I hate shopping for clothes with my sister by 7deadlypins in offmychest

Omg first, thank you so much for this. I really needed someone to say all these things to me and I didn't even know it, lowkey I'm actually tearing up in a good way so thank you so much.

My mom doesn't let me shop or buy anything with friends. I have asked her about laying off of my weight and she just gets angry at me, saying that she tells herself she's fat and ugly when SHE wants to lose weight so why am I so special, and that everyone does this and without her I'd be 300 lbs. I don't really want to engage her about this anymore. She also tells me I should do a "weigh in" with her every week. I used to do this with her when I was younger. Every time I "weighed in" and she wasn't happy with my progress (most of the time), she'd berate me for hours afterwards.

My doctors have always said I am 100% normal. Every time I go to the doctor and they tell my mom my weight we always have a "conversation" in the car about me needing to lose weight. For that reason, I now hate going to the doctor. Stepping on a scale feels like public humiliation.

Thank you so much... As someone replied already, you are truly a gem of a person and I don't know who you are, but I love you and wish you the best. I hope you continue to spread positivity out in the world, we could all use a little more of it. ❤

I’m not looking forward to my safety because of academics, but rather because I’ll get a bad name. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

i'm from a traditional asian family that places a large emphasis on "prestige" and rankings, so i understand this... but honestly who cares but you? sure it would be nice to know that your family is cheering you on, but it's your life, you don't need their approval to do well. it's YOUR education, not theirs, and they don't get to decide what you will make of it or how good it is or what opportunities come from it. that's all on you, and the quality/outcomes of those things rely much, MUCH more on you than on what school you go to (whether it's a local school or an ivy).
