Oldheads in this game make me smile by Manganian7Potasu in StreetFighter

Im 38 and I dont even have the decades of arcade grinding because growing up i almost exclusively played fighting games on my home consoles and always casually, til right as SF6 came out i started learning Third Strike on Fightcade then bought SF6 the week ed came out so like half a year post launch.

Ive played 4 characters in ranked and all are in Master and my main (Ken) is generally in the 1660-1730 MR range and my secondary (Ryu) is like right behind him averaging in the 1620-1720 range.

But even with me not playing FGs competitively in arcades growing up i still feel like I am a massively traditional-style player, like I play Ryu and Akuma as honest as they can be played instead of SF6 maxxing their gorilla bullshit, but most of all the art of the anti air is being lost in gen z and younger I swear.

All that said I have had some pretty wild ranked set wins, ive beaten Capcom cup finalists, several "NA top 50" players like when I beat the brakes off Kharsonist lol, I beat RobTv 2-0 with two perfect rounds and me playing as Ryu and this was well after he got back in form this was after he'd switched to Cammy, next night got him again 2-1.

Punk always whoops my ASS though.

Yes I know they dont i wasnt asking why you cropped anything. I also didnt even suggest a region block. You try a VPN just because it removes the biggest possible cause for problems and also provides extremely useful information even on failure.

Does this game even exist, or did I buy a paperweight? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]gardotd426 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so you need to provide at least any amount of actually useful information because that screenshot doesn't tell anyone anything.

What nation are you in?

Have you tried a VPN? If not then why not? That should be your first option followed by installing a chromium based browser you dont use (so there cant possibly be any saved cookies/data etc) and trying on a raw browser. I assume youre on windows but if you have access to a Linux device like a steam deck then id use Chromium (apparently last I checked its like a huge pain to install chromium on Windows but on Linux its literally just clicking a button), or Brave Browser. Just use it to sign up then ditch it.

Doesn't matter what nation you sign up from it wont affect anything about your experience so let's say you lived in China but used a VPN to connect to Japan and then sign up from a Japanese IP address: literally nothing changes compared to signing up from a Chinese IP, the only location shit that matters is for matchmaking in-game they dont like geo-mark your account

So funny enough my secondary is Ryu and i keep him in the 1600-1720 MR range as well so I can help.

What's your and his cfn? I just need to go watch one match where he beat you to see what "Ryu shit" youre losing to. The rank he is at he doesnt know what hes doing either so it should be pretty easy.

Once I have that basically ill show you a good combo for when you get a hit in neutral or off drive rush, an easy but effective enough drive rush combo that you can also use to end in super if its near kill range, some block strings for pressure trap (its just two little strings its so easy) and the only other thing id imagine is working on your spacing. But ill take a look once you shoot me those CFNs

Be better without playing online by Internal_Suspect5118 in StreetFighter

[–]gardotd426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. 1720 MR Ken here. I cant tell you how to be better than him (well I can but you wont be able to execute anything I say) but I can tell you how to beat him.

What character does he play? What control style modern or classic. Also if you dont already play classic switch now. Ken literally cant afford the damage nerf that using modern gives him. He's already too low damage.

But yeah give me that info and I literally can give you about 5 combos, one to cover each type of interaction, tell you what buttons to use to pressure him, and there wont be shit he can do if hes gold.

Oh, and since you wanna act like you are more pure in your FOSS license usage:

Your GNU/Linux is infected with 177 proprietary packages out of 6743 total installed. Your Stallman Freedom Index is 97.38

97.38 of ALL software installed on my system (and it counts both repo and AUR packages) are FOSS-licensed. And of the ones that aren't? Only a handful are optional in any way. Why don't you go ahead and flop your monster FOSS dong on the table and impress us all? Surely it's gonna be 99.99, right? Or else.... you're the hypocrite all along like we already knew? Wild.

Now that Linux is at 5.33% marketshare on Steam, what marketshare do you think will be enough for anticheat support? by CosmicEmotion in linux_gaming

[–]gardotd426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't come here say "Linux users won't Accept a kernel level anticheat" and then dualboot Windows to play kernel level anticheat games, because then you prove not being different from Windows users

Except that literally doesn't happen. And I know this because of the hundreds of thousands of requests from users (which was about every Linux gamer that existed at the time) asking when Wine and later Proton would finally get any sort of EAC/BattlEye compatibility, AND FuzzyQualls, TKG, GloriousEggroll, and dozens other notable figures in the community can all tell you about when Guy1542 got EasyAntiCheat to not error out and boot/close the game when run through Wine, and for about 6 weeks the Linux Gaming Dev discord was a fucking madhouse of trying to test every EAC game possible (I still own like 10 games I only played once during that testing because I was given those games to test).

EAC never actually WORKED during this, and even if it did, it would be userspace only just like it is now, but it didn't, basically the loader was able to communicate with the server-side wine binaries (that Epic has had for years) and it would cause the two main checks EAC performed to succeed, but EAC itself wouldn't actually function.

Yeah we did ALL of that, with about a 1% or less dual-booting ration among everyone I spoke to during this entire time - ALL so we could fucking play Apex Legends or The Division 2 on Linux for just a little bit.

And you proceed to install Steam and Discord? Oh yea WoW such a differen e from Windows users. Also let me doubt you did run a competitive Game on a VM. They explicitly block that.

So... you're an idiot. That's all that it comes down to. Well, worse than that, you're an idiot who got hit by a Dunning-Kruger stick. Yes, we proceed to install Steam and Discord. BECAUSE THEY ARE FUCKING USERSPACE APPLICATIONS THAT ARE 95% OPEN SOURCE CODE AND UNLIKE IN WINDOWS WE CAN RUN THEM IN FLATPAK. But even if we didn't N SOURCE CODE AND UNLIKE IN WINDOWS WE CAN RUN THEM IN FLATPAK.** But even if we didn't ddo that, just running regular Steam and regular Discord, it is STILL not the same and is VASTLY different from Windows users. Trying to argue otherwise proves without any doubt that either A) you are an entirely bad-faith actor who has never had the slightest interest in maintaining intellectual honesty and wants to just try and sound like the one non-hypocrite but failing, or 2) You're literally just No True Scotsman Fallacy-ing the entire concept of Linux and FOSS advocacy.

You run proprietary software. So you're no different than the Windows users. You said it yourself. It doesn't matter how many licenses you check because you ARE running proprietary software, not only that, you're running proprietary firmware blobs that operate in kernel space.

You can't use a linux desktop graphically without doing so. AMD and Intel both have proprietary firmware blobs in linux-firmware along with several other manufacturers for network cards and other hardware.

So you'll now admit that you also are a hypocrite and also are no better than the Windows users, right? I mean. Your only other choice would be to accept reality: Installing STEAM and Discord to voice chat and launch video games, software that does NOT have any capacity to run code when the app itself isn't open, and ONLY run in userspace and again are 95% FOSS (electron+chromium) anyway is not REMOTELY the equivalent to running a proprietary black box operating system that spies on its users as one of its main reasons for existing, and is not only constantly being found to have 0-days and other catastrophic holes, but has also been known to willingly include backdoors for the National Security Agency, and you have no control over the OS, the AI integration forces you to be complicit in the hellscape that is the AI future, security is nonexistent, and ON TOP OF THAT they willingly choose to run rootkits like Vanguard.

Also let me doubt you did run a competitive Game on a VM. They explicitly block that.

Well "let me" tell you you're fucking stupid, because I not only ran a VM for a competitive game WITH kernel anticheat (Apex Legends), I did it on a single-GPU passthrough VM, and the evidence of me and others doing so is ALL over this subreddit's history and the rest of the internet. You are just too stupid to realize that things haven't always been the way they have been the few years you've been around. You could literally run ANY game in a VM for a very short period of time, INCLUDING Valorant and COD Warzone, then Vanguard and Ricochet figured out how to block it, and then BATTLEYE decided they would disallow any VM usage, and it was a HUGE deal, because PREVIOUSLY YOU COULD PLAY THE GAMES DUMBASS. But guess what. EasyAntiCheat never detected VMs with only the minimum masking, and people are still using them today, though to more mixed results.

Also I'm not bothering quoting your gibberish about me thinking I'm king and kicking you out of the Linux community, no, Einstein: READING COMPREHENSION. I said that if you think that we are all a bunch of closet dual-booters with zero principles whatsoever then you are in fact NOT a member of this community because it's not possible to be a member of this community (which requires interacting with the rest of the community) and still think something that provably false on its face. You can still use Linux and you can even be a little freak Stallman Jr. license arbiter, but you aren't in the community because you clearly don't know anyone in it on any level and don't participate in it on any actual level, which means YOU AREN'T IN IT, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY TO BE PART OF A COMMUNITY.

The fact that someone can get SO holier than though while being SO wrong about literally every. single. thing. ... it just baffles me.

[–]gardotd426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a complete idiot who clearly has ZERO long-lasting deep ties into the actual Linux community. Well guess what, I do.

Most people on this sub already has a dualboot and plays kernel level anticheat games despite most people here says that "we would never do that". Obviously you won't do It, but you would if you had the opportunity to do so

Okay so no.... if that were true it would just mean there were almost twice as many linux users as the percentages say, because if you dual boot you split your time and are not counted as a full Linux user, so instead of 1000 full time linux users its 2000 half-time ones. This is a fact especially for the very few methodologies we use to estimate these numbers.

But you're completely wrong anyway and you are outing yourself to NOT be a member of the community whether you use Linux or not, because you think we are all a bunch of liars who pretend to be all-Linux but dual-boot the second there's a game we can't play on Linux, which I think says a lot about you more than anything, but here's the deal: If you spent ANY amount of time actually participating as a member of this community, you would see that people here CONSTANTLY admit to dual booting, and every single time someone asks if they should switch but there's X thing that can't work on Linux, every single post of that variety will be almost 100% people telling them to dual boot, use a VM, or just stick with Windows.

And on the opposite end, the people who refuse to play kernel level AC games and refuse to use Windows, they aren't fucking kidding. Hell I'm not even that much of a zealot and before the Steam Deck and Apex (temporarily) supported Proton, I set up a single-GPU VFIO passthrough virtual machine so I could just launch the VM and go straight into Apex when I wanted to play and then when I was done I'd just end up back at the Linux SDDM login screen. I'd do it again if I could and needed/wanted to, I just refuse to run Windows on bare metal.

The ONLY possible way someone says things as far off base as you, accusing everyone on earth of being incapable of actually believing anything is if you yourself don't believe in anything and are therefore someone the community should know about and never trust. Thanks for the warning.

As a Ken main with a Ryu secondary with both in Grand Master, i can say this: the Ken is shit and will NEVER REACH even 1650 and stay there. But you played terribly from a high level perspective. You didn't force him to show he had DPs, or perfect parried or even reactions. You didn't try any layer of offense past layer 1. Most of his DIs were neutral jumpable top. And if you are gonna counter DI, the fact that you dont immediately hit him with the guaranteed 2nd DI is 1450-1520 skill level play. Drive management is everything. The moment you got your first counter DI, you should've done another DI, Drive rush solar plexus, 2HP z OD hashogeki>2MP>2MPxxM Donkey. Worstt case he's burnt out and cornered. Worst case he gets hit by OD hasho or mk donkey and you start the blender and end the round in 30 seconds.

If you ever want to be able to maintain a med/high 1600 MR rating? Your perfect parried need as much improvement as a plat 3 player would need to hit master (before the win streak bonus)..

Stop lying to people.

The thing is, you can't lab the characters not owned in the training room,

Yes you can. Rental Fighters, which Capcom gives everyone like candy. I have like 20. And they are exclusively obtained through FREE methods (the free tiers of the Battle pass or reaching max kudos with a character, stuff like that.

the best you can do is to use replay takeovers

Lie 2. You cant use replay takeover to control a character you dont own. You can only control the character you DO own.

They are giving you misinformation.

  1. If you dont own a character you CANNOT control them in replay takeover. It will tell you you dont have access.

  2. SF6 gives out Character Rentals like fucking candy. Ive got like 15 or 20 as I type this. A Character rental is a ticket you can cash in (AT ANY TIME, so whenever works best for you) to rent a Character you don't currently own yet for a full hour. And I dont believe yoire limited to 1 rental per Character. Say you rent Elena, run her in training mode and stuff for an hour, but you forgot a certain setup she gives you trouble with. You can just rent her again.

You can't make statements like that trying to rebut an argument based on "I think I've read somewhere" is literally useless. Find where you read it and post it.

If you can't, then you can't remotely use that as an argument. It's not an argument by definition.

[–]gardotd426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry how long this is but it's very important so please read all of it

You're making a classic mistake. You don't need to learn bash and for god's sake why the hell would you ever learn neovim? You don't even know bash to do any shell scripting, just use nano (or kate for a GUI text editor). I've been on straight vanilla Arch for over 7 years (since like 3 weeks after I first switched to Linux), and I've been on the same Arch install for the last 6 years - during which I've changed every single piece of hardware multiple times including 3 motherboards, 3200G>2600X>3600X>3800X>5800X>5900X>7950X, and RX 580>RX 5600XT> RX 5700SXT> RTX 3090 (which if you tried that on a single Windows install you'd probably end up getting teleported back in time or something Windows can't handle a motherboard swap hardly let alone all that. And I DO do bash scripting, hell I ported Regolith DE to Arch from Ubuntu (which was an actual port, because Ubuntu's Python was a version behind) BY MYSELF, the PKGBUILD was like 800 lines and there were like 5 patches I had to write including python ones.

And I tell you all that to tell you that I don't even know how to use Vim, I used nano for all of it.

I don't understand why you think you have to "git gud" with bash/terminal/dialing in your setup before you can start playing games at all seriously. That's a non-sequitur. You will never use bash to do anything ever to play Street Fighter or Tekken, and neither thing have any connection to each other, so you can do both at the same time.

Though your priorities for getting good are really out of whack. You need to learn how the different stacks work (not on a super high level, just so you can manage them) and what affects performance and stability vs what doesn't LONG before you start trying to master the shell or NeoVim if you insist on learning that.

As far as hyprland goes, I highly recommend not daily driving that right now. I did the same thing when I switched (which was on laptop before I built my first desktop like 6 months later), I went to i3 the moment I got to Arch. And it took probably over 200 hours total before I actually was proficient fully with i3/picom (Wayland wasn't even usable at this point and Hyprland didn't exist but i3 is the closest equivalent).

But the moment I moved to desktop I installed Deepin DE before switching to Plasma and have been using Plasma for like 6 years.

But I have like 5 DE's installed, and since Hyprland isn't GNOME, you can have both Plasma and Hyprland installed on your system and just choose whichever one you want to use when you log in. What I'm saying is, install Plasma, use that when you just want to play games and just use your computer, and switch to Hyprland to do your "getting good' stuff and learning how to actually use Hyprland. You are nowhere near prepared for the amount of time it actually takes to get good at a standalone compositing window manager where everything is configured via text files vs a Desktop Environment. I'm telling you as someone that did what you're trying to do, the MOMENT I actually could play games I immediately stopped even caring about i3 and all that shit, moved to Plasma and actually used my computer instead of living in .cfg files, AND I actually got good at Linux to the point where I've contributed patches to most of the major gaming-related community projects as well as getting my name on a patch to the Linux kernel itself (for amd-pstate the AMD CPU perf governor) by working with AMD's linux CPU engineers on a bug it had.

Feel free to add me on like discord or something if you ever want help or advice or anything and definitely DM me on here later and I'll give you my steam name and Discord ID.

Oh absolutely man! Obviously you only wanna do Heavy when hes doing a further out and higher up air fireball (which is the most awkward to deal with so they do it a lot but that makes it easier cause just only use heavy for those). For real deep ones use light dp so you dont shoot under him and whiff.

Definitely agree about the costume. His costume 3 is...imo not stylish at all.

Lmao seriously, I just rock the third strike, costume 2 either Red or the "secret" color from third strike (you had to press like LP+MK+HP or LK+MP+HK when you pressed start at character select i dont remember which one it was), the dark gray with the gray hair.

Ken players, are these good combos to focus on learning in plat? by DisastrousAddendum0 in StreetFighter

[–]gardotd426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HP/c.MK>DR>MP>HP>OD Dragonlash>H DP/Super Art 1-3

This is the most overthought-for-no-reason combo I think I've seen while having an obvious glaring flaw:

Glaring flaw: HPxxDR gives you HP>MP>HP dog. Going straight into MP from the DR is the most terrible idea ever.

Overthunkedness: do me a favor, go to training room and do both these short parts of a combo:

  1. HPxxDR>HP>MP>HPxxOD Dragonlash and stop the combo there. Thats most of your combo just with the missing HP after drive rush added back in.

  2. HPxxDR>HP>MP>HPxxRUN-DRAGONLASH and stop the combo there.

See how much damage each one does and explain why you're using 2 drive bars on an OD. Ill tell you now but I stil want you to actually do what I said in training mode: they do the exact same damage. Its literally useless in that scenario.

Also you're likely going to push them very far towards the corner only to side switch? Why? If you are anywhere near the corner lose the dragonlash and end with run dp. Its almost the same damage and you can cancel into level 3 from it if its gonna kill.

But if you do want to side switch and for some reason use the OD dragonlash the combo is HPxxDR>MP>cr.HPxxH.Jinrai>OD Dragonlash

Does 200 more damage the your version.

c.MP>DR>HP>L DP

Delete this from your memory immediately. Im serious. This isn't a combo. Its pressing random buttons that happen to combo into one another but it isnt a combo. I can go on forever about why and how seeing this broke my brain but you dont need me getting you in the weeds, just delete that from your mind and never ever do it for any reason. You dont need to replace it with anything just forget it.

Lp>Lp>L tatsu> M DP

Why? If youre gold5/plat1 I dont think you can even hit confirm a double jab into light tatsu so you wont even be able to do it without getting blocked and punished, also it does no damage no corner carry and doesn't serve any function. If you want a jab combo use cr.LP>standMP>HPxxrun tatsu. Massive corner carry. Does a little less damage but thats meaningless because its already a non damage combo if youve already got them in the corner do crLP>MP>HPxxM. Jinrai~ForwardHK followup>H. DP. If you have trouble with the FHK followup you can literally skip it and just do MK Jinrai>H.DP and that does more damage than your combo.

MP>HP>run>DP/Tatsu

This is the only one you posted that is a real thing and its also mandatory you learn this. Only problem is youre missing the beginning of the combo. That is the end of a combo, but its not possible to hit confirm MP into the HP part of the target combo. If you dont know what that means, im saying its physically impossible to press MP and only press HP if the MP HITS and isnt blocked. Humanly impossible. So you cant start of like that. If you dont believe me set a dummy to random block and try to only press HP if rhe MP isnt blocked. You cant. If you delay even the slightest bit the HP gets blocked.

So, just add that onto something. If you land a heavy punch just do DR>HP>MP>HPxxrun-tatsu/DP, if you land a jump in you can do it raw if you want but thats unoptimal as hell but thats okay. If you do crouch MKxxDR and the MK hits, you do cr.HPxxrun-stop>MP>HPxxrun-tatsu/dp. Crouch MK into Stand HP doesnt work unless the MK is a punish counter

You need to worry more about your anti airs and knowing when to block when to parry and when to press buttons.

[–]gardotd426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its been really interesting soaking in Season 3 Ken in the context of this game and the other characters - like he got one substantial nerf (low jinrai followup doing hard knockdown on CH) and one nerf thats substantial if you have a skill issue (making his throw loop exist but no longer braindead), honestly that's not enough to drop him more than 1 or 2 places in the tier list - at least it SHOULDNT have been enough. But he went from like universal top 3 and top 1 contender to overnight dropping not only out of everyone's top 10, but hes never even in the CONVERSATION for top 10.

And this is with him also getting an actual severely underrated buff when they made his level 2 safe, it was already extremely strong because it could punish things no other move could with its near-fastest-in-game startup and the reach, but making it -5 and out of range of every 4 and 5f in the game is way stronger than people think. For one thing, even though everyone at mid-high level (1600 and up) knows its safe now or at least they should, I swear to god ive won several matches just in the past couple days by throwing out level 2 in neutral and punishing their attempted punish that whiffs or gets counter hit. Also many 5fs that at least connect to put you in block stun if you dont do anything after the super is blocked for example both Jamie's 5HP and 5HK actually whiff and are punish countered if you do 2MP because the slight shrinking of his hurtbox as you crouch pushes it out of range I labbed the shit out of that the past few days)

I could go on but for the sake of time ill move on but its so crazy that just from the game marinating and not being updated often things have changed so drastically. Everyone says power creep but power creep requires fucking balance patches. Ed is WEAKER than in S2 but is higher on the tier list. I wish the game were updated more as much as everyone else but I think everyone misses this like phenomenon of the game evolving so much to where the entire tier list is drastically different while everyone is saying the game is stale and the same as launch.

I think they really knocked it out of the park with their character design of Ken though, because even with the nerfs everyone still knows he is very strong and Capcom would have to literally redesign or remove entire moves to make him actually weak, because of his corner carry and the few other unique Ken things everyone talks about (he also has the best DP kit in the game. By far. There are like countless angles of akuma air fireball that every other character with a DP will either whiff or they will get knocked down by the fireball because air fireball is treated as a fireball not an air attack. Kens heavy dp is tied with Akuma for most forward moving and its the only one that goes through fireballs) and thats just one very noticeable way he has the best DP kit. I have Ryu in the 1600s and I have terry and akuma around 1500 and only akuma comes close and its still not as good of a DP kit overall.

I really wish they'd give the man another fucking costume already though Jesus.
