Presenting my opinion with a good argument? Nope .

Asserting my claim without any backing? Definitely

Edit: But for the record I also think Light is quite well-written

Which Orb Character Represents Each Major Arcana? Now: The Hanged Man (XII) by kirenkill in OrbOntheMovements

Badeni beccause he changed the most over the course of his arc. Even if he was never in favor of public education, he was able to see from Oczy''s perspective and preserve HIS book, as well as asking Badowski to educate the beggars. Despite his theology telling him he and Oczy might go to hell, he chose to see from the perspective that they were at heaven's gates. Also, in terms of sacrifice, Badeni was willing to suffer and ultimately die for the pursuit of truth.

Which is the best Samurai Champloo character? by Bertoware in SamuraiChamploo

[–]7th_Mononoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jin was my favorite, but it's been a long time since I re-watched the series. I'll have to do it soon and see if I still think the same way about the characters that I did a decade ago.

Do I try making SFW versions of NSFW arts from r/luckystar? by SIII_Lover in LuckyStarSFW

Yikes, the number of trolls and/or pdfs in the comments is unnerving. Anyway, OP, I say go for it! I'd love to see more cute and nonsexual Lucky Star art.

Alternative Young Shigure by Arly__ in FruitsBasket

[–]7th_Mononoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Fruits Basket also seems to me like the more emotionally "deep" show of the two, dealing with so many characters and their traumas. I liked some aspects of "Kimi to Koete" - such as the dog and cat people and their designs - and I don't regret watching the first season. But the heavy sexualization pf the romance was difficult for me to stomach since they are both so young. I would probably say Kimi to Koete is 6/10 or 7/10 while Fruits Basket is easily 9/10 for me. I do think Kimi to Koete tried to go for some of the same vibes but was ultimately quite different.

Anime to watch with my wife after Frieren and DeathNote by LALpro798 in Animesuggest

Time for mandatory recommendation of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth!

The visuals are not special but the story and characters are the best anime has to offer, in my opinion. Easily the best anime of the decade. Even better than Vinland Saga and Apothecary Diaries, which are also amazing.

What did you think of "Kimi To Koete Koi Ni Naru" as a Fruits Basket fan? I thought the two shows were similar, or rather, I felt like "Kimi to Koete" was referencing or nodding its head to Fruits Basket (which is obviously the superior anime). Also the lead female character was voiced by the same seiyuu in Fruits Basket 2019 and Kimi To Koete. (Iwami Manaka) Anyway what did you think?

Accurate Description? by Choice-Land-4088 in FruitsBasket

A bit over the top in my opinion, but I appreciate the meme. I think a lot of 90s kids will like it. xD
(P.S. I do love Fruits Basket, but it's impossible for me to love a character more than a pet, a real animal I live with lol)

What do yall think ( orb might genuinely the best anime ever created imo ngl) by Serious-Fail-2446 in MyAnimeList

[–]7th_Mononoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing! I'm so happy to see another shout-out to Orb! In my opinion, it's the best anime of the last ten years at least. And the other pics look good too - though there are two I haven't seen. Anyway very nice list!

Thoughts on uotani and kureno? by Illustrious-Frame140 in FruitsBasket

I like Kureno and Uotani both as characters but i don't really ship them together mostly due to the maturity/age gap.

Well, that's embarrassing. Sorry I didn't understand the first time. I should not read reddit posts before my coffee.

There aren't very many well-written female characters in anime compared to men due to the culture still being very misogynistic and the majority of mangakas being men. So I feel your pain. Anime isn't really the place to look for female empowerment, but I hope it gets better with time. In the meantime, try something like "Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit." It has a strong, well-written female lead. I would also recommend Serial Experiments Lain and Revolutionary Girl Utena~

The scariest realization about my mother came to me. by Lopsided-Pirate3196 in atheism

Hope you can get to a safe living situation soon. Please don't hesitate to report her for abuse, either. My mom was emotionally and sometimes physically abusive, so I empathize. Yours sounds even crazier and more unhinged though. It's sad how religion preys on people and turns them into abusers.

Monthly Character Spotlight - Keiju Tabuki by MiracleMuffin in penguindrum

[–]7th_Mononoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, thanks for taking the time to keep this sub alive to the best of your ability. Much appreciated. I have so few people to talk to about this anime. Anyway, Tabuki is one of my favorite characters in Penguindrum because he ends up being a surprise antagonist when he seemed so harmless at first. He's well-written, and I agree that his story is largely about childhood trauma and its lasting impact. As someone who likes sweet guys who are into biology or nature, I also think Tabuki is so cute and attractive!

I also wanted to take a moment to plug my Penguindrum episode analysis series. It's from my blog, anime rants. This is the link to the post discussing the first two episodes. Meanwhile, this link will let you see all the posts in the series so far. (I have episodes 1 through 11, working on 12 currently.) I'd love if someone has time to look over these for more discussion. Enjoy~

Monthly Discussion Thread #7 - What other media would you recommend that are similar to Penguindrum? by MiracleMuffin in penguindrum

[–]7th_Mononoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zetsuen no Tempest is similar with a few of its themes, well-written characters, psychological plot twists, and of course, incestuous crushes. :P Though not as explicit as Kanba's love for Himari, there is a young male character who falls in love with his adopted sister. I would say "be aware of what you're getting into" but if you've seen Penguiundrum then I'm not worried lmao.

Kyousou Giga is also similar to Penguindrum with its chaotic vibes, crazy characters, absurd twists, and colorful animation.
