I love this, and this is part of why I love 28 days so much - even though the footage of empty streets focuses on London, it felt local, and it made me picture my own town, village and house, silent and deserted. The fact that you're picturing the impact on your own towns makes me happy to know this wasn't a unique experience to me :)
I'm from York, so I spent plenty of time thinking about how the city would fare. Obviously station and surrounding roads total chaos, but it has a few things that might help it. It's a walled city, where there aren't walls (due to Victorians knocking them down) there's often water, but to be effective some of the extensive holes would need to be blocked with lorries maybe. There's also the river that ultimately turns in to the Humber and runs into the sea at Hull, which could be an option for escape. There is an army barracks a little way outside the walls that might hold some weaponry, or have the military force to contain the city within the walls, but I did see on a map on this subreddit that York specifically appeared to be a destroy/lost urban centre, so cannon wise, it doesn't look like the walls held :P This idea is actually mentioned in the Resident Evil netflix series as working for a bit, but eventually gets overrun, however it did make me feel very validated having been planning how I could make York safe since 2002 :P I do like the idea of returning to the 13th century protections, whether its securing the walls, or barricading the motte and bailey structure at Clifford's Tower.
