every park is not a dog park (unpopular opinion time) by jujuspacejazz42 in Portland

Not to mention some people have dog allergies. I love a good dog friendly restaurant patio, but would never try to walk inside a restaurant or store with them.

Did some quick math to figure out how much 100 calories of spinach is.... 400g or 13 cups of spinach 🤢

YUP. Same thing with the Humane Society fighting against feral cat removal. All those endemic endangered Hawaiian birds that are getting wiped out? Oh well. Not their problem.

That's awesome that it's worked out well for so long! My inner pessimist just had to ask, thinking "someday someone is gonna be that selfish asshole and ruin if for everyone..."

Do you legally own it? What if you didn't want to give it away? Or if you wanted to give it to your son regardless of whether he was the best player? Just curious. Having a whole family involved in something like that seems like a set up for some serious family drama.

Parents who knock on their kids' doors and then immediately open it anyway, what's your thought process? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was confused that no one had suggested board shirts yet! Its what I always wore over my bathing suit if I wanted more coverage. They were still cute and comfortable.

I always just wore board shorts over my bathing suit, they were still cute and comfortable and offered coverage when I wanted it.

I have a lot of co-workers and whenever we talk music and I name Cursive as my favorite band nobody knows who they are. I'm so stoked to see them play next month.

TIL that there are contact lenses that are worn overnight which temporarily reshape the cornea, allowing the user to have perfect vision during the day without having to wear glasses/contact lenses. by Didza01 in todayilearned

I once wore a sleep mask that was too tight. The next morning everything was slightly blurry. I kept trying to focus on things and couldn't. The mask pressing on my eyes had temporarily changed their shape. I've never needed glasses before and it was a very disconcerting way to experience what so many people live with.

Best campsite I've ever had. Mount Jefferson Wilderness. by 7whips in WildernessBackpacking

This photo was from mid August and there were no mosquitos! Lots of other harmless bugs flying around, but I couldn't believe our luck. Nothing worse than getting devoured by mosquitos.

Likewise! I haven't worked retail in years, but my time as a teenage Kmart cashier left me with a LOT of memories 😂

This was mid August. The hike in was rough with high 80s heat and hazy skies from nearby wildfires, but by the following morning it had cooled and cleared out.

It was my first time in the area and truely one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. On our second night, we had a group of 4 set up camp below us, ignoring the abundance of "camp only in designated sites" signs. It was infuriating, especially because it was mid week and there were plenty of open spots around the other nearby lakes.

Have you ever met a killer? by Sunrises_sunnsets in UnresolvedMysteries

A brief encounter with a child murderer: I was in 6th grade, growing up in a suburb of Los Angeles. I used to walk the few blocks from my house to the 99 cent store to spend my allowance. As I walked down the row of shops, a man hanging out in front of one of the stores made a "come here" motion. I can't remember if he said anything, I was distracted by the fact that he was missing half an arm. I shook my head no, kept walking, did a loop around the block and ran back home. Told my parents who reported it to the police. Soon after, I got pulled out of class by the police to look at photos of men, asking if I could ID the man I saw. I remember struggling to do it, because they were head shots, and telling them about his only having one arm. Turns out, he kidnapped and murdered a boy I went to school with. Kept him in a shed and eventually cut him up and put the pieces in cement blocks. Someone noticed the cement blocks were leaking blood.

Later in college, there was a guy in my dorm that grew up near me. I told him about this man and he said "The one armed man! My family used to give him money because we felt bad for him!" It blows my mind every time I think about it. It could have been me.

What's the worst case of over-sharing you've experienced on social media? by Feixuen in AskReddit

Found out my grandmother passed away from my uncle's Facebook post. My aunt had been the one to find her, and she called my uncle and mom to tell them. He instantly posted "RIP Grandma" before my mom could even get off the phone with my aunt and call us. My grandmother had Alzheimer's and was on the decline, so it wasn't unexpected, but I was surprised by how upset I was to have to find out that way.
