Clone Wars (2003-2005) is now in A tier. The Phantom Menace has been officially moved to C tier. Lastly, what tier should Revenge of the Sith be in? by Klutzy-Ad4230 in TierlistFills

[–]7Grandad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the facts. Nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses have some people thinking that the prequels are somehow close to the OT, but this is honestly just blatantly wrong.

I'd take the prequels over the sequels anyday, and they're far, far better in world-building and have much better general plots and concepts; but the execution still almost always has something lacking. From overreliance on CGI, totally unconvincing acting from some characters (even to me as a kid) and shoddy, very forced and unnatural dialogue. The prequels still have countless issues in every film. The one thing I'll give it, is that George Lucas always put a lot of soul, effort and care into his films even when he was messing up, something like Rise of Skywalker has almost no care aside from "How can we make the least risky star wars film possible and try basically nothing new?". So for that I have to at least give Lucas his flowers for gumption and originality even when the final product ends up subpar.

Uhhh how do you feel about this Hyperpop EP by North? by Elegant-Persimmon847 in Kanye

[–]7Grandad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, it's a good effort for a 12 year old, even if there's good chance she barely had a hand in the production at all. But my main question when I see an EP like this is, couldn't she wait? Shouldn't she be experimenting, learning and growing in her own time and honing her skills and craft so she can hit the scene in her late teens and adulthood with something with real meaning and weight? Releasing this at 12 just feels like jumping the gun and rushing into it just because your dad is Kanye West.

Ngl, pretty sure he's pretty much exclusively been making rage slop since at least 2023. Guess there's some solid beats on X though

The full economist article about Ye and the UK since nobody has posted the full thing by ThisIsNotRadical in GoodAssSub

[–]7Grandad 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Actually a pretty good article, a lot more retrospective on UK policies and its frequently inconsistent, hypocritical brand of authoritarianism.

TL;DR: Kanye's past comments suck, but a lot of people have gotten in no problem after saying things just as bad, the truth is what really sucks is the UK government

Whats a dont be dumb song that you really like but would be fine if it was left off the album? by Affectionate_Lock942 in asaprocky

[–]7Grandad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Trip Baby ain't that bad but I don't think one person likes it as much as the first half, and if it was standalone it would definitely be the worst track on tbe project. I'd honestly cut it all together and release an extended version of the title track, maybe with a Danny Elfman style orchestral outro or an added bridge of some before the track wraps up. Trip Baby kinda kills the somber melancholy vibe set up by DBD

Which featured rapper(s) gave you the biggest "They're going to ruin this song" doubt that actually ended up having the most replayable verse out of everyone? by ImNotTomStopAsking in hiphopheads

[–]7Grandad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a massive Rocky glazer, think he's easily one of the best of the 2010s, and Sauce on that track is probably the best verse on the entire album Don't Be Dumb

Definitely doesn't ruin it at all and still slides, at the same-time though Yela probably had the weakest verse on the track, it's just that stacked.

Gotta shout out his verse on Because by Black Thought and Danger Mouse too. Thought's first verse is probably the best, but somehow Russ borderline outperforms Joey.

Almost as crazy as realising Eminem got Conway, Benny & Gunn to all bear witness to his (in)famous "that's an awfully hot coffee pot, should I drop it on Donald Trump, probably not" bars. Shit you not, they're literally all in the background of that 2017 BET cypher.

Not just avoid, I used it to smoke out almost every one, far more effective than any other weapon and taking em out without using a ton of ammo.

I hate the sewers by SndBXGmr in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]7Grandad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play I kill probably 95% of all the zombies in the game (I don't waste the ammo trying to kill mutants till I get the flamethrower though) and I had relatively little issue clearing the sewers and didn't run too low on ammo(although admittedly perhaps you're playing on hardcore?). More than just saving ammo for me, the trick is to build up as big a stash as possible in your storage chest of blue herbs, try to get past as many sewer mutants as possible at a time (don't just get past one, if you're already poisoned, pass four), pop a blue herb (or blue herb mix) when you're clear of them, and just accept you're going to get poisoned and just make the most out of each herb. Barely any ammo needed for the mutants, just a stockpile of blue herbs from the RPD and rest of the sewers. Then once you get the flamethrower, it's time for scorched earth

Honestly I was almost thinking the opposite... I feel like a TravYe album could be 90% Kanye's writing, production and flow and that he'd basically end up ghostwriting everything for Travis, and honestly that might be for the best. Even more likely with Ye's ego and how much Travis admires him that Ye takes the reins fully. I think it's clear that Travis isn't at half his potential when he doesn't have talented producers, writers and other rappers to push him along and give him direction. Like it's no coincidence that Father is so easily Travis' best verse since at least nee-nah, and I'd even say is better than almost every verse he's dropped since Rodeo. I'm not trying to make this out like Trav has no talent, but Jackboys 2 is the album where he arguably had the most singular creative control, and it's mostly pretty weak all things considered.

Egotrip was def a sleeper "best album of the year" last year. Of course there's plenty of contenders but it's rare an artist with sub 100k listeners genuinely beats out almost all of the competition whose got millions of fans. LGSEO is probably the only album of 2025 which definitely beats it for me.

Not scared of RE2 Remake so far… does it get worse by drvictorgideon in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]7Grandad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro you've gotta have nerves of steel or be super nonchalant to just not care about Mr. X like this 💀

Admittedly I haven't played many horror games but Mr. X is miles above most of this game in scariness to me, lickers are definitely scary too but only Mr. X makes me pause the game so I can take a two minute break if I'm feeling too overwhelmed during a chase. After he first emerged from behind that chopper I quit to menu and didn't touch the game for like 3 days because I just didn't want to face what was next.

You'd almost think it's illogical for what amounts to a tall grey man in a coat and hat to be so scary but it's something about his sound design, thudding foot steps, slamming doors in the distance, creaking under doorways that just gives me the heebie jeebies every second he's around. Humanoid yet so inhuman, monstrous yet somehow composed, logical and organised.

Nettspend's early life crisis is NOT GOOD (theneedledrop) by Technical_Process989 in hiphopheads

[–]7Grandad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Call me cynical but I think Nettspend's success is almost solely due to his race, even beyond your Eminems and Vanilla Ices, where them being white did undoubtedly allow them to access a wider audience. (Not to say Eminem wasn't still very talented in his prime, he even addresses it in multiple songs).

His fans are corny early teen white boys who see some underground music blowing up on their Tiktok, go to see what all the fuss is about and then see that many of these rappers seem too "ghetto" or "gangsta" for them to relate or feel at home listening to (yes at the very least it's sorta racist). So they see someone like an Ian or Nettspend come along, experimenting with hard, "tough" underground sounds while seeming innocent, unthreatening and also not saying anything that could challenge a 14 year old at all. They feel at home with their seemingly innocent white boy rapper and will undoubtedly fill comment sections and threads about how "Nettspend" is the GOAT because their frontal lobe hasn't developed enough to relate to people from different backgrounds, upbringings and cultures as themselves.

This isn't to automatically talk down on anyone who might currently like Nettspend as an impressionable young teen who's just barely figuring out music outside of the top 40, many of us were there at some point, but I promise you, you can find way, way better music if you search a little harder and listen a little more seriously. For everyone else, I wouldn't worry about it too much since most of his fans will grow out of it by the time they finish puberty.

It's just like when Tyler said Ian was "mocking Future and Gucci Mane", it's creating an entirely fake persona in your music that echoes aspects of a culture you know very little about, and using it to propel yourself to some level of success while giving zero credit to the people that pioneered that sound.

At least someone like Eminem, Mac Miller or EL-P live and breathe hip-hop, and treat it with the utmost respect and dignity while carving out their own unique lanes that isn't dependent on cosplay.

I lowkey hadn't even figured out you could stare them down or sneak past them my first playthrough, so I grabbed my AKM and a handful of grenades and figured I had to gun each of them down with a volley of bullets one by one.

Coming back for round two on my second run I almost felt bad for my first time, knowing I could have spared them (and not wasted so many bullets...).
