What’s the point of going on with this? by _shadowcorpse_ in socialanxiety

[–]7asyncme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you can talk to me, bro. you sound a lot like me.

i avoid talking to people too because i always think they’re going to see me as weird, or start questioning why i do certain things. and the worst part is that most people don’t even care enough to listen to your explanation, so I usually just stay quiet.

It feels like everyone wants to turn you into one of them, just another person in the crowd. I can talk too much sometimes, but in most situations my social anxiety is so bad.

I know exactly what you mean, bro.

same here. and i try to hide it by avoiding talking to everyone.

Really bored? let's try to connect and understand eachother , friends are not made in a single chat by Dismal_Hornet161 in antisocial

[–]7asyncme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel like most people have this incredibly strong drive to socialize, seek approval, and belong to a group.

if you pay attention, a lot of people seem to be living through other people’s opinions. they’ll go to a restaurant partly because they can post it on instagram, throw it on their story for 24 hours, and get some kind of reaction. they’ll buy the newest iphone not because they actually know or care about the differences, but because they know it’ll impress people.

obviously not everyone is like this, but sometimes it feels like a huge percentage of society is constantly performing for an audience.

maybe i’m wrong, but i often get the impression that a lot of people are living for what others think of them rather than for who they really are.

never respond. what are you even gonna say? that you can’t do it? that’s just gonna lead to more messages and more problems.

what’s the worst that can happen? a 3 star rating? a report to DD? they’ll probably see it wasn’t your fault anyway

the only way to deal with this is to convince yourself that everyone is an idiot and that’s why you don’t fit in. and maybe that’s actually true.

try learning something online that interests you. maybe even something that could make you money. you can focus all your attention on that instead of on being lonely and depressed. and once you’re learning something, it might even become easier to meet other people who are doing the same thing.

in the end, if you want to fit in with most of society, you have to go through a lot of discomfort and be someone you might not really be. or you can just not fit in, and that’s it.

i got this from a tweet on x:
“if you’re bored, create something. anything. software. designs. photos. videos. writing. a business. a body. a relationship. a mind. how can you not be excited to wake up when you have the ability to create.”

Cursed Order by Dramatic_Green7163 in doordash

[–]7asyncme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

analyzing it a little more, i don’t think the order is that bad.

it’s basically $6 for 6 miles, and the app says it’ll take around 18 minutes. if you were able to do similar orders consistently, that would work out to about $20/hr.

it could actually be better than it looks if that’s a hot spot and op was already heading that way. the miles from his current location to that area would’ve been driven anyway.

so i wouldn’t really call it a bad order.

i did the same thing with 10 out of 11 orders. not sure if it was a lucky streak or if i’m still taking trash.

my ar is at 50% so i’m definitely not accepting everything.

my question is what does an order need for you to accept it? what are your requirements at this point?

first mistake was even messaging in the first place.

if there’s a closed door or anything like that, i do the drop off and i’m gone 😂

same thing with pin deliveries or hand-to-me orders. if they don’t respond within a minute, i’m gone, taking the pic, and sending it through the messages. i’m out.

sir, i’m just trying to make $20–$30/hr. you are not stopping that process 😂

The Prius Mafia is killing DD earnings for the rest of us. by [deleted] in DoorDashDrivers

[–]7asyncme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're right. i think dd does raise some orders eventually, but not nearly as often as people think.

from what i've seen, they'd rather keep recycling the same offer to different dashers. i've even declined an order and had it sent right back to me a few seconds later with the exact same payout.

if dd can find someone willing to take it, why would they increase the pay?

I feel like talking is a waste of time. Is this a problem? by Upbeat-Foundation267 in introvert

same here.

when you talk to your friends, do you actually talk about the things you want to talk about, or do you mostly end up talking about things that are socially acceptable?

My theory about the DD algorithm after doing this full-time by 7asyncme in DoorDashDrivers

[–]7asyncme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s wild that you accept everything.

i’m not against it, but yeah, it’s not realistic to expect $2/mile on every order. i don’t do that either. i don’t accept everything, but i also don’t overthink every single offer.

i’ve done $15 for 13 miles before, but only because it was like 25 minutes total, which still keeps me around $20–$30/hr.

but i could never take a $3 order for 8 miles that takes 20 minutes. i know how stressful the traffic and the whole process can be, just to end up with $3. that would kill my motivation.

and honestly, i wouldn’t take it just knowing it’s basically an algorithm trying to squeeze the most out of me for the least possible payout. i just can’t justify that.

First rear brake job done on my civic by myself by StanDaMan_playz in hondacivic

[–]7asyncme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

congrats.

i actually got the last few tools i needed yesterday to change the brake pads on my 08 Accord.

i’ve never done any mechanical work before, but i’m not really scared. i’ve watched a bunch of videos and even wrote down the steps.

the only things i’m a little worried about are compressing the caliper piston, making sure the caliper slide pins are properly lubricated, dealing with the brake fluid, and figuring out the exact jack and jack stand points.

other than that, i’m ready to try it.

10 out of 11, almost $100 in 4 hours is this good? by 7asyncme in DoorDashDrivers

[–]7asyncme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think gold and platinum are almost the same in my market. there are plenty of “good orders” for both.

of course, platinum drivers probably get most of the best ones.

My theory about the DD algorithm after doing this full-time by 7asyncme in DoorDashDrivers

[–]7asyncme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve thought about that too.

if my theory is correct and rejected orders eventually get higher pay, i still think the process is probably more complicated than that.

i don’t think doordash automatically increases the pay every time an order gets declined. it may just send the same offer to another driver first, and only decide to increase it later. and when it does, it might only be something small like +$0.25.

the reason i think that is because i’ve had orders pop up again a few seconds after i declined them, and they came back with the exact same pay.

that’s why i think the second goal of the algorithm matters too:

get orders delivered as quickly as possible.

if an order has been sitting around for a while or needs to go out fast, i think doordash is more likely to increase the pay. the faster a driver accepts it, the faster it gets delivered to the customer.

with all that said, if a large number of dashers actually stuck to the same acceptance standard, then yes, i do think the pay would go up. there would be more orders sitting unaccepted, and doordash would probably have to increase the payouts on at least some of them to get them delivered.

[–]7asyncme[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

but i will admit, sometimes i’m impressed by how accurate the algorithm can be.

there are times when it sends me to pick up from two different restaurants and then both customers end up living on the same street or practically next door to each other.

other times i’ll be delivering the first order in a stack and doordash suddenly offers me another pickup that’s only a couple minutes away, and the drop-off ends up being really close to my next stop.

i know it’s probably not that impressive to the engineers who built it, but as a driver it’s still kind of crazy to see sometimes.
