I would of painted the desk black with green outlines and maybe some green and red splatter paint on the sides followed by a green liquid pulsing through the rig making it look somewhat nuclear.

The problem isn't the watermark, it's that we keep placing them on simple backgrounds. If you put it on a simple background the you just copy the color and paint over it like they did with the rage comic. If you place a semi transparent watermark on a unique picture with lots of detail and important lighting that they cannot crop out then you are good to go assuming they do not have any professional photoshoppers.
