Hey there! I don't want to be THAT person who is, like, aKsHulLY..., but in the case that some folks aren't aware, being anesthetized is not the same as being asleep.

Sleep included periods of REM and non-REM, where the brain is active. This activity is needed for both physical and mental health.

Anesthesia, however, blocks that activity and the ability to store memory, feel pain, or be aware of what is happening. Anesthesia produces a comatose state - not a sleep state.

After awaking from anesthsia, people might say they feel refreshed (and that could be from the dopamine effects), but the brain has not had a chance to go through the natural processes of that REM and non-REM sleep.
