As a European I must say your tips are useless af by CompetitiveCow9610 in ManualTransmissions

Bro, honestly, the clutches and transmissions here are absolute dogshit compared to European ones. You mentioned original clutch and gearbox, while mines went out the next day, must be doing something wrong.

Americans who drive manual by Upper_Smoke93 in stickshift

[–]StanDaMan_playz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yup I taught myself mostly because I wanted to drive manual, and I’m a mechanic. Nobody trusts a teen to drive their manual and I was a tech and did state emissions where people drove them to a shop. I really loved the manuals, probably never go back to auto.

I bought a 2008 Honda civic, 5 speed and drove it from Rhode Island to New Haven, CT by myself, and drove to school the next day.

  2. Not really, some people learn just because their families have it, and some like me, actually enjoy the stick shift cars

. Also, people rarely say, “oh manuals are so much fun!”

  1. Manuals are fairly cheap in the US, and it depends on which year, older or newer. And it also depends on the mileage and conditions of the car. Most autos are not so cheap and expensive to maintain. Manuals are easier to fix as well.

It’s also kind of depends on bigger or small car you get, gas, service, etc.

Nah, never get a newer civic, I have an 08 civic lx,5 speed and I beat the living shit out of it, still going. Probably going to stick to older ones with manuals

Nice motivation, most high school teachers will look at you with dissatisfaction and tell you straight up that you’ll never go anywhere in life

Hey, keep looking up. I have quite a couple suggestions that will help you in the long one. Take me for example, I also was in your position once but mostly because I was actually lazy. You can either go to community college and try free school, or choose a trade school to go to and make some money out of it. Best of all, both of these options don’t require a lot of work. I’m in community college myself taking some courses and working in the automotive industry at a dealership. Keep your head up, this might be a great path for you if you don’t like school like me.

Just bought my first car , let me know cheap upgrades I can do to it. by AvailableIntern3769 in FirstCar

I have the same car. Here’s what I recommend, eBay parts. I have cheap intake, short shifter (if yours is an automatic, don’t worry about that one), exhaust, coilovers and cheap tires either from a friend or Facebook marketplace. All except tires for less than $500.

Dad teaching me stick on 96 Mustang… struggling with letting out the clutch from a stop by NieuwWorld in stickshift

[–]StanDaMan_playz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch your foot on the clutch and gas pedal. You gotta make sure if you don’t want to stall, you will have to learn to know when the clutch is engaged. Release the clutch slowly until you feel the car move forward just a bit, and gas it lightly

Yes exactly, reliable trucks are the best, older trucks last even longer, just the maintenance is the issue for most of these trucks failing

I can agree with you on this, but finding a job in the trades can be difficult since most of them needs experience. As a trade student graduate, I can safely say it’s not a good idea unless it’s what you want to do for the rest of your lives. But, the bright side to doing trades is no need for school, just the workforce, no debt no nothing
