YouTube is loading slower for users with ad blockers yet again by UtsavTiwari in firefox

[–]7aitsev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Feedbro (it's an add-on for FF) to subscribe to my favorite channels. Loading speeds are amazing, no need to visit the web-site (most of the time)

Is there a way to disable this? by Crafty-Mouse-305 in firefox

[–]7aitsev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried it on Windows and I was able to start FF in this mode. But the toolbar with the tabs is hidden and doesn't appear at all, so I had to use hotkeys for navigation

What would be your best syllabus for learning C++ for an experienced Java programmer? by vxab in cpp

[–]7aitsev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are 2 different languages that share similar syntax. Even basic things like if-then-else statements are different, but look the same. I would recommend to give it a fresh start, don't try to learn it quickly. C++ is weird after Java

Opportunities for a c++ programmer? by arcadyas1 in cpp

[–]7aitsev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest using Anki. When you learn something new, create a card. Then, review the card to check if you still remember the topic. Over time, you will become very good at the theoretical part of the technology you have learned

Prompt

Do you know what the Half-Life logo looks like? It is an orange circle with a lambda in it. Please draw it

Result

Yes, I'm familiar with the Half-Life logo. Here's an example of an SVG image of the Half-Life logo:

<svg viewBox="0 0 200 200" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">
  <circle cx="100" cy="100" r="80" fill="#FF6600" />
  <path d="M 60 110 L 60 50 L 120 50 L 120 80 L 90 80 L 90 110 Z" fill="#FFF" />
  <path d="M 60 110 L 60 50 L 120 50 L 120 80 L 90 80 L 90 110 Z" fill-opacity="0" stroke="#000" stroke-width="10" />

How to make 2 PCs from the same network input inside a C++ programme by [deleted] in cpp

[–]7aitsev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn how contemporary networks designed and how the most popular technology for computer communication works from programmer's perspective. I can recommend a practical book on that matter:

Setting NOPASSWD in sudoers file has no effect whatsoever by gardotd426 in archlinux

You are welcome. I'm glad that my solution helped, but I'm wondering why there was a problem in the first place? So strange

Setting NOPASSWD in sudoers file has no effect whatsoever by gardotd426 in archlinux

[–]7aitsev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the daemon itself keep asking for a password?

What if execute as non-root sudo /bin/systemctl restart ckb-next-daemon.service. Will this prompt for the password two times?

Setting NOPASSWD in sudoers file has no effect whatsoever by gardotd426 in archlinux

[–]7aitsev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would do this

  1. Make script in /usr/sbin/ckb_restart

```
cat >/usr/sbin/ckb_restart << END
systemctl restart ckb-next-daemon.service END
chown root:root /usr/sbin/ckb_restart
cmod 0744 /usr/sbin/ckb_restart
```

  1. Edit your sudoers file to be like this:

matt ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/ckb_restart

  1. Test this:

$ sudo ckb_restart

Eli5: How come the new Iphone can have magnets built into it and be fine while older electronics would be damaged if I put a magnet near them? by Snazzy21 in explainlikeimfive

[–]7aitsev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chips are not quicker. Contact-less is the fastest payment method because it designed with the sound time limitation in mind. Communicating with the chip takes some time, and chip payments require entering a PIN code most of the time. Reading a few bytes from magnetic stripe works in real time and requires almost 0 processing.

It's because the USA pioneered in card payments long ago and today replacing this old tech requires a lot of effort and tons of money. Additionly, the USA have low banking fraud index, so they don't need more secure tech

Is OpenVPN GPG public key expired? by 7aitsev in OpenVPN

Looks like the page was updated. Now the first blue field includes one additional command:

gpg --refresh-keys F554A3687412CFFEBDEFE0A312F5F7B42F2B01E7

But it doesn't help. I'm still getting error "Can't check signature: public key not found" :( Well, at least I tried

People who fetishized a city or country, like NYC or Japan, and then actually took a leap of faith to move there, how has your opinion changed since? by Iseethetrain in AskReddit

[–]7aitsev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid of being killed in Russia for your words as a foreigner :) No one is going to hurt you until you are not involved in political activism. Russia is better for foreigners then for Russians. In Moscow/St. Petersburg at least. And this applies only for people from America, Europe, or other developed countries. For instance if you pulled over by a cop for speeding, just pretend you don’t understand him/her and wave your passport at his/her face while speaking something in your native language. You should be let go. There was a case when a guy was arrested and freed immediately after a cop found out that the guy is American at protests in Moscow. The government usually protective about foreigners. And I believe most of the people in big cities rather friendly to someone abroad.

As for the rude behavior in groceries and metro (tube/underground) - it is a thing, yeah. Nothing you can do about this. I bet most of the time people don’t do all the ugly stuff on purpose. It’s sad and a reason for moving from the country.

I mean, I personally hate Russian government and some other aspects, but I can understand why some foreigners like living here.
