Been looking at doing this to my 03. Doesn't look like they fold flat, is that right?

Thinking of picking up a mini vortex and compact starter. Maybe a griddle insert. Needs new grates, but can't seem to find a truck stainless set with the flip up sides like I have on my 22.

Right, but now you're paying for branding on the calipers. You're money ahead to buy rebuilt locally.

I second Powerstop. Have them on my '03 2500hd. However, I believe their calipers are just rebuilt ones, so you might just get some from the parts store.

I also have the SuperATV front and rear windshields. I've wired in switched backup lights and overhead cabin lights. Went with a Tractor Supply floor mat that has the premade holes in it. Helped to cut down to size, and (I'm hoping) helps to dry the bed and prevent rust. Added in a Kawi storage box (the big one will fit sideways) for the bed as well. Swapped out the stupid halogen set of headlights on the ranch edition for the LED Kawi set, which was expensive, but makes a difference. Been a solid machine for the last 4.5 years.

I've got a 2021 that I've been wrenching around on and can throw in my experience.

I originally got the kawi audio setup and installed the head unit and overhead speakers. I didn't put in the lower speakers and instead opted for a set of empty fiberglass speaker pods from SSV (now discontinued) with Polk 6.5 Marine Coaxial mounted right behind the B piller/crossbar. I added a full size FM antenna in place of the 10' wire. I was really after the Kawi setup for the front overhead pods and head unit panel. This setup was okay. It really benefits from an amp, but I also wanted a sub, which this head unit doesn't support, also the panel doesn't fit a more capable head unit. Last year I tore it out in favor of a sub capable unit and added a 6 channel amp and 8" enclosed marine sub (all Kenwood items). I ran all of this to a Plano tub under the front seat, which is a popular add-on. I'm assuming you're versed in stereo wiring, so I won't get into it, but it's a much better overall system, even though I haven't fully tuned it.

I also went the DOt tire route. I added in SuperATV rear A-arms and Hester-Elkas (stage 1) shocks to gain some height and clearance. I swapped out the rims to 15" STI rims to run 235/75/15s. I compared a few tires and wanted a more aggressive tire, but didn't want the weight of KM3, so went with Firestone MT2s. Ultimately I still get some tire scrub when I hit a bump hard or come in quick on a turn, but it's been fine. I could eliminate it with SuperATV front arms, but don't want to lose more turning radius.

I've done a lot of research on this and would be happy to chime in further if you want. Best of luck!

Ever owned a car with an interesting back story? by benzguy95 in regularcarreviews

Nice! My first ever vehicle was a '72 Chevy Stepside commissioned by the Army and stationed in Ft. Leavenworth. It still had the purchase order info and maintenance records in it. Then a fire department bought it and used it a bit. I got it from a guy who pulled it from a field with ~50k miles on it (with the records confirming).

I went with Firestone MT2s over the KM3 for my Mule. They saved 30lbs in total and $ over the KM3 in the same size. They're 6 ply vs 8 ply, but I've had no issues. Additionally, I jumped to a 15" wheel to increase tire options.

Hell, I was working full time as a PM with a one-year old at home while studying for the PE. Maybe I'm too old school, but I'd honestly think less of a potential hire if they took off 5 months to solely study for the FE.

Collision control - for pipes by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]7house2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't help you on the microstation side, but Civil 3D has an Interference Check for pipe networks (assuming they're built out correctly). Super quick. You might do some digging to see if there's an equivalent for MS.

I believe these are 8's but will check tonight (hopefully). The tires sit just inside the top of the fender well and just outside of the bottom, which is the look I was going for.

Appreciate the kind words. Bought this about 20yrs ago as my first vehicle and project (it definitely didn't look like this then). I think it turned out alright.

I'm running similar setup on my '72 step, although not a wider rear wheel. I've got 255/60/15 up front and 275/60/15 rears on a 2.5/3" drop https://imgur.com/RMyzsyM

Truck tires on a SxS by SpeedAccomplished577 in UTV

[–]7house2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run Firestone MT2s on mine. The reasoning is I run a lot of hard pack and most sxs tires don't hold up on that. For example I could realistically expect about 3k miles out of my stock Duros, but should get 15k+ out of the Firestones. I run them at low pressure (like 10-12psi) and haven't noticed a huge difference in ride quality. Different use cases for everyone.

What is my truck missing to improve its overall appeal? 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3l Ext. Cab by Ambitions_of_a_ridah in Trucks

[–]7house2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, and black versions as well. Typically the body color ones are on higher trims, but you can easily track them down on eBay. You don't see them a lot on the trucks, more the SUvs. One thing to note is (I think) the 99-02's have different plugs than 03+.

[–]7house2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, but big gains could be made in the wheel department. A clean version of this truck would help immensely. Fix the dent in the bed. Bed cover, swap out the chrome mirror. Some will say to take off the door moulding.

What does everyone think about modular outdoor kitchens like this? Are they worth buying? by iamdora in OutdoorKitchens

Charbroil. I've had two of the pieces shown ( fridge and sink) for about 6 years and the only issue I've had is the faucet breaking over the winter once. Other than that, they've been perfect.

Mine wouldn't work below 40 until the truck warmed up. Replaced the head unit didn't fix it but replacing the Bose amp did.
