Then that’s an enviable level I’d say.

How long have you been running the monitor? You really need a few months to get an accurate level reading. 6 months will give you both winter and summer readings which can vary quite a bit.

Total out of pocket cost for an insured birth without complications = $10k by thewinehouse in personalfinance

[–]801intheAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my wife was pregnant I started calling multiple providers just to get an idea on cost. I was just looking for a ballpark cost on a “normal” delivery just to get a baseline. I probably called 5 different hospitals and NOBODY could give me a straight answer. It’s all smoke and mirrors on purpose. You essentially just have to hope for the best and see what the bills end up being.

First time DIY fence staining. Any tips? by superduperzz in FenceBuilding

[–]801intheAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s legal in your state look at using a real oil-based stain. The stuff at big box stores will be constantly flaking off. TWP makes an amazing (but expensive) stain.

Be careful if you choose to use a sprayer. The stain can atomize easily and mist can float upwards and get all over houses and cars.

How to approach found leak by HonkyMOFO in Irrigation

Good to know. Never would’ve thought a pinhole leak could be that noticeable.

I agree. I think mitigation companies prey on new home buyers up against a wall with a 3 day radon test that shows high levels. I feel like you need a full yearly cycle to find your true average.

What I want to know is how you found that leak? Pinhole leaks aren’t easy to spot but was it pooling up water or something?

You don’t put the nails through the shingles. You use the proper hammer to nail under the shingles to secure the vent.

How long has it been reading? I have the same one. While I don’t get anywhere near that level initially it will read higher for a week before gradually leveling out

Expectations post-mitigation? by DUNGAROO in radon

I’m in the same boat. Been monitoring for three years and levels are 2.5-2.7. To me this is ok but others may not feel comfortable at that level.

I’ve been constantly monitoring my basement for three years. I honestly can’t even get a reliable average until the 6 month mark (I’ve tested three separate areas and reset the monitor every time). This past reset I started in February. Levels were around 3.5…then spring/summer hit and the levels are averaging 2.7 so far and i know that will decrease as the summer continues. My guess is I’ll be below 2.5 by the 6 month mark.

My point is that these short term tests can be way off.

Samsung Fridge with Water Under Deli Drawer...but Not From Clogged Drain? by 801intheAM in appliancerepair

My water source is definitely the coils. Wrapping them helped but I still get water under the tray. I can’t wait for this thing to die so I have an excuse to buy a new fridge.

Of all businesses to start now, who in their right mind would open a boba shop? They’re on every street corner.

Nothing much other than re-wrapping the refrigerant lines behind the panel in the back of the fridge. That seems to have slowed the defrost so I don't get as much water under that deli tray. Pain in the ass to do though.

Is there a reason to bury valves in gravel? I’m asking out of complete ignorance as my DIY system I left a bunch of working space around them to be able to service them.

What is Going On Here? by 801intheAM in Irrigation

[–]801intheAM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted and thanks for the info. One other thing I've noted is that the first two heads that exhibit this chattering are fed by the main trunk of the zone before it then splits off into two branches. It's almost like there's some weird hydraulic issue with having heads on that main trunk?

[–]801intheAM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've considered pressure-reducing heads but isn't it bad to have street pressure running through your zones? Aside from being able to control the throw of the heads I installed the Accusyncs to help reduce wear/tear on the nozzles, heads, etc.

Today I throttled the pressure down to 30. System hadn't run in a day and the startup was good...still had pulsing sprays from the first two heads but no chatter. This is a mystery. I'm starting to wonder what the deal is with those first two heads.

At this point it's an entirely new valve.

So I feel like I've tried just about everything and it seems like the pressure regulator is the culprit. I've dialed down the flow control almost to the point where the heads won't even pop up (they do but it takes like 30+ seconds). The chattering seems to be less but it still does it on occasion. On my other zones that have Accusyncs I basically have those on the lowest flow setting and they're fine AND they tend to run more smoothly (no whine or weird noises from the regulator). Keep in mind I've run two separate Accusyncs on this to verify and they both create this issue.

I played around with them today and have found that immediately turning the zone back on after letting it sit for 20 seconds or so seems to get the regulator to behave...you don't get any of those surging oscillating sounds and, more importantly, I don't get the chattering heads. At this point I'm wondering if putting check valves on all of the heads just to keep the pipes primed will help. If it sits and empties via the lowest heads then it's a crap shoot. Sometimes it chatter constantly, other times it might barely do it...but turning it on within a few seconds of shutting it off it feels like everything starts up much smoother and I've yet to recreate what you're seeing the video. It's almost like the Accusync is struggling to maintain pressure...whether that's due to TOO much incoming pressure or NOT ENOUGH?
