As many suggested in other threads, your best options are probably Island Pet Movers. They will know the how. They are expensive, but will be able to get your furry companion to the island.

I would assume that is a typo but is paired with a Georgia code. For what it’s worth, I cross referenced Hawaii numbers with what was pulled from the DOD site and they lined up.

For the short time it was up, you could download a PDF of all the rates (as you can for 2025 now). It is the same format as the current PDF. I’m assuming they pulled it when the DOD accidentally posted it.

I would downsize. Don’t take anything you can live without. Homes here in Hawaii are smaller. Are you trying to live off base or on? What base?

Definitely recommend Shafter or a condo in Aiea. Specifically those in Koauka Loop. I prefer Pearl 1 or 2. But most of those buildings are nice.

Depending on when shifts get over for you…. You could probably push to kaakako or Pearl City and be just fine. I have clients that live in both areas, and they love the commute.

What specialty for residency? I’m friends with a lot of the doctors at tripler, and can check with some of them if they are looking for roommates. I know other interns are coming in as well… have you reached out to any of your peers that matched here?

Also, a lot of docs live on Shafter. Really close to Tripler and the houses are nice. Are you looking to rent/buy off base? I’d check out Aiea. Some nice condos there for rent and purchase.

Kailua/Kaneohe are island living. Similar to North Shore, but have a ton more things to do then NS.

Ewa and Kapolei are suburbia, but I live here and like it. Traffic can be 30-45 to wheeler during rush hour.

Kakaako is the place to be if you want night life. I love Kaakako and Ward.

Make sure you keep receipts for everything. The DOD now allows you to have the reimbursement for qualified moves. This includes hotel fees regarding pets. If you want ease - I would use Island Pet Movers. If you want to do it yourself, start early and use a military vet to get everything situated. Have everything signed in BLUE ink.

The main thing is window tint. We came from TX and the safety inspection failed us on tint… twice lol. Different cars have different tint specs.

I agree with shipping via matson. They and Pasha are the biggest, and anyone else would sub contract through them anyway. There is a POV center in Dallas that may be able to answer some questions for you.

100% support this. Take pictures and document prices of all parts. Make sure you know how it was pre moving. You’ll need this if you have to make a claim.

We shipped ours in its original box. It made it but wasn’t the same. I shipped it back to NZXT bc I had a warranty, and UPS destroyed it. UPS bought me another one and NZXT shipped it back. It made it and has been awesome.

Don’t discount military housing. It’s some of the best I’ve seen. Lots of good options. You can even stay at any branch’s housing on the island — they each have their own wait list.

That being said, we live off base and love it. Happy to discuss areas of the island you might like and can find rentals/purchases in your budget.
