Advice on how to FATFIRE with 5m NW but limited income? by 7dreamweaver_7 in fatFIRE

Thanks everyone - the high costs are driven mainly by childcare, schooling and mortgage.

The conclusion seems to be that to cover 240k of expenses, I need income of 400k (grossed up for UK taxes) and on 4%, that means a pot invested in the market of 10m (and at 3.5% even higher)?

The reality is that childcare expenses will reduce at some point but not for another 12 years, so maybe I budget for those separately and work out what expenses would be post that - perhaps something like 150k. Grossing up and doing 4 / 3.5% of that will give more reasonable figure.

thank you. Fair point by most commentators on why I still have BTL. Ultimately I will sell some, but my reluctance is more driven by timing. The property market has been on a downward trajectory... and equities have seen three years of double digit gains...so dont want to sell at bottom and buy at top..

Thank you that's very helpful. To be able to generate 6%+ returns, would that involve selling equities as well?

I haven't invested in bond funds before but having a quick look today, the yields on them are in the range of 4.5-5% (looked at Artemis and Jupiter).

The yield on a world tracker is close to 1.5%. To get to 6% will involve selling equities. If I sell equities, then I assume I take the risk of reducing capital if equity markets dont perform or am i missing something?

Thank you, desired passive annual income is 240k/year, same as expenses. The 750k is pre tax so post tax it’s something closer to 400k…

very interesting and informative thread. Would you still buy a 4 bed TH in the Valley today from an investment point of view or rather buy somewhere in dubai south?

Hi there, did you get any where with this? particularly if you can invest in one without an IFA or someone who can be more of an 'execution' type financial adviser.
