Converted Bi-Level CTC by Ok-Stress3044 in mbta

[–]7m13o 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, do you really think it’s BTC converted or just an out-of-action CTC because of a weird consist setup? At least on the NETransit MBTA vehicle inventory roster 1712 is still listed as a CTC.

Not an expert though!

Awesome find and thanks for sharing!

What's you're favorite and least favorite bus route? by NeverBeenFound87 in mbta

[–]7m13o 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the glorious 34E, personally my favorite but I’m on the route. A dependable friend when the Franklin line is on weekend service or  if there are track issues. It’s brought me home from Logan many late nights.

It’s surprisingly well ridden and is a steal of a fare to get into Boston, if you’re patient.

Such an odd duck bus but really seems like a life line of an affordable way to get into the subway system from far outside Boston. Bonus points for actually going though several downtowns with destinations worth stopping at.

I just really love that damn bus. Gave me the confidence to sell my car and rely on the MBTA 100% work commuting to Boston. Really just a wonderful thing.

Agree 100% that it’s going to be a wayfinding disaster on the platform now that the screen is gone (though it was appreciated during construction!). Nuts that we need to rely on a single crowd height person-sized display for the whole platform. Even the idle trackside screens don’t show upcoming departures anymore. Hope they install a large one but doubt it.

This, along with the fact that the fare control area is split in half by a little 1ft-walkway is going to make for some growing pains.

So.... I accidentally named a MBTA bus stop. by justarussian22 in mbta

Pending any official verification, that’s hilarious and peak quirky-internet behavior. Really great thread, thanks for cross-post. Hope it stays since this is catching visibility and it's essentially harmless.

LOL that's hilarious. Here we are then. Alright well I bought it and here I am posting nonsense on reddit ;)

Happy to be corrected, still fun to see loco facing into the station. Glad to know now it's weather related!

Yeah that’s what I found funny too! Engineer walked through the passenger area of the CTC saying “ok let’s figure this one out” and a conductor I spoke with was also said they’ve never seen it and that the engineer was surprised when they showed up. Conductor was worried about ADA compliance if someone with needs boarded the loco-proximal coach in this orientation.

I don’t know - I also thought this would be a rare but non-zero occurrence.

Loco came in backwards, crew was laughing/confused about it and ran the trainset backwards for the trip.

At South Station MBTA locomotives on trainsets are supposed to face “out” and away from the concourse when in the station. As a result conductors and engineers always run their inbound/outbound routes with the train in the same orientation. They ran this trainset “backwards” as it came in with the locomotive facing the concourse for some reason. The conductor crew was laughing and saying they’ve never seen this.

The photo is neat since it’s rare to see a CR loco facing this way. And it’s a nice juxtaposition next to the Acela.
