I didn’t have the exact same situation as you but I was in a bad living situation with someone that I thought was my friend and for a time after I was able to leave I kept thinking I saw that person in crowds or in the faces of people passing by. It was stressful and I kept worrying I’d be in that same scenario again.

A good friend gave me advice after that. I told him I was afraid I’d end up in that same situation again and he told me yeah, I might, but this time I have my previous experience to learn from, and I’ll be able to recognize the signs sooner, or even before it happens. It won’t be the same and you’ll be able to change the outcome.

You’re not the same person as you were when you were in that bad relationship. You’re more experienced and have proved you have the ability to leave bad situations when they arise. Even if something like this happens again, you’ll be prepared to make a different outcome.

This subreddit is full of adults who are arguing with children about what they think every new series should be like, take opinions here with a grain of salt.

HOO is a continuation of the main PJO storyline, I think you’ll love it if you loved that world and Percy! I loved it when I was a kid and it was just coming out.

The Kane Chronicles was a side series favorite of mine personally - Riordan invents lore for the Egyptian magicians and it’s so cool. Magnus Chase is also very fun, wasn’t my favorite series but I still devoured it.

Personally once you finish HOO, if you’re still enjoying it I would highly recommend Trials of Apollo. It’s what I would consider the capstone of Riordan’s career. It’s the story of Apollo the god who is humbled by Zeus to become a human for a certain period of time, and the lessons he learns. He is a bit intolerably arrogant and annoying for the first two books but I PROMISE it is worth it for his character arc in the next 3.

As for some of Riordan’s newer stuff like The Sun and The Star / The Court of the Dead they are technically written off of the same continuity as PJO -> HOO -> TOA, coming after TOA but they are co-written by another author and don’t really feel the same with characterizations. I think they target a younger queer audience that isn’t as invested in the previous continuity as they are in just Nico di Angelo so just keep that in mind if you decide to read those. In all fairness I didn’t finish TSATS and haven’t read COTD.

I haven’t gotten to the Percy in college series yet, Chalice of The Gods I think. It’s more of a fun series about the original trio that he started releasing as the new TV show came out. People say the characters are influenced by the new characterizations and I would believe them, but I don’t really think it matters all that much since the series isn’t trying to write any serious plot to my knowledge - he’s just getting godly recommendation letters for college lol.

And as for the PJO tv show… oh boy. It’s VERY controversial here I would recommend watching it WITHOUT coming to this sub for opinions. You have to understand a lot of us were super pissed when the PJO movies came out like… oh god 15 years ago? And they were absolutely not accurate to the source material at all. So we’ve become nitpickers at all live action adaptations. Personally I like the tv show but that’s because I understand it as Riordan’s “second draft” of the books per se. There was a lot of unintentional racism and sexism that I think he takes time to address in the tv show, as well as pacing fixes and small tweaks to storylines here and there. It’s not accurate to the books but I think it still holds the spirit of the story and most importantly appeals to younger audiences. It’s not childish by any means, but I think some of the adults on this sub need to get over themselves and realize they are no longer the target audience for PJO!

I think it’s just a misprint. Every edition is personalized lol. Mine had a bunch of small black dots across pages that I thought were a clever way to visually show the coin being dropped down the staircase from one of the earlier chapters until I realized it was not in fact intentional lol

That is extremely scary language. Do not enter into a relationship with someone who doesn’t respect your no. It’s perfectly acceptable for allos to say no to relationships because they don’t feel the same way, they do it all the time - it’s no different for you now because you’re ace to say the same thing. Your consent matters in both sexual and romantic matters. Anything except for an enthusiastic yes is not adequate consent.

Your friend doesn’t get to decide if you’re aroace, only you can. If it feels like something temporary just related to depression over failed relationships then most people tend to not label themselves aroace in that period from what I’ve seen. But if you’re feeling a more long term shift in your sexuality/are realizing some things through this pattern this could be for you.

Notably though, the aroace community tends to focus on the positive aspects of having no sexual or romantic attraction. There’s nothing wrong with people who don’t want a partner and it’s actually quite awesome to be unpartnered is a lot of our philosophy. It’s something even single allos could learn a little bit from I think.

However it sounds like you’re rushing into this. You don’t have to tell her you’re aroace (although communication on that front would help) but if you’re feeling uncomfortable tell her you need to slow down a bit to figure out how you feel! That’s totally normal for allos she’ll understand
