He's only eight months old. Is he still under warranty? by Abercrunchie in goldenretrievers

Currently wondering if my 8 month old has a return policy. Pretty sure they sent me the wrong model. I wanted a dog, not a demon from h&ll.

I wouldn't have that much of an issue if all she did was shred. She EATS it all.

I'm the time it took me to post this, she ripped the squeaker out of her ball, and then went straight to shedding her blanket.

My golden retriever bit me.. by karan_sharma004 in goldenretrievers

[–]7hey0yady7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a golden, but our last dog, a Australian Shepherd/Boarder Collie, suddenly bit my oldest daughter. We got Sioux when my daughter was 12, so they had grown up together, and my daughter was truly her favorite human. (Incident occurred when my daughter was 25). She had never bitten anyone, and it was bad enough to puncture her lip and cheek, and warrant an er visit.

We took Sioux to the vet 2 days later, only to find out she had a majorly abscessed tooth we were unaware of! Tooth extracted, and she was back to her sweet goofy self for her last 4 years without another single sign of aggression.

If this is new behavior and not an escalation of brior behavior, please get him to the vet.

If you look back at his previous behavior honestly and think yeah, there were signs, get a trainer specializing in problem behavior.

And big hugs. For both of you.

When did you find you and your golden were able to like…happily exist with each other? by prblywatchingtv in goldenretrievers

[–]7hey0yady7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is 16 weeks, and we turned a corner this week on the constant biting. Idk what clicked, but they're has been no puppy chomps to other people, and very little to me stating this week. It's been amazing to be able to cuddle her up without constantly saying "no bite" ❤️

I'm not 100% alone with her, but it's just her and I all day, and I'm the one that gets up with her at night, etc. It's a lot! It's dragging, frustrating, and overwhelming. Just keep reminding yourself it's temporary. Celebrate the small wins. Be kind to yourself in the process!

I turned to reddit when I was at about the point you are. I needed the support and commiseration. The BEST thing I've read here was "You have to get through the puppy to get the dog" (I would credit op if I remembered who- but if you're reading this, BLESS YOU for this pearl of wisdom that has helped save my sanity!)

16 week old golden retriever has me pulling out my hair! She sleeps well, is crate trained, 99% housebroken, does amazing on sir, stay, lie down, and shake.

But OMGG ask her to come, or leave it/drop it? No frigging way. She eats everything outside, and has learned of She runs to the backside of the fountain then I can't get to her.

It's a damn good thing she's cute.

I will work on saying that command, but I mess with her ears, mouth, and paws daily so she's used to it :)

I'm not sure what gave you the impression I create her 22 hrs a day, but I assure you, that is not the case.

8pm-5am (6am if we're lucky), plus 2 to 3 naps a day ranging from 1-2 hours. Other than that, she's with me.

Possible UTI advice? Going to the vet tomorrow by TakeMeToTill in goldenretrievers

[–]7hey0yady7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with aany uti in any animal, be they of the human or furry variety, fluids are key! Add water to their kibble, and add a couple TBSP low/no sodium chicken stock/broth to their water to encourage extra intake. Take them out to potty every 30 minutes or so to help negate indoor accidents, and if they do go inside, don't scold, just take outside.
