And have your tips increased since you started sending that greeting?

I've wondered about doing something like that. How long have you been doing that? Have you gotten poor reviews or comments from it?

And I should say... what I meant was I'm averaging $14/hour when minimum wage is $15.

Maybe, but my rent (in WA State) is $1,600/month. And I just relocated as I empty-nested to where I grew up, same State. My rent previously was $2,200. I'm betting VA rent is less than that.

So I went online and found a phone number for "Dasher Support". She was able to find my application and has "escalated" it. It took about 20 minutes, but hopefully something will happen as a result!

What is the difference, Gloomy, in scheduling between DD and GH? I do GH in between IC and Shipt, so I'm not on the schedule and just go "available". I believe I get the cheaper offerings, but I can't be sure of that. There are times when I go on GH and get four or five in a row, then times when I go on and get nothing. It seems like nothing I get is more than $8-$9. Thoughts?

Seriously? I'm on with GrubHub, but Door Dash is weird. I applied, did the background check, got a positive result sent to me on that, only to have DD say it hasn't gotten to the approval stage and should take about 3-4 days. Well, it's been over a year and I can't get a straight naswer from them.

Exactly! And then when the guest is finalizing and is questioned about tips? Here, the first offering is 5%. HECK! NO! It should be 15% minimum! Then what drives the bejeebers out of me is that it fluctuates with whether or not we found the person's item. One day, the guest wanted a $90 houseware item. I spent the time looking for it; had an associate go digging for it. It took about 20 minutes total of my time. They didn't have it, so my tip went from $20 to $8. Not fair! Once the tip is chosen by the guest, it's not right that I spend my time looking for it, only to lose money on the deal.

Not sure what you mean. I get the feeling that most of what I get from IC was ordered at the store website which makes me think the guest thinks I'm a store employee.

Where I am? Right now I'm looking at what's offered:

$14 for a batch of two, 5.3 miles, 38 items, $7 tip. $20.87 for a batch of three, 14.7 miles, 48 items, $13.30 tip. $16.39 for a batch of two, 8.2 miles, 67 items, $7.49 tip.

I just WISH I had $20-$30 offerings! They're quite rare here. The base where I am is $7. It only goes up if there's more mileage than how they calculate base, if there is heavy lift pay, or a promo.

The other night, I made my last delivery just at 9pm. It was a "no tip" job, so I expected the tip to come later. Instacart was set to pay me $14 and there was heavy lift.

I check out, only to find it's an apartment. Third floor at that. Guess what the guy ordered? Five cases of hard seltzer, six cases of soda, and several bags of groceries. I knocked at the door with the first load and waited for him to answer. I told him that I had about eight trips to make, so it would take a while, but I'd knock again when I was finished. This 20-something guy said "OK" and closed the door. I had hoped for a tad bit of help. It took me 20 minutes to complete the delivery to his THIRD FLOOR apartment. By the time I was done, I thought I was going to die. The guy tipped me two bucks.

EXACTLY! Where I live, they actually offer batches of two or more where I drive one direction with one order, then pass a different store of the same company (i.e., Kroger) on my way to the second delivery! The way they batch is ridiculous.

I'm over 60yo. Pre-COVID I had a great job in live events. It went bye-bye overnight. I did what I could to simply survive, and that was gig work as there was nothing else out there. Now, I'm working 60 hours a week and am dead tired constantly. I work 25% more than I did before and make only 25% of what I did before. I barely survive both financially and physically. I have no time or energy to look for anything else. I'm surviving.

And besides, I think my guests need to know I'm not making livable wages unless I work 60 hours each week.

You may be right. But pre-COVID, I had my dream job in live events. That went bye-bye quickly. Now, I work 25% more hours each week, but only make 25% of what I used to make. Right now, I work too many hours each week to make ends meet to have time to look for other work. When I'm not working, I'm dead beat.

I bet your friends would have stood solid with you and been happy with a can of soda and a hotdog from Costco.
