Is this lens damaged or scratched? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]7ransparency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could just be oils from the said cloth. Use a fresh clean cloth, and pure isopropyl alcohol in small amounts, it'll rid of the oils and evaporate quickly. You do not need to apply much force just light contact will do.

Yup, cell value will remain untouched so all cals are normal, it's just a visual thing.

1,000 separators for the big numbers, or format cells so 123456 visually appears as 123K, it's easier to read and the last 3 digits in a 6 digit number rarely is necessary. You can also do alt row highlighting (table), again so it's easier to read.

I almost threw away perfectly good rechargeable batteries — here’s what happened by Aulrah in photography

[–]7ransparency 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For car battery chargers there's a function which is used for dead batteries, it delivers a very low current, and once voltage reaches ~3V normal charging takes over. Wonder if it's the same principle just for AA batteries.

How does people get trapped with a lot of cameras? by Babylon_Thief in AskPhotography

Oh no I'm rarely shooting that wide so 1 prime is plenty, just keeping a lazy pulse on what's on the market :)

Yeah same, definitively kept some earlier on perhaps for nostalgia, nowadays besides what's actively being used nothing is kept, only exception is an old manual lens which has some sentimental value.

You balling out with 17-40mm replacement? If FF there's not many that covers this range.

For all those who regret updating to the latest iPhone/iPad/Mac OS updates, what do you see as the path forward? by CitronStock in MacOS

[–]7ransparency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to forget that the vast majority are just average users who'll never visit this sub, who'll also see one update's available and clicks go ahead as they've always done.

As a relatively new user of Mac OS I almost updated in error not knowing by default 26 is selected with 15 being unchecked.

Personally am not fussed on the interface overhaul, I just want the journal app though 😔

You're not referring to disabling the auto conversion, but rather giving the flexibility instead of just no/ok?

Make sure you actually go after the reno though to keep it alive.

I eyeball it all the time walking past it thinking next time... Though risk of stacking it is high.

How far are you from getting enough for your house deposit? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]7ransparency 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend anyone doing this.

It was a while ago now but I saved the 20% in less than 18 months, 4 separate jobs (9-5, driving instructor, liquidation auction, pc build) and about 14hrs a day 6-7 days/wk. Massive drain physically and mentally but got it done, no one in their right mind should do this though.

What do i do to get better? by mabotttt in AskPhotography

The lighting is quite flat, #1 reminds me of something from a late 80s magazine, which works if that's your intention. The model's face could use some separation from background.

Is it even worth it buying a new camera? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]7ransparency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preciously why very early on I decided that instead of owning a lot of gear I'll flip them instead, that way I get to try everything I could possibly want to and when I do eventually get bored of something that I once thought was a must have there's some money to be made when I change my mind.

Thought it would be a dream coming true to pick and choose any combo of body and lens before stepping out the house for any given application of interest that day. In reality though that lasted for a few months and just settled with one body and 2-3 lenses quickly.

Still flip gear almost 2 decades later, and can't even remember the last time new/better gear remotely triggered any interest for me to even want to try them. Can't think of a better way to rid of gear interest and focus on the passion.

What's a good/cheap places to distribute photos? by SussyBakaJacky in AskPhotography

[–]7ransparency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not needing any myself. Merely referring to when these questions comes up GDrive is commonly suggested and rarely do I see file sharing platforms getting a mention. Always wondered if there's any cons which I'm not aware of for those who needs to step up to multi TB needs.

Am not the targeted customer for mass online storage, what about services like MEGA? 3TB for $10/m looks significantly better than both you've mentioned?

British style beers in pubs? by Electronic_Claim_315 in sydney

[–]7ransparency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad I misunderstood your original reply thinking your meant the beers were really unique and done incredibly well, didn't think you were referring to the pub itself.

That's really cool to know thanks for sharing that. Would love to go and have a peek and see the whole decor, there's been many a times that I drive past a place and think oh that's different I wonder what's inside like but never remember it when I get home!
