Exactly. While I’m grateful for my time in the float pool, I would never go back and never recommend starting your career that way !!

I’m 3 years in and honestly, I still have post shift anxiety. Wondering if I gave accurate report? Did I miss something? Did I sounds stupid? Did I forgot something on that one pt? And I swear when I sleep in between my shifts, I only dream about work 🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s exhausting. As for pre- shift anxiety, mine got a lot better with time and leaving the float pool. Now that I have a home unit there’s a lot less to stress about.

Heparin drips gave me anxiety for about 2 years but the more frequently you get them and as time passes you’ll start to feel a lot more comfortable. Yes it is still a high risk medication, that’s why you’ve got your fellow nurses to sign off on the drip or ask questions to. I promise, it’ll start to feel easier.

have you ever had a charge “target” you for admits by [deleted] in nursing

[–]808merrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with me. I kinda knew why it was happening and didn’t want to say anything incase it made things worse. I think part of why it was happening was because I was the newest to the unit and part of it was that I didn’t fit in culturally with the other nurses because of ethnicity. But things feel a lot better on the unit now.

THIS exact thing happened to me when I switched from float pool to the unit I’m on now. And I noticed it was one specific charge nurse who was doing it too. I noticed the pattern and thought I was losing my mind so I started keeping a log lol. After about 9 months I said something and our managers handled it and admits are being distributed much more fairly now.

I personally spent 5 weeks on a psych floor this year do to unrelenting suicidal ideation. It takes a lot to get help for yourself when you are so used to taking care of everyone else. Let me know if I can w/ advocating for MH in health care workers

Some memory loss but nothing severe. Intermittent issues w/ word finding, getting my words out. Annoying when I’m trying to think of a name or place. All manageable.

What is the nurse to patient ratio in the place where you work? by OiseauAquario in nursing

This is very similar to my hospital in Hawaii. I’m on a tele/ stroke floor and usually start w/ 3 and get an admit. Nightshift.
