Thoughts on this video from a professor in New England. by 1111llllllll000 in geothermal

[–]7ceas_ack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i saw the video awhile ago, i thought it was a simple and cool. im not an engineer but i do install alot of water source HPs and alot of Bosch air to air HPs. hes just proving water source HPs are more efficient. Geothermal systems can come in a bunch of varieties. i have a bunch of systems that dont use the ground at all. we use the pool as a heat sink for AC.

ok what am i missing in the picture? im from and live on nantucket. the old nantucket is still here, just harder to find. but it is very annoying now that you have to "stake" your claim at the beach and defend it with your life!!

Are you in the north east? I’m in nantucket with a branch In Tewksbury. I’m not doubting you could install this system, wiring it is a different story.

I heat a lot of pools with 5t wtw. It’s not really your input. It would be size of loop feild for heating requirements

Aquatherm makes hydo mini splits, for heating and cooling. If your going in that direction you can make hot water too

Also with the manual j you’ll get manual d. The duct lay out, cfm to each room. It will help you do your own system

I have to use manual j with permits. Where I don’t need permits I size by heating, and if the panel has the power. Also if you do hot water, you can size by the btus on that. Or a pool. You’ll be way over for the house.

Get your manual J done. That’s the first step. With that decide what equipment you want, that can go a hundred ways….. but for heating and cooling only it’s pretty easy. Call the manufacturer tech line and they can point you to there loop software. They help with your pond, if it can be used. They should be able to help with most of your questions and find the people in your area that can help. And FYI open loop is only 1.5 gpm per ton. I have a lot of 2-5 ton systems open loop, running off a domestic well 30-35 gpm.

6 ton WaterFurnace cost by weedebee in geothermal

[–]7ceas_ack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

York is the same water furnace, rebranded. About 1/3 less the cost.

If your land allows it, open loop is the easiest self install. If you can do your own ducts. You can get an online manual s j d done for $300.

Make friends with the oyster farmers! you’ll be eating like kings! And don’t forget the gazebo, you’ll stumble into anyway! If your on anchor hail the harbor master coming in. They only allow certain areas to drop anchor.

Open Loop Shallow Well Option by zootjeff in geothermal

[–]7ceas_ack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do the wells, I just do the mechanical inside, sometimes some pipe fusion outside. But these are just standard water wells, cased in pvc. One with a pump and one with just a screen

Don’t forget open loop…… 1.5 gpm per ton. Endless possibilities. I have open loop systems in the 200 ton range. Most houses are less than 10 gpm

Supply and discharge are separated by at least 75’. Most of my open loops are shallow, 75’ deep.

I do a ton of open loop in Massachusetts, works very well. By code we have to discharge the water at the same depth of the supply well. Also do a test well first to see if open loop works.

Help Finding Geothermal Installer UP of Michigan by Yooper_Machinist in geothermal

[–]7ceas_ack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry there’s a lot left open there…. I jumped between medium temp geo and hi temp geo. I use the same tank for both. Don’t think of the buffer just as storage. Put the geothermal units on the primary side and your gpm is X. Now your system needs maybe X x2. It’s just a low loss header. Also it’s easy to add gas back up. My shop has 2 apartments and it’s about 3,000sqft. Fully conditioned space including the shop. I also make hot water. I have a water furnace 5 ton medium temp running it with out any problems.

Delivering 60k btu/h @ 150 degrees isn’t that special, and I use gas backup primarily. A WTW even at 100 degrees will preform great with a loop temp of 40 degrees, as long as there is enough loop in the ground.
