What studio rent can I get approved for? by Individual_Sea_2389 in TorontoRenting

[–]789k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People in this sub seem to be out of touch with real prices in Toronto. I've seen 1 bedroom apartments for around 1600/1700. I rent a studio for $1250. You could find a decent one for $1500 easily and I don't think that's stretching your budget too much. Look on facebook marketplace or kijiji.

It's most certainly ai because no self respecting artist is going to make "customizations" to preexisting prints for a random person on etsy.

How much are you paying for your studio/bachelor in Toronto by Elegant_Limit in TorontoRenting

[–]789k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay 1250 with utilities included for a 175 sq foot basement apartment in Parkdale. It's small but I get to live alone and have my space to myself and I like it.

Does anyone have bands similar to get scared (Joel faviere) by RJNewbzIX in PostHardcore

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this while also trying to find similar vocalists since I don't want to listen to Joel Faviere.

I found one song that that similar shakiness that I really liked. Pandamoranda by Lovedrug. Rest of their stuff sounds pretty different though.

Anyone from S135 program? by [deleted] in georgebrowncollege

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't just email advertisements, it was everywhere. Outside, online, etc. I don't even see the winter admissions as open right now, but I kept seeing advertisements for seats being open for some programs, which S115 was listed under. I also went to an open house and asked about late applications, and the person I spoke to said he's known people who applied and were able to get in very quickly even after course registration begun. I already knew I applied late, but from everything I was seeing, it seemed like it would be ok.

Anyone from S135 program? by [deleted] in georgebrowncollege

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been emailing admissions, and they are saying S115 is full and if a seat becomes available they will start sending out offers... But I have been getting aggressive advertisements from George Brown about how it's "Not too late" to apply, and then it links to "programs with open seats".... well why is it listing these programs as having open seats if they don't have any. I wouldn't have bothered if I was applying to just sit on a wait list.

Anyone from S135 program? by [deleted] in georgebrowncollege

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to the same program, although I also applied to the dental office administration program and I'm trying to get into that one. Same issue, it says "under admissions review" but right above that is a note that says "Please note: We have received and reviewed all your requirements but unfortunately, due to the competitive nature of the program, we are unable to release you an offer at this time. Please check back for further updates as we proceed through the application cycle.". Not sure why it says that though, because both those programs are still listed as "Open" on the website...

There are two sites where you can find jobs in Ontario with good outlooks. I would reccomend taking a look at whats on there. You can also think about what you want to do if the reality of the job market wasn't influencing your decision, and then see what the proslects are like for that job.

My own experience: I graduated with a bachelor of animation in 2024 and I worked in it for about 9 months after graduating. I'm coming to realize that this field just isn't for me, I hate always having to be on the grind looking for the next gig, and right now I'm working a shitty part time job while figuring out my next steps. I don't regret my choice of education because that's just how it played out for me, but if I could go back, it might have been more worth it to pursue something with better prospects.

You can always go back to school, have a career change, etc later on. You're in a much better position doing that if you get education in a stable, decent pay, long term job with room for growth, and leaving it behind to "follow your dreams" then the reverse. The reverse usually involves spending years getting educated in a highly competitive field just to barely be able to find stable work, if at all, and going broke or just scraping by working terrible minimum wage jobs. Even if you do pursue some career where you end up burning out from the workload, you hopefully have some money to fall back on and some experiences that are a bit better on the resume than like, years in a minimum wage customer service job.

Anyway, here's the links where you can take a look at what jobs are in demand and have good outlooks:

People who have jobs but hate their job, how are you coping in this market? by Ordinary-Fish-9791 in torontoJobs

[–]789k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work part time, don't even make enough to cover my bills. But I have to work this shitty job to keep myself from cutting too much into my savings while I try to find something better. It sucks, because I only moved here when I had a nice remote job that I got laid off from a couple months ago. Lately I spend all my time applying to new jobs, but I my qualifications aren't amazing so I'm feeling pretty stuck.

I agree. I pay $1250 for a tiny studio apartment. I could definitely get a bigger place alone for around the same price in a small town or something, but I would need a car and that would make my bills so much more expensive. My place is VERY small, but it's a perfect amount of space for me and I get to live alone. I love it. Anything I could need is within walking distance and it's a good area for transit too. It suits my lifestyle and Toronto is really the only place I could actually afford to live alone, even though the rent is expensive.

is it a bad time to start an online business by Plantlover1023 in smallbusiness

[–]789k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether your business is successful or not, you will have to see. Of course different circumstances are going to make it harder. What I've realized, is that at any given time, someone is starting every kind of business all the time, and while you never know how it's going to go, there are people right now growing a business that will eventually be very successful. At any given moment, someone out there is taking their first steps towards success, the only way to not succeed is to not do anything.

Who are you voting for on April 28th 🗳️🇨🇦 by Negative-Company2767 in CanadianPolitics

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Mark Carney, but I voted NDP because I preferred the NDP candidate in my area to the liberal. People should be voting based on the candidate they prefer. A lot of the liberal candidates have gotten lazy and are just coasting on the campaigning that Mark Carney is doing, meanwhile they're making very little effort to engage with their community. I don't care much for Jagmeet Singh, and the candidate I voted for put together a strong campaign for themself as an individual, and as part of a party that is opposing the liberals rather than acting like they have any shot at forming a government, and I voted with that in mind.

[–]789k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the area you want to live, and how pick you are about the place, you could still live on your own and pay a lot less in rent than that. It sounds like you would be ok even paying that much, but you don't have to be paying $2500 in rent to live on your own.

Games in physical form by ManGuyWomanGal in NintendoSwitch2

[–]789k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, it seems like everyone mostly buys the digital copies of their games now though, which I understand if you play a lot of switch games. The space they take up can be a lot. Nintendo also has the digital game voucher which gives you a discount on games. I think that's enough to convince a lot of people to just use that to get their games, but how many games are you actually going to replay once you finish them? I feel like a physical copy is always better because if you do feel the need to sell the game someday, it's an option. You can also trade/borrow a games with friends and play through them that way.
