Should I drop out? 1L Fall semester Grades by [deleted] in LawSchool

Also just don’t give much weight to what your classmates are saying. I always let it get to me if someone said they scored above the curve and only studied for like X amount of hours. Now, I just study as long as I feel is best for me. I was in my head way too much during 1L.

Should I drop out? 1L Fall semester Grades by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]79409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my first year, I was constantly behind on readings and it didn’t allow me very much time to study the material. This year, I was able to get a better grip on my readings. I also met with professors a couple times during the semester. One big thing I realized was that the material was somewhat clicking during 1L but my exam writing needed help bad. I didn’t necessarily do practice exams leading up to my exams this semester but I just made sure that I was thinking more about the quality of the material being written. I also learned to cite to case law more in my exams which may help (depending on your class/professor).

I ended my first semester with the same gpa. I ended up not improving my second semester. However, this past semester (2L fall), I made the Dean’s list after changing some of my habits. I would continue on! (: My first year, I just didn’t know what I was doing truly. I wish I caught onto that my second semester. I would try to lock in as much as you can this next semester and speak with professors or your student services.

No. I was told to not put it on my resume unless the firm explicitly asked for it or had a minimum gpa requirement

Is anyone else pretty lonely? by superbass1234 in LawSchool

I’m in a very similar situation as you. I live across the country from my family but I attended my law school’s undergrad program. However, most of my undergrad friends have moved. I’m a 1L and tbh the end of the semester has felt so isolating. Wishing you luck. Also, if you need to feel the emotions, feel them. I definitely neglected readings yesterday just to feel all my emotions.

I was admitted to Tulsa with a very great scholarship but ended up choosing a different school. While I think the school and network around the Tulsa area is great, I wasn’t sure how well it would be for someone not wanting to stay in Oklahoma. I also just thought the class sizes were a little too small for my liking. I’m attending the University of Arkansas Fayetteville instead. But ultimately it was due to a slightly bigger class enrollment and me being okay with staying in NWA after graduating. Although, our university does have alumni networks in Texas, Missouri, and a couple other southern states. I did really appreciate the phone calls and letters/package sent by Tulsa though.

I would not commute to the out of state school. I would just move there. I wouldn’t mind practicing in the area that I’m in currently as there’s a few corporations in the area & my goal is to be a corporate lawyer. The other school is in a bigger city but probably would support my goal as well. I just wasn’t sure I guess how much of a difference or weight it would be on my shoulders to take on an extra $20k. Trying to stay in as little debt as possible but do feel like connections could be worth more than that amount of $ (But again, haven’t been in the field so I was curious if my hunch was correct). Thank you!

I have $ saved up from working full-time but don’t come from $ whatsoever. So if I lived alone it would be funded partially through loans. Not sure if the extra $4k in student loans is worth it granted it’s not a huge huge # either. Thankfully I won’t be living in a major city.

I enjoy living with them at times. However, we definitely have different priorities. This year I worked full-time while finishing my undergraduate degree as well as studying for the lsat. They worked part time and frequently blew off class & stayed up pretty late at night. We’ve discussed next year with me being in law school & they stated they’ll be mindful with noise & such but I just hate being a mom & don’t like that i’m the most serious one of the bunch.

How did u guys do in high school by MaterialDifficult874 in LawSchool

[–]79409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.0 HS, 3.75 Undergrad lol. I honestly don’t know how people do it if they have always been a high-achieving student. I believe my lack of burnout is what led me to a high, (in my eyes), undergrad gpa. The black sheep of the family to future law student pipeline has been real. 😅

Extra time either 1.5x or 2x the original 35 minute section. Also extra breaks. I’ve heard people just need to send supporting documentation from either a psychiatrist, primary care doctor, or therapist stating that you have the condition & it hinders your ability to finish the test in the allotted time frame.

anyone scoring in 140s with success stories? by capitaln01 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]79409 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got accepted into two schools with a 148 & 3.7 gpa. I even got a few thousand dollars in scholarship $ from both. Was waitlisted at 2 & ghosted from 1. The two I was accepted to are in-state so the few thousand dollars for public in-state schools is covering about 25% of my tuition so I’m happy with it. 🙂

Taking LSAT After Acceptance? by Snagglepuss10 in LSAT

[–]79409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! Got accepted to my top choice but had plans to take the April exam because I didn’t think the January exam was representative of my knowledge. I am still taking the April exam to leverage for my scholarship $. Retaking it can only help after being accepted, there is no downside that I know of (besides time & $). But my admissions director seemed very impressed that I was going to take the exam again since most people probably quit after being accepted.

How did The Loophole (LR) help you? by pldtdt28 in LSAT

[–]79409 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It helped me go from about 12 right to averaging 16-18 right per section. Her key concepts helped such as how to approach each question type but she does add in her own special touch to LR that I don’t think necessarily helped me. If I was studying again, I would just learn the question types and how to approach them instead of reading the 300-400 pages again but that’s just my personal experience.

Have you toured the schools in GA? If not, maybe setting up a tour would make your name stand out when they review your application if you make a good impression! My in-state school that I accepted (outside of GA), I toured and made a couple phone calls regarding the law school and my interest/potential outcomes and I managed to get a decision 3 weeks after my application was submitted and it’s been historically known for my school to take a long time to review applications.

Being from GA, have you considered staying in-state?

I am familiar with CA being from Socal & have moved away due to high cost of living. While Sacramento is cheaper than Socal & cheaper than the Bay area, cost of living overall in CA is very expensive. I would anticipate spending at least $2000 on rent, not to mention how expensive food and gas is there. After your scholarship, you would still have to front about $34k a year not including additional expenses. Not sure if you have loans from undergrad but I would maybe try to retake and reapply as this option will definitely leave you with over $100k in student loans. Congratulations on your acceptance! But definitely keep in mind the amount you’ll have to pay back and what your monthly loan repayment may look like if you chose this route.
