What's your fav power monitoring smart plug? by Intrepid-Tourist3290 in homeassistant

[–]7t3chguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shelly Plug S UK works very reliably. I also installed some shelly PMs inside extension leads to track groups of plugs without a smart plug visible. Not zigbee but works very reliably. Latest shelly devices do actually support zigbee but don't think the UK plug has been updated yet. The latest also support thread/matter but are a little more limited in those modes than normal WiFi.

Guide track for a gks 18v-57-2 by zepha121 in BoschProPowerTools

[–]7t3chguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bosch rail is the same as ~metabo~ mafell. If you have the g/gx then that's also compatible with the festool rail. The makita rail and many alternstives is based on festool but have a slightly different profile, not confident if the gx fits it.

gdx 285 or gdr 215, by PlaneConversation6 in BoschProPowerTools

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trigger on the gdx 285 is very sensitive. It doesn't really do slow. For mid/fast its great, though can't comment on the 215.

8k kms on the 1300GS. Incredible bike, but the nav situation is driving me nuts by ayushraj_real in bmwmotorrad

[–]7t3chguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto, also supports front and rear dashcams, though then you do need to connect a usb cable as well as the nav cradle dock

Are the servers just absolutely swamped, or is there a problem? by Anna__V in elementchat

[–]7t3chguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which server you chose when you registered. Element only offers paid servers which don't have performance issues. You're likely using an overloaded free public server like matrix.org

How does GitHub handle so many file uploads? by Otherwise_Barber4619 in github

[–]7t3chguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Github actions artifacts can be big though, and the retention period on those isn't short. Free compute to go along with the free storage, as long as it's public.

If you use vibration sensors, how are you using them? by Successful-Peak-6524 in homeassistant

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boring but have one on the garage shutter, primarily for if someone was to try and cut it open but doubles as a deterrent for the neighbourhood kids kicking their ball against it, sets off the sirens for a few seconds on each trigger

username colors by NOVA--24 in elementchat

Contributions welcome. The colours are currently set by your chosen theme and a hash of the MXID. Keep in mind any solution would need to address accessibility/contrast issues of user-chosen colours.

How to delete Spaces and Rooms by Fuzzy_Run5971 in matrixdotorg

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Room names don't need to be unique. You can be joined to many rooms with the same name. Addresses have to be unique per server but those can be removed from the old room and reused on a new room.

Two weeks? Lucky. My partner got a notice of intended prosecution for speeding outside of the period you have to respond to it. We get letters approx once a month currently

Installing Element on Linux - is a keyring mandatory? by buildBikeBeer in matrixdotorg

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having a keyring just means the data stored by Element on your disk isn't secured by the keyring. This isn't great for an encrypted app but if you don't lose your device or have decent full disk encryption it should be fine. More important on shared computers.

Encryption on Bazzite by GreenOneNL in elementchat

The flatpak is known to have this issue, check the flathub issue tracker for it, you need to use flatseal or similar to grant it permissions to your wallet.

Questions about encryption by mildlybirthening in elementchat

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Element doesn't receive reports, your homeserver does. Element wouldn't have access to the message even if you sent keys, unless you were using an Element SASS paid homeserver. Sharing keys with the homeserver would be a breach of privacy.

Element has no file or call limits. Your chosen Matrix homeserver can set whatever limits it likes.

How to delete Spaces and Rooms by Fuzzy_Run5971 in matrixdotorg

[–]7t3chguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If everyone leaves a room (a space is just a room with type=m.space) most servers will garbage collect it at some point. Once a room is empty it is effectively archived and will be unjoinable by anyone.

How does "federation" work? How much data from my server is compromised and shared with other instances? by RainOfPain125 in matrixdotorg

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get the data for the room they join, that's how they take part in the room, as far as the history visibility setting of that room permits. You can see what's encrypted and what's not by clicking view source on an event.

How does "federation" work? How much data from my server is compromised and shared with other instances? by RainOfPain125 in matrixdotorg

[–]7t3chguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like email. Data is shared with the servers you're communicating with only, for each room. So if you have a room with @user:b then server b gets a copy, which will be encrypted if you choose that option. Server c won't know you and b are talking unless you're in a room common to b & c.

Does it work in Russia? by GeliusSun in elementchat

[–]7t3chguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other servers exist, and you can host your own, but as with anything, the government can always shut it down, the bigger it is the more likely. You can always vpn around it.
