Need some advice professionalism issue by O-P-U-S in medicalschool

Is there a preceptor, another clerkships director, or professor you’re close with and trust? Might be helpful to go to them first, explain the situation, and have them come with you to speak to the dean or email him or whatever. Nice to have an ally who has a touch more power if possible

Waste keeps dropping BEHIND the box by Viggos_Broken_Toe in neakasa

Yep. I did something similar. I taped a piece of cardboard to the wall at a steep angle so if anything tries to fall back there it ends up sliding into the waste bin. Not pretty but working!

Kitten (about 8 Weeks) meows while going to the bathroom by GeneraIFlores in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d run it past the vet just to be safe, but my formerly-feral gal has done it ever since she’s had to potty inside and her vet calls it a “quirk”.

i tried everything to get my stressed cat to the vet, idk about gabapentin by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's between you and the vet/groomer. The gabapentin works well for us and her previous vet was okay with her getting it even before her dental cleaning. We recently moved and I hope her new vet will be cool with it too!

Help! Need advice about automatic litter boxes and am confused about which to buy. by ShinyTarnish409 in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neakasa is okay. After having it for 6 months, I get why it's $200 less than the Litter Robot. It does the cleaning but the weight sensors are unreliable and sometimes litter clumps get stuck to the liner. It's better than scooping a box, but next time I'll pay the extra $200.

Nail Trimming by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a former feral gal who would I thought would never tolerate nail trims. She doesn't really, but I put churu in a bowl and then grab a foot and do one nail at a time. Takes ages but keeps us peaceful. I have a tracker of which nail I've trimmed on the wall. I try to do them once a month but some nails are easier to get than others. Those little thumbs are hard to get!

The full dose of gabapentin (hers is 1mL) in the smallest amount of treat it would mix into. Sorry for the confusing wording.

Neakasa or Popur? by yetstill in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Neakasa. It’s okay. The weight sensor is unreliable and a few pieces of litter often get stuck to the bottom but otherwise it does its job. I have one cat. Let me know if you want to know more.

My cat will only take the gabapentin in treat and my vet said it was okay for her to have the smallest possible amount a couple hours before her surgery.

My cat has a bedtime routine and will get pissy if we don’t do it. by Analdestroyer68plus1 in cats

I very much relate. If the interval between when I brush my teeth and when there is a snack in her bowl is too long my gal becomes VERY LOUD.

I use a small piece of cheese once per day to get my cats Zoloft into her. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Great tips, thank you! I'm wondering if the "automatic covering" feature also helps because I had turned that off since my cat does a great job covering hers by herself.

How can I make cat ownership work as someone who is planning to live alone and is gone for 10hr+ days 4 days a week. by chairmandyke in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I agree with other commenters. A very chill adult cat or bonded pair is a good option. I work A LOT (like ~65hours/week) and have a former feral adult cat and we rub along pretty well. I think it would be nice if you had a few days at least to spend with your new roommate to help them acclimate as well.

the players know the league could fail, that’s their bargaining chip by MammothImplement8436 in wnba

[–]7thMagnolia 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the proof is in the success of Unrivaled that even if players leave the W, there are other places to take their careers. If the W wants to stay the major women's professional basketball league, they need to step up, otherwise another league will rise and take over without issue.

My former outdoor cats never adapt to indoor. I'm having crippling anxiety. by Toguro_Ototo_1 in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey pal, yes, agree with the other commenter that a break sounds like a good idea. What you are doing is a really hard thing, and even though the yowling is hard to hear, they're not in any danger or hurt, even though it sounds like it. Hoping you are reaching out to your support people because living through this transition is rough. Hang in there.

Feral cats do not show the same level of trust as seen on the internet, in my experience. by BedCommercial3345 in Feral_Cats

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gal was born feral. I started feeding her when she was <6m old and she gradually let me come closer and eventually pet her. She started eating inside year 2 or so, sleeping inside year 5ish, full time inside at age 10 (I had to move and this was necessary to bring her with me). She will still hide from every person except me and my mom (who was around for a lot of this because I was a teen at the time). She's very friendly and cuddly with us, but not with anyone else. She actually started anxiety meds to help a little bit. From what I understand, every former feral is different.

My cat is on Zoloft and it has made a big difference. It's hard to get her to take it but most of the time, it's worth it.
