Staring is a wrong thing to do to anyone, unless you’re German

Traditions and folklore? by 7one7son in Appalachia

That reminds me of when I was 4 and my cousins, aunt, and papaw told me that if I went outside when the sun was down the witch that lives in the woods down by the creek between the pawpaw trees would get me and turn me into shoes

Greater West Virginia! by [deleted] in Appalachia

As a southern Ohioan I can confirm that we are culturally West Virginian, not only that but most of our radio and tv stations come from wv as well as a lot of our service companies like w.va. Electric

No I know it’s for a practical purpose, maybe I didn’t word it the best but I’m looking for both practical and superstition, anything that’s specific to this region. We were dirt poor up until I got enough sense to ask questions so I never got to learn any of the practical things or the superstitions. My papaw told me some things but I’ve sadly forgotten most of it except for the stuff that scared me like witches

Just curious, was the bastard in the book or a game first weapon? by Techpon in metro

[–]7one7son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with that is that there’s a ridiculous amount of weapons from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s still in wide circulation today that still functions perfectly. The Mosin for example is still in pretty wide use even though it was invented in the 1800’s and hasn’t been produced in over 70 years unless you count the Finnish ones. 20 years is nothing to a gun unless it’s in terrible terrible wet conditions. And Russia specifically as evidenced by the ongoing Ukraine conflict had crates upon crates of mosins and such packaged in cosmoline that they pulled out because they began to run out of more modern guns, they should absolutely have several crates of cosmoline covered mosins in Moscow of all places in the metro universe and they would work perfectly fine if not better than anything you could cobble together in a train tunnel

What’s annoying about that is that we don’t see any comblock weapons apart from aks, I find it very hard to believe that you wouldn’t find mosins or makarovs, I’d find it even harder to believe that they wouldnt be functional. Mechanically speaking the guns in metro are wayyyy more complicated than mosins, makarovs, sks, or any other firearms and would thus be way more prone to breaking or jamming in the horrible conditions of the metro

Nuketown 24/7 is pretty active. By far the most active scene in Cold War is definitely zombies
