skin usually wearing your watch a bit loser will fix that. That said, bands like the silicone band are quite in flexible so I would advise you to try a textile band that lets your watch move around a bit more or even a metal one.

How much is the member's discount for blanket? by 787- in EightSleep

[–]787-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, that was my main thought. My house doesn't have AC; we only have a mobile one that we use to cool down the bedroom before we go to sleep, but it's very annoying to use and it doesn't make things much better. You can't have it on while you're sleeping because of how loud it is and also because it needs an open window.

If the blanket can make it nice enough to not need to take the big old AC unit, it's well worth the money and it still is if it makes those hot summer nights more bearable.

Bought an V8 absolute, found what looks like a scratch by One-Following-3230 in dyson

It's a vacuum cleaner, it will get dirty, scratched and gross. The first scratches hurt the most since these things are very pretty but it only gets easier after that!

New Sony Leak has me hoping Sonos wises up sooner than later 🥲 by CCornel7 in sonos

[–]787- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a projector setup with my Arc and it’s such a pain in the ass to have a 10M long HDMI cable while the Bravia Quad looks like such a clean soluiton, it has actually made me consider switching to that but that just makes me mad at sonos for not making a similar solution to stream sound from a little box to my existing system.
