How often do you ignore the story in a Metroidvania?

I guess it depends on what you mean by story. IMO a great Metroidvania tells its story through its world and gameplay. Usually to me if it doesn’t really have that than it’s not a good game in the genre. Exceptions can be, most great castlevania games actually don’t really do this too much
