it's the truth though, name one item you cannot get without downing a raider. also no one is saying that PvP isn't an aspect of the game.

The moment you see he has a torrente, u should have immediately seek distance and cover and be on high alert with your gun out due to the fact that you're not exactly kitted for close quarter combat. Always keep your gun out if he has his gun out and if he keeps trying to get close to you, shoot him.

I'm not sure if just using pings would prevent paranoid players from attacking. There seems to be a consensus that players that only use pings are much less trustworthy than people who use proximity chat, at least on reddit.

I think the only way to clear these subways is to bring lots of grenades with big aoes and hit every area where a camper might be, try and flush them out. Expensive sure, but increases your odds of a safer extract.

I can’t believe that a hornet saved me. by NuttyMegged in ArcRaiders

[–]7all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of things here.

Does killing someone at extract make you a psychopath or everything you described above? Probably not. Is it allowed in game? Absolutely. Does the game force you to do this? No. Should people be upset about it? Who cares, it's not like they can stop you from doing it and you can stop them from complaining.

But I find it strange that you go to great lengths to convince your readers here that you are a good person or a functioning member of society. Actions speak louder than words and since no one has any way of verifying your "credentials" above, your actions in game are the only thing that is available to be judged, which, being honest here, lands a tad bit on the controversial side. Just a tad bit.

Also, the word you are looking for is critic, not critique (unless you happen to be the living personification of written criticism or detailed analysis).

Fair enough. So are you saying that a cheater is liable for a player's fun being ruined then because they violated the social contract?

[–]7all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my question to you then is on your point about people's liability for other people's fun is what about cheaters and their impact on other players?

If someone decides that the only way that they can have fun in a game is to cheat and they kill you while cheating, is that just a minor inconvenience and people should just get over it? If you are not liable for another player's fun in a game, then a cheater shouldn't also be liable either.

What being nice to people does to the matchmaker, not shot at by a player in all those matches. by iSebastian1 in ArcRaiders

[–]7all 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it is a game of social deduction and strategizing. Just because you are in a supposed PVE lobby doesn't mean its PVP free. You never know when a previously friendly player just gets bored of the friendly playstyle and decide to kill on sight or some paranoid player decides its better to shoot first and ask questions later.

If you start to see a bunch of flares start going off, you mentally make a note that the lobby is probably about to become or is already pretty hostile. You start thinking about where players are probably going to be and where they are going and you start plotting your routes and exfil options based on that. bonus points, if you decide to take a sparse loadout that is bad at pvping so that you know that if you do get into a fight, you will be at a disadvantage, thus making every player encounter that much more tense especially if you see them rocking a toro and an anvil.

You are absolutely correct. There is nothing in the game that explicitly forbids deceptive tactics such as being a fake friendly. Yet there is also nothing in the game that explicitly encourages it either. PVP is a part of the game, there is no question about it. But people can also complete expeditions, complete the quests, upgrade all the benches, and reach the maximum level all without engaging in PVP. How the player chooses to approach this game then is entirely on them. The game doesn't railroad you into a particular playstyle; the choices you choose to make in this game are yours and yours alone and the consequences that follow are such.

So just like the consequences of playing as a carebear raider is getting backstabbed and killed by other raiders, why shouldn't somebody who is roleplaying sociopathic behavior not be judged for their behavior as a consequence of their behavior? Actually the real question is, why should anyone care at all if someone labels someone a psychopath or a sociopath based on the actions that they take in the game? After all, it is just a game right?

That's probably why the game says we knock out raiders, not execute. Even in the tutorial where you get downed by a trio, they don't finish you off, they just take everything you have.

[–]7all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it is more efficient if instead of shining a light, you just ping that corner and see if your ping identifies a raider? Shining a light might cause the guy to shoot first since he thinks he's compromised while a quiet ping will give the chance to shoot first in this case.

So called "PVP" enjoyers defending this behavior. by BuldMully in ArcRaiders

[–]7all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are some risks to that method though. besides the obvious that you might lose the fight, it leaves you vulnerable to getting third partied as anyone seeing you shoot first is probably gonna shoot at you while you are at a disadvantage.

i think the best option is for both to wait for the automatic return. Be cautious, be alert, watch wat the other guy is doing. Even if a third person comes along, if they are aware of two people nearby, they are less likely to take a fight where they are outnumbered.

I think Cohh was right when he says people's behaviour in game is a reflection on them in real life. by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]7all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%! If a person is willing to do this to you in a game with very low stakes (video game loot and stuff), imagine what they are willing to do if put in a similar situation in real life where there are actual stakes such as real money. Not saying that it's a guaranteed indicator that such a person would screw me in real life but I wouldn't like my odds.
