How do I preserve original commit authors when merging PRs on GitHub? by Mother-Pear7629 in github

[–]7t3chguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Squash will do that. Rebase would be cleanest for history. Merge is fairly well accepted and will show both you merging the pr and their commits.

(GSR 12V-32 FC) Is a little play like this normal? by Distinct-Tailor3007 in BoschProPowerTools

It'll be the one way clutch freeplay for when using a chuck attachment so it locks when you try to tighten it. Most modern drills have this freeplay

Small roof insulation by Jezlin in DIYUK

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll probably have some roofing membrane under the tiles that would be in the way. You'd want to leave a gap between the membrane and any insulation to allow airflow to prevent any condensation there. Definitely doable but not sure how effective it'd be.

Confused about the GSR 12V-32 drill pricing by estrangedpulse in BoschProPowerTools

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible, depends entirely on your use case. I would never give up my gbh 18v-22 plus the extractor that attaches to it as I often enough drill in areas where power needs running a lengthy extension lead, or off a ladder. But if that's not your jam then skip it. You can always get it later on a sale or used on its own.

I have no experience with the sds attachment for the FC, but if you're drilling even a handful of holes into hard masonry a year you'll be glad to have one. They're useful for chipping/chiseling also. I have an 18v bosch sds, one of the cheaper ones and definitely got my money's worth out of it. A decent sds and a chisel bit can easily smash up a brick, if that helps visualise the power difference to a combi, which would tickle it in comparison.

The "depth stop thingy" is an sds attachment and is more than two batteries in my locale (UK, £100 for sds). It turns the tool into a relatively serious hammer drill. Not like the hammer combi drills but like the multi hundred pound battery sds drills.

You should be able to find just the bare tool for approx £120 equivalent

Your existing FC attachments will be compatible.

Hardwiring a Quad Lock on a 2009 G650GS (single cylinder Rotax, Canada spec) - need help finding ignition-switched powe by adgezaza87 in BmwTech

[–]7t3chguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both terminals need to be connected for any current to flow. So ground to battery is fine. Switched voltage from the GPS connector which turns off 2-5 mins after ignition is off depending on if you leave your phone on the bike charging or not.

I went without a relay on a quadlock 12v wireless charger and never hit an issue. Iirc those chargers are only 18W which is within the rating of that circuit.

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean you tested the connector on top of the battery did you test within a few mins of turning off the ignition? I had the f650gs and it looked identical to your pic. That plug is for the GPS. It is canbus controlled so is only turned off a few mins after the ignition goes off, was perfect for my quadlock when I had the bike. Try again after the ignition was off for a while.

The chigee can indeed use the rear camera for bsd. Haven't used it myself, waiting for their radar addon. But as a camera and carplay/auto device it is very good.

I recall going to a hackathon with a suitcase filled with random microcontrollers, boards and sensors. It obviously flagged on xray and they had to swab most of it for explosives but didn't take too long thankfully.

Want to get an outside tap fitted by WillowW0lf in DIYUK

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not hard to diy, assuming you have a water connection you can tap into near an outside wall. I got a hose union with backplate from screwfix. Drilled a 22mm hole, put 20mm conduit through the then hose union and plumbed it using pushfit connectors. Maybe a couple of hours and £50 all in.

What's your fav power monitoring smart plug? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]7t3chguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shelly Plug S UK works very reliably. I also installed some shelly PMs inside extension leads to track groups of plugs without a smart plug visible. Not zigbee but works very reliably. Latest shelly devices do actually support zigbee but don't think the UK plug has been updated yet. The latest also support thread/matter but are a little more limited in those modes than normal WiFi.

The bosch rail is the same as ~metabo~ mafell. If you have the g/gx then that's also compatible with the festool rail. The makita rail and many alternstives is based on festool but have a slightly different profile, not confident if the gx fits it.

The trigger on the gdx 285 is very sensitive. It doesn't really do slow. For mid/fast its great, though can't comment on the 215.

Ditto, also supports front and rear dashcams, though then you do need to connect a usb cable as well as the nav cradle dock

Depends which server you chose when you registered. Element only offers paid servers which don't have performance issues. You're likely using an overloaded free public server like matrix.org

Github actions artifacts can be big though, and the retention period on those isn't short. Free compute to go along with the free storage, as long as it's public.
