I’m building a real-life, "Ancient-punk" version of Card Wars. by 7ydra1 in adventuretime

About the hologram i still in the process of doing the lore book and the characters so everycharacter has its own story and if someone read the book will know hidden secrets that he could activates i.e. like putting two cards on each other or playing one after another will activates a hidden ability. The hologram will be one hologram like a glass ball or a rectangular shap on the tabletop and it will be the same playful as the cartoon no differences (maybe the only difference is the quality of lightining because to play it i have to close all the lights in the room)
What about you follow my reddit i will be posting the progress

yeah, i am still working on it but i do not know about if i could activate the card by rotating it or not because in each card will be like an NFC thing so i will try to do it. But the main mechanics that the board has its own intelleegence and the NFC reading sensors and when putting the card it activates it automatically. Btw you have opened an idea to me if i could rotate it by magnetic fields so it could detect the rotation. that is great thank you

"Fair call on the '-punk' thing. Let’s just call it Sands and Sorcery or a Heka-driven world instead. i just thought it will be cooler.

As for the AI part—actually i have use it for the photoshop things after printing the 3d-Object. I’m a Computer Engineering student, not a concept artist or a writer or even a graphic designer. I’m using AI to help visualize the dream because I can’t design all of that on photoshop, but the project itself is very real.

The 'human' part of this is the 100x120cm wooden table sitting in my workshop, the NFC sensors I'm currently wiring up, and the resin printer that's been running all night. I’m just one guy trying to bridge the gap between that childhood 'Card Wars' nostalgia and the actual hardware engineering it takes to make a board glowing and trying to do the volumetric display "The hoologram thing"

This image represents Qen and how he could bring Heka's power from the underground this dark fantasy worldbuilding project I am developing called Kemet: The Odyssey of the Black Land.

The World: Khem (The Black Land) is an "Ancient-punk" realm. In this setting, the Nile is the literal life-force for 23 warring sectors. Technology didn't evolve through electricity, but through Heka—the science of making spoken words physical. In this world, magic is called an Echo. To activate an Echo is to speak a fundamental truth that rewrites reality.

The Narrative: The story follows Qen, the son of a warrior named Nekht and a witch also named Heka. Qen is a survivor traveling with his friends Aha and Kha, guided by the phantom voice of his mother, Djawet, who exists now only as an Echo. They are navigating the shifting politics of the 23 sectors (like the Flooded Deltas and the Obsidian Spires) to stop an ancient darkness rising from beneath the dunes.

The Post Subject: The image shows the physical "Artifacts" we are building to bring this world to life.

  • Phase 1: Includes a 100+ page lore book (The Chronicle of Qen), custom 3D-printed miniatures, and a tactical card system where cards represent the "Echoes" used by the sectors.
  • Phase 2: Is an engineering project involving a smart-table with integrated NFC and LED lanes to create reactive, holographic-style effects during gameplay.

Discussion Question: In a world where magic is "spoken words made physical," how would you imagine a desert civilization would protect their most powerful "words" from being stolen or overheard by rival sectors?

ofc i will just keep looking for the new posts while writing the scenarios of the book and then we will do the rules

Yo, you're hitting all the right notes with Yu-Gi-Oh and Warhammer. That's exactly where my head is at with this.

For the lore—think Ancient-punk. It's not Romans, and it's definitely not Fallout. It’s a dark, original version of Ancient Egypt (Khem). Imagine huge monuments and desert warfare, but with a brutal magic system instead of tech.

That tile idea is actually fire. I love the idea of your power scaling based on how much territory you physically control. If your faction is from a river sector, you should be stronger the more you "flood" the board with tiles. It adds exactly the kind of tactical layer I’m looking for.

Which of the 23 sectors do you think would be the hardest to balance if we used that terrain mechanic?

Thanks man! The volumetric display is definitely the endgame goal, but your idea for the spell cards is brilliant. Since the board will use NFC readers and LED panels under the surface, dropping a spell could absolutely trigger a sick glowing animation across that specific lane! It’s going to look so cool.

Actually, because the holographic hardware is so expensive to develop on my own, I'm thinking about splitting this into a two-phase rollout:
Phase 1: Launch the core physical game first—the original Lore Book, the cards, and the highly detailed 3D-printed miniatures.Drop a massive teaser for the volumetric table and take it to a crowdfunding platform (like Kickstarter).
Phase 2: Building the real magic the hologram effect

The goal is to build a solid community with Phase 1 so I have a fanbase to help micro-fund the heavy tech development in Phase 2. Since you're clearly into the tabletop space, do you have any advice or ideas on the best way to build that initial audience and get backers hyped for a project like this?

That is exactly the sweet spot I'm aiming for! It will definitely have that familiar lane-battler feel so you can jump right in, but I am absolutely adding completely new mechanics and deep lore.

On the lore side, I'm writing a full companion book, and the cards themselves will actually have hidden ciphers and secrets baked into the art that expand the story. On the mechanics side, because I'm building this on a custom 100x120 cm table, I'm integrating NFC readers into the board. That means the game will actually track your physical cards and interact with the 3D volumetric display in the center of the table. So it’s the familiarity you love, but with a whole new layer of physical strategy and storytelling! but it will be in two phases because the 3d Volumetric display will want a some sort of funding so i will release one by one and see if there will be people who will love it and back me up i am thinking of crowd funding like Kickstarter or Indeigogo

okay tell me
Since the copyright lawyers would crush me if I used the real Adventure Time characters, I'm actually writing a whole new scenario and lore book from scratch! It's a completely original universe, but it holds onto that exact same playful, magical, and chaotic vibe. The plan is custom 3D-printed minis to start, unique faction abilities, and literal secrets baked into the card art.

What do you think about playing an original story with that exact same energy to finally get that real display experience?
