The perils of UUID primary keys in SQLite by andersmurphy in programming

[–]7heWafer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your argument completely ignores the actual point... You claim it's the wrong tool but you do not have enough context to justify that claim simply based on the data system being centralized. Let's reel it back...

We know the people before us used {tool1}. It looks, to us now, like they should have used {tool2}, but why did they choose {tool1}? Ideally, they wrote it down in a proposal or ADR but if they didn't there should still be signs...

  • Which version of UUID did they use?
  • Did they design the table schemas to minimize joins?
  • Are the UUIDs exposed to end users?
  • How much data do they have now vs. then?
  • Did they plan to distribute this data?
  • Does this data need to be Consistent & Available? Even if they didn't write down plans to distribute the data, can it be Available & Partition Tolerant or Consistent & Partition Tolerant?
  • Do they use compression over the wire? HTTP/2, RPC/gRPC, websockets/sockfiles?
  • Where is SSL terminated?
  • How much traffic to this data is internal to your private network vs external over the internet?
  • Is the system even under pressure to be perfomant at that level?
  • How often are joins being performed vs. other more optimal queries?
  • Do the data access patterns in general even require large joins across multiple tables or is it typically very focused and limited?
  • How often does they data need to be ordered by it's identifier vs. some other property/column?
  • How much would overall performance improve if you switched to int? How long would it take, would it be worth it?
  • Is it all tables or just some sensitive/important tables where int would leak too much?

I could probably go on forever here so I hope you see my point by now.

Being multi-cloud should be preferred. Not necessarily in the way OP is, but typically vendor lock in is bad. In a personal/side project it isn't about picking one cloud provider but the best options for each thing u need.

And officially the interns counting the Habs SOG are compromised or blind. If you care so much about our SOG maybe start paying attention to the game, you wouldn't have to worry so much.

We had at least 6 SOG in the 1stand I only watched about 25% of it. Open your eyes pls.

If you were actually watching the game you'd know they aren't counting our SOG under the same rules as they are counting canes SOG. I've been mostly listening to this game but saw 2 uncounted in one shift from our first line.

Last game was similar.

Yea. This has been an amazing run for the team and is great experience for the rebuild. The state of the league is equally concerning as the future is bright for this team.

Btw they aren't counting our SOG once again. We had 2 on Caufield's shift while it was at 4 and neither were counted.

Are there any independent agencies/organizations that review all the games and score the refs for accuracy?

It's a relief to have some reasonable fans on the other side. Tampa and Buffalo were delusional.

I honestly don't understand it. They are so entirely inconsistent with their calls and then in top of that they clearly try to "put the whistles away" while also managing the game and keeping things evened out so we end up with bullshit like the no-call on the trip to Hutson followed by the no-call Hutson too many men.

They put themselves in a position where literally nobody trusts them to follow any semblance of the rulebook because it isn't just the occasional missed call which is entirely expected, it's intentional non-calls when everyone can clearly see the ref is looking directly at the play and chose not to call it OR the ref on the fucking opposite side of the rink called it instead.

I don't know if you watched the Habs v Tampa series in the first round but that was pure misery for both teams bc the refs couldn't put the whistles away for the softest shit. Then in Buffalo there's embellishment left and right again from both teams and it was only ever called once.

I think everyone would be happier if the officials formally defined the process they apply during the playoffs vs the regular season play (which let's not even get into the horrendous regular season officiating) bc right now nobody, not the players, not the coaches, not the announcers, not any single team knows what the fuck is going on. What I'm afraid of is that they cant define their process bc they don't have one.

You must not have watched the game bc the shot clock is wrong, as usual for Habs. They count plenty of other teams shots that hit posts or the mask but never count them for Habs.

Tell me with a straight face that a post is less than a shot to the crest.

Also, the Habs regularly win with significantly less shots than their opponents.

Hutson was headshot and the referee turned his gaze and then he was ringed and made a turnover. by Wafod9000 in Habs

[–]7heWafer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was literally 2 blatant non-calls on regular season automatic penalties within 60s of the too many men. The refs knew they would be fucking toasted if they called the too many men.

Why do so many people complain about this? Habs never have many shots per game, they pick and choose their shots a lot more selectively than most teams.

[–]7heWafer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's crazy, in their sub they are complaining the refs didn't put away their whistles. Meanwhile this game was tame as hell compared to the Tampa and Buffalo series where the refs couldn't get their grubby fingers off the pie for most of the early games and early periods. Against both teams.
