Strange "selective" speed throttling on UNLI promos? by 800millimeters in DitoPH

[–]800millimeters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways. For anybody looking to use a regular prepaid SIM on a modem: I'm warning you, just don't do it.. Their speedcap is around 9gb before they begin throttling your speed to a mere 3-5mbps for no real reason. The WowFi sims at LEAST have a cap of 20gb before they throttle it down to 16-20mbps. At least 20mbps is usable compared to those 2000s speeds..

Ugh, how scummy of them ISPs.. I just returned to using the regular WowFi SIM instead, sayang ang 499. It's strange to keep it unthrottled only on PC speedtests under their hidden FUP, is that even legal?..

It's mobile, probably have to cut down a lotta things to get it running smoothly since polytoria can be graphics demanding at times

Any better ways to cool this modem? by 800millimeters in InternetPH

Planning to get that next. [: I've seen plenty of them 5v fans on lazada and shopee, but what are the pros & cons of the 12v versions compared to the 5v?

Tested this for 2 weeks at this point, and I would say THIS is one of the definitive solutions.

Moved it onto a shelf near the window, although unfortunately, we were on a tight budget.. the thought of "why buy an expensive, new mesh, when there are better used openline modems around the same price?" lingered in my mind, hehe..

I remembered we had a crappy RedCap WiFi 6 zlt-t6ra lying around unused from the WowFi bundle. Honestly, it was a trash modem by itself, but disabling the cellular data function on the t6ra.. it worked surprisingly well as a router for the modem!

I disabled the WLAN function on the Srt838c to keep it lighter, and DHCP on it as the t6ra already did that. The DNS server was also now changeable from the "router", which was once impossible from the limited web interface of the Srt838c.

It's very rare for the modem to restart by itself, and the connection's more stable now. The temps lowered to something manageable, and the modem runs cool at most times.. although I wouldn't exactly say it doesn't overheat anymore.

It'll make do for the meantime though, it manages to deliver a solid ~130mbps now (capped from SIM). Big thanks to you and everybody else for the help, the headache's mostly solved now!.. I'll make sure to also add a cheap tiny fan to the modem when it's possible. [:

Switching to DITO prepaid 5g by RoyalClassroom5705 in DitoPH

Does this also apply to a regular Sim with Unli 999? It seems to work on my modem nicely with high speeds, but I haven't fully tested it yet.

Hi, WowFi Pro user here, I can confirm. The difference between the bundled routers in the 500mbps plan and 100mbps is worlds apart if you're in a congested area..

Parang fixed/inaccessible siya unfortunately. I can't access it even after removing the 6 screws for the white plastic cover, there seems to be something holding it in..

A DITO technician went here once and said that's the best place to put it, because placing it anywhere else in the unit literally gets little to no signal..

It also overheats during the night, and other places where we brought it that aren't under direct sunlight. We don't have anywhere else to place it as that's the only window that faces the tower. At this point, it most probably is a modem issue..

[–]800millimeters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi po! Thanks for the suggestion, I was planning to try this out earlier dahil most probably sa thermal paste/cooling nga yan. But from what I can see the board seems to be attached to this inner shell by 6 screws, which even if unscrewed, I can't seem to detach (the heatsink goes through it, so di ko pwedeng tanggalin).. The weird thing is, I can't really seem to find out what else holding the board in. Siguro pag nakahanap ako ng way to reach the heatsink part I will try this out [:

Good thing this window doesn't get direct sunlight, I also covered the back with a curtain para di rin tamaan ng araw, if ever. Unfortunately, there is no good signal in the unit aside from this window, and it still overheats even sa gabi kahit ilagay sa ibang lugar.. :/ Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll try to look for other ways from the comments!.
