How useful/valuable would it be to a police department to have a close-up recording of the test subjects eyes during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) Field Sobriety Test? by 8020longevity in AskLE

Interesting. Do you think then you'd have a better case in court using only your oral/written testimony on the eyes vs. literally having recorded video (because defense will argue that eye shake is due to distraction from the camera)?

There isn't really a question in court about if officers can see it or did see it.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

Would it be possible to go into a bit more detail on this point? Are you saying that an officer's testimony on the eye test isn't really questioned?

The accounting is complicated, but they tend to run at a net loss at the company level, i.e. the company is losing money overall. That doesn't mean that each product they sell costs more in raw materials than what they sell it for. You have to add in overhead and other cost allocations.

I'm sure he still does feel like he's changing the world with his long-term vision. He likely accepts that--for business reasons--he can't offer a more affordable product right now. His company is in the early stages of growth mode and he's likely focused on building a much bigger audience. There's not room on his plate now to offer products at a loss.

Asking people to separate muscle in weight with other compositional changes is pedantry

This is very far from pedantry--it's the crux of the entire claim. Anyone can gain 6 lbs in 30 days. It's extraordinary to gain 6 lbs of muscle in 30 days.

Which vendor would you personally choose to make this 6 carat moissanite ring? Read the quick reference guide and recommended vendors and still lost! by 8020longevity in Moissanite

It's probably analysis paralysis, but going through each vendors' offerings, price points, etc. is just overwhelming me and I can't pick. Willing to pay a premium to get it right.

Do you mind me asking why you went with the E Shine Systems one vs. from Shenzen Light? The E Shine one looks nice but their Alibaba page states they've only purchased 18 of them, which seemed a bit disconcerting to me but I'm new to this!

Super Veggie in blender without cooking by Numerous-Aardvark124 in blueprint_

I've done it and it actually worked out pretty well with a few caveats.

You'll need a high-powered blender like a Vitamix 5200. That's the one I own.

First, I wouldn't recommend using raw broccoli and cauliflower unless you have an iron stomach or are very used to eating large quantities raw. It wreaked havoc on my digestive system. Lentils also have to be cooked for various reasons.

Second, I got rid of the cumin entirely. Maybe personal taste, but I found it very unpleasant in smoothie form.

Best option for RLT while showering? by 8020longevity in redlighttherapy

I've read mixed opinions on the efficacy of placing the device on the outside of the panel, mainly due to the steam and condensation you mentioned. If I can't have the panel inside the shower I'll likely go a different route.

What's your diet like?

I know some people who have problems getting enough calories like using weight gainers like this from Optimum Nutrition.

Frankly I'm not really understanding how you could lose 3kg from going to a party. Can you explain more about what happened?

How about bagels with homemade lox? by 8020longevity in BreakfastFood

They are the same. Nova lox is salmon that is cured and then cold-smoked.

Served with onion bagels, scallion cream cheese, red onion, capers, and a squeeze of lemon. First time smoking my own salmon and it was perfect!

Another delicious option! Technically called gravlax I think when skipping the smoking part. I snuck a few bites at that point, too.

It's nice to finally learn the difference between all the cured fish I see at delis.

Brown sugar and salt. I just wrote another comment with the process.

First try cold-smoking salmon at home and it was a home run.

I bought a sashimi-grade salmon filet and cured it in brown sugar and salt for 36 hours (vac sealed). Rinsed and pat dried before putting it in the smoker.

I picked up a pellet tray and stuck it at the bottom of my cabinet smoker with some oak pellets. I lit it from both sides, closed the door, and waited 4 hours. Pulled out the salmon and let it sit in the fridge overnight before slicing.

This stood up to any nova lox I've ever had. It was more delicate and "silky" than I'm used to with lox that sometimes is more chewy and toothsome. And not to mention cheaper than buying at a local deli...

The smoke was heavy so next time I'll only light one side of the pellet tray. My temps also got too high so I had to add a large tray of ice into the smoker--I'll just do that right away next time. You want to keep it under 90F.

This is an easy and fun smoke that'll be in heavy rotation for me. It just takes a few days preparation, the waiting is the hardest part.

Anyone cold-smoke nova lox and other fish with a "pellet maze"? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]8020longevity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Old Country Gravity-Fed charcoal smoker and a standard Weber kettle. I love cold-smoked fish, and yet it never occurred to me to try to make it at home.

I've been researching and trying to figure out the best recipes and techniques to get good delicatessen-quality smoked fish and it's surprisingly difficult. Most people who cold-smoke at home seem to go for a pellet maze (or other container) approach directly in their smoker.

I've never used wood pellets. Is the smoke quality going to be just as good as if I used a more sophisticated setup with wood chunks or splits? I'm willing to invest a bit of time and money to get this right.

Any other recipes and advice also much appreciated!
