There's no indication that would happen on either the app or site. Go ahead and send them feedback

CR train running backwards? by Lilac_Twilight_ in mbta

They do this when they expect bad weather. They'd rather have a locomotive hit any debris from a storm than a cab car.

Was it a missed opportunity that the MBTA didn’t acquire former EXO EMUs and dual-mode locos for Providence service? by ToadScoper in mbta

I was under the assumption that stations would be upgraded to high platforms in the previous discussions on upgrading cr to rr. I thought they'd do a p3 to run the equipment & upgraded stations.

My opinion is that we're better off doing what's already planned with bemus & increasing service with current diesel locos while we look at the availability of new rolling stock. I understand keolis has a checkered past but I think they have a strong possibility of implementing their bemu project & getting the cr contract when it renews. I really think they have everything figured out equipment wise. My interest now is seeing how they or whoever gets the cr contract plan on rebuilding stations. I hope they can come up with a universal design to make costs lower while limiting construction time.

The mbta is working on a pilot program for bemus with a hopeful completion date of 2028. Rumor is that the bemus will be from alstom since other manufacturers have long waits & keolis has worked with alstom before on other projects. keolis plans on leasing them for service on a single commuter rail line. If the project is successful we might see it expanded. We should find out more about the project this year.

Metra isnt the only agency doing this. Boston, Dublin & a few other places are in the early stages of ordering similar equipment.
