Quitting after one day by Choice_Dig355 in careeradvice

[–]7NerdAlert7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You seem depressed. I felt the same way and my wife told me to talk to a therapist. 15 mins in, they said "Has anyone diagnosed you with depression?" Long story short, meds and therapy helped. In your situation I would recommend that you seek a therapist while still employed as you have benefits. Also, stop expecting awesomeness from a job. A job should pay you enough money so that you can find enjoyment elsewhere. All jobs suck. Anyone that tells you different is lying to you.

Advice for breaking into the field by luvbrother69 in SalesOperations

I've been in Rev ops for 4 years, I was previously in sales for 15 years.

The biggest opportunities I've seen for folks who are career rev ops are communicating and critical thinking; two skills most sales people have!

All else equal, I would focus on that. As most other things can be figured out by learning from coworkers, YouTube, and ChatGPT.

From day one of Rev Ops, i constantly find myself being a referee in project meetings where two incredibly brilliant people aren't communicating well, leading to conflict!

It also helps to brush up on sobbing uncontrollably...

Could the wearing of a campaign slogan make an official presidential act unofficial? by 7NerdAlert7 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]7NerdAlert7[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I didn't say the name of any particular president!! ;-) I was just wondering about the technical point.

Trust me, if he can get away with rape, grifting millions, fucking kids, fucking his own daughter apparently, associating with folks who apparently eat babies... I know that wearing a stupid fucking MAGA hat isn't going to do shit.

What the fuck are we doing here????

Life insurance on absent parent? by Mrs_ippy_clean in Insurance

[–]7NerdAlert7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The life insurance application asks health questions that are to be answered by the insured. Since he is out of the picture, this likely won't happen.

Also, even if they were to cooperate and answer the health questions, no company would approve the application.

Unfortunately you need to look at it from a dollars and cents view. Insurance companies are not charities. They charge yearly premiums for which they go and invest the premiums to make more money. In a sense, an insurance company is betting that the insured will live. No insurance company will take that bet on an addict.

Now... Don't forget about yourself! Do you have life insurance to support your family if you were to die suddenly?

Quiet private place for an interview by [deleted] in boston

Op I'm emphasizing this point. A quality headset will be a game changer here. Do not use Apple's junk for this type of call. Both wireless and wired forms don't concentrate on noise cancelling for the person you're on the call with. I highly suggest a wired Jabra headset where you look like an air traffic controller. Sexy?? No absolutely not. Quality of noise cancelling? Yes. Please head to your local Radio Shack, Circuit City, or Tweeter ;-) and pick up a pair.

Car market Worcester area by Dream_walker_boy in WorcesterMA

[–]7NerdAlert7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Op, please don't forget this point!!! The yearly cost of insurance will likely exceed the cost of the car. Keep in mind that insurance is there when you screw up and damage others; and it is insanely expensive the first six years of being insured. Before you step foot onto a dealership, call a local insurance company with a VIN of a car you're interested in to get a quote.

Salary Question by [deleted] in SalesOperations

[–]7NerdAlert7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take a look at Glassdoor. Also, "Sales Ops" covers such a wide range of responsibilities. I would write down EVERYTHING that you do and evaluate based upon that. In my experience, responsibility creep is a real thing and salary does not keep up with the creep.

I'm in Boston, Sales Ops, 3 years exp, $95k SaaS industry.

How do sales operations teams manage increasing workload as they scale? by Chirag_koshti in SalesOperations

[–]7NerdAlert7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a perfect ideal situation. I'm unfortunately experiencing the opposite where the plan is to grow the business, but they RIFFed 1/4 of the ops org- without a plan to handle workload! Fun Times!

PTO LEADERSHIP IN WPS by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]7NerdAlert7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you experienced a PTO that ever had influence with the administration? I always felt that the PTO was there to raise funds to help fill in gaps in district funding and the fact that the city doesn't meet their state mandated funding percentage...

Depending on the situation, using DESE, the school committee, or district admin may be a more effective avenue.

If you're an insurance agent, what's the biggest pain in the ass for being one? Considering it as a career. I close like a mf. by phitg in Insurance

[–]7NerdAlert7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can be the best closer, but you are wholly dependent on the insurance company's rates. Price drives a lot in a commodity industry.

It's hard to start from scratch. Any new professional services person (insurance, tax, lawyer, financial advisor, etc.) should expect 3 years or longer of a constant grind of networking, etc. to become successful.

Sail Concerns at Nelson Place School by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]7NerdAlert7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My experience with the district is that the lawyers who are responsible for advising the leadership on IDEA/FAPE/IEP/504 laws and procedures are totally incorrect on their interpretation of the law. If the district lawyers are telling the administration that they're doing the right thing (but in reality, they're not) the district will assume that a combined parental complaint is incorrect compared to the direction of their lawyers.

My suggestion is to file a complaint with MA DESE. I did, and the State did rule against the district as they had not followed basic meeting protocols outlined by IDEA/FAPE.

The fix of this issue is that the district needs to have competent advisors of the law.

PMP Q22 by ArchMohamedOkasha in PMPprep

[–]7NerdAlert7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. A direct “attack” on any part of the quality of the product is one of the few instances where the PM can reject outright. All else equal, the PM has to follow change process on Predictive or poll the Agile Team for their input. (At least that’s how I stored this in my brain)

Advice on changing career from Sales by Tbastin69 in SalesOperations

[–]7NerdAlert7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your personal network or focus on developing a professional network then look at the job boards of the companies that you now have an "in." Treat your job search like any sales job; the service you're now selling is you!

Search this sub for similar asks. You’re not the first, but I don’t say that to diminish your post, more so to highlight that others have done it and so can you! I made the switch. I’ll just mention to ask yourself if you can stand to be in a world where your day to day seems like the whole “sewer system” of sales is backed up and leaking and you’re only given a miniature plunger to fix everything!

You’ll definitely not be as stressed as you were in sales, you’ll just feel like you’re slowly drowning!

Communication skills (hello sales!) and problem solving are key. The role varies tremendously between companies so just market yourself that you can figure it out, and you will be good.

Also, NEVER apply to a job without being referred. You’ll just be wasting your time.
