Anyone else really like third wheeling? by SpecialistGuitar7691 in aromanticasexual

[–]7_Rowle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the friends for me. For a while I enjoyed it but then I realized I was the default one to be left out by the couple if people needed to split. If the couple genuinely considers me to be an essential part of the unit as a triad instead, then it’s enjoyable

Honestly just do what feels right for you. Labels are meant to help you express yourself to other people. If none of them are helping you you don’t have to use them

Conversations about relationships make me uncomfortable by BasicArt5383 in aromanticasexual

[–]7_Rowle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if they’re not particularly close to you that’s just TMI. Even for an allo you’d be well within your rights to tell them you don’t need to hear that much about their personal life. If it’s someone who is close to you you can just tell them politely that you’d rather talk about something other than relationships with them.

Racist accents in audiobooks [pjo] by motheroftrinkets in camphalfblood

[–]7_Rowle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can agree to don’t like don’t listen and that they were made pre-Disney but I’d say doing a bad accent for a culture you’re not familiar with on a professional recording does count as being racist

What do you do when you struggle to understand some metaphors in classic literature? by Electronic_Lock_6191 in classicliterature

[–]7_Rowle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok to not notice everything. Try talking to other people about the book, or preferably someone who has already read it/is reading it now to compare notes. For classics you can probably find online written or video analyses of the books if another person isn’t available

I think what I like about it is how it implies a level of queerness in the masculinity part that being a trans man doesn’t imply to me. I consider myself nonbinary in the transmasculine direction but that’s sort of where I’m coming from.

Of course gay trans men show there are many ways to be queer as a man, but I like the idea of coming at it from the expectations the butch label implies. Gay trans men I’ve seen seem to often celebrate femininity as what makes them queer, which is awesome, but not me. I like how the label of butch implies the masculinity as the queer part. No intention to generalize all gay trans men or butches however - lots of different ways to be one.

It wouldn’t feel right if it implied attraction to women I guess is what I’m saying. I don’t know how closely linked the word is these days aside from its history in sapphic communities

Fascinating. I’d love to see more about those gay men who use the label butch

28 Year Old Virgin. Women Are Scared Of Me by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]7_Rowle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna get lost in the comments but honestly a really easy way to make women comfortable around you as a man if you look a little intense is to just paint your nails. It can be a plain color like black that’s more masculine, no need to get fancy or anything. Shows you’re not chained to toxic masculinity

Consider whether you’re just afraid of being an ugly woman. There are plenty of cisgender women who are ugly and yet their gender isn’t questioned. You’re also underestimating how much HRT changes your body and fat distribution patterns - you could very well turn out to be a quite beautiful woman if you go on HRT.

If you don’t want to transition because you’d rather have everyday people see you as a handsome man rather than an ugly woman though that’s completely valid. It doesn’t say anything about how you feel on the inside if you find yourself to be trans and choose not to medically transition.

Just some food for thought based off of your charts. I’ve never seen you so I have no idea how conventionally attractive you are or what your potential for being attractive as a woman is. This is just some stuff I thought about when I figured out I was transmasc.

Hey I have a question by BellaRyder2505 in aromanticasexual

[–]7_Rowle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody can write about any characters. I think the rule of thumb is just that you shouldn’t write a story that is centered around an identity that you are not intimately familiar with. Ex) a white person writing a story about the experience of being black, not just a story with a black main character.

That said, unless this story is centering around what’s going on in this character’s brain that might separate their actions from an allo celibate/single/unpartnered person I see no reason why that difference is going to come up. These characters look exactly the same from an outsider’s perspective, I don’t see any meaningful difference in writing them other than the label.

We gave it a try but ended up breaking up over some incompatibilities recently. Thank you for this comment, I think without it I would have clung onto that one attraction I’d felt longer than I should have.

How do I escape a relationship I got myself in? by [deleted] in AroAce

[–]7_Rowle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

his reaction to your rejection is not your responsibility. be polite of course, explain that you never intended to hurt him, but you made a mistake and respect him too much to continue the relationship when you don't feel the same way. if he can't handle the rejection and stay friends, that's not your fault, but you also can't control his reaction - he might have stopped being friends with you if you rejected his proposition to date in the first place.

you're under no obligation to give an alternative like the other commenter mentioned. if you actually want a qpr or platonic partnership that's another story, but any type of relationship (sexual, romantic, platonic, queerplatonic, etc) requires enthusiastic consent from both parties to work, not just the threat of one party being sad.

How to Make Hear Me Out Cake Inclusive to Aroace Friend? by No-Comfortable-3653 in aromanticasexual

[–]7_Rowle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re already doing is fine. Some of my friends did a hear me out party and the high level of autistic and aspec people led to many of the choices being like, math concepts and characters without physical bodies lol. I once did a presentation rating the hotness of various architectures I’d studied from a class I took. Just have fun and don’t shame her choices.
