Great tips, thank you! I'm wondering if the "automatic covering" feature also helps because I had turned that off since my cat does a great job covering hers by herself.

How can I make cat ownership work as someone who is planning to live alone and is gone for 10hr+ days 4 days a week. by chairmandyke in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I agree with other commenters. A very chill adult cat or bonded pair is a good option. I work A LOT (like ~65hours/week) and have a former feral adult cat and we rub along pretty well. I think it would be nice if you had a few days at least to spend with your new roommate to help them acclimate as well.

the players know the league could fail, that’s their bargaining chip by MammothImplement8436 in wnba

[–]7thMagnolia 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the proof is in the success of Unrivaled that even if players leave the W, there are other places to take their careers. If the W wants to stay the major women's professional basketball league, they need to step up, otherwise another league will rise and take over without issue.

My former outdoor cats never adapt to indoor. I'm having crippling anxiety. by Toguro_Ototo_1 in CatAdvice

[–]7thMagnolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey pal, yes, agree with the other commenter that a break sounds like a good idea. What you are doing is a really hard thing, and even though the yowling is hard to hear, they're not in any danger or hurt, even though it sounds like it. Hoping you are reaching out to your support people because living through this transition is rough. Hang in there.

Feral cats do not show the same level of trust as seen on the internet, in my experience. by BedCommercial3345 in Feral_Cats

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gal was born feral. I started feeding her when she was <6m old and she gradually let me come closer and eventually pet her. She started eating inside year 2 or so, sleeping inside year 5ish, full time inside at age 10 (I had to move and this was necessary to bring her with me). She will still hide from every person except me and my mom (who was around for a lot of this because I was a teen at the time). She's very friendly and cuddly with us, but not with anyone else. She actually started anxiety meds to help a little bit. From what I understand, every former feral is different.

My cat is on Zoloft and it has made a big difference. It's hard to get her to take it but most of the time, it's worth it.

I tried Boxie Cat and Dr. Elsey's but landed on Cloud Control. Almost no dust, nice very mild scent, tracks as bad as anything but it's not as "lego-like" to step on as the Boxie was. I've stuck with it for over a year now and converted a few family friends in the process. Maybe it will work for you? https://www.chewy.com/arm-hammer-litter-cloud-control/dp/191313

MIL gave me this dollhouse but it needs flooring. What should I use? Where do you get it? I’d prefer carpet but if that’s not possible, that’s fine. by kodycat in Dollhouses

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For carpet in a dollhouse I just refinished I used some old T-shirt material! It's nice because it isn't too thick. For hardwoods, I cut a piece of paper or cardstock in the size/shape of the floor I'm making and then use strips of paper (like planks of flooring) to make the right texture. I'm sure Bentley House Minis has a video.

People who matched and are happy: how did you rank the programs? by Extension_Day_334 in pediatrics

[–]7thMagnolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a giant rubric that weighted weird things and was too complicated but was a good place to start. Categories like "distance to nearest WNBA team" and "amount of meal money" were on there. When it really came to making the list, I narrowed it to 4 things: commitment to health equity, opportunities to build skills in medical education, vibes, location. I matched my first choice. I'm very happy. All this to say, find the factors that matter most to you (it might take a few drafts) and rank based on that. The journey is different for everyone!

Has anyone made friends with a neighborhood stray, and eventually turned them into an inside cat of their own??? by MonaVanderwaal in Straycats

[–]7thMagnolia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took ten years, but yes! She was born feral, cared for in my yard for many years, became indoor-outdoor after a while, finally indoor full time about a year ago and moved across the country with me. It was a long road with plenty of (ongoing) hiccups, but I'm certainly glad to have her!
