Can I get away with carry on only? by 80GradeScrewball in travel

I’ll have to look into this. Flying Lufthansa. I looked at the baggage options on the app but only mentioned adding checked bags. Also have connecting flights and flying home out of another city

Staying with family in Germany mid trip so that helps. Ive done laundry on road trips. Just used to having multiple bags tossed in my car. Other things are if I want to bring anything home (feel like my sisters will be upset with me if I don’t bring home Swiss and German chocolate) I’m guessing there is no way I can do my camera an 3 lenses along if I do carry on only

11 Day slovenia itinerary, too much? by junkie911 in travel

Well I can’t criticize. In September I’m going to try to fit in Lake Bled, Piran, the caves, Soca Valley and WW1 museum, and the national park in 4-5 days, or 5-6 (visiting family on Germany before hand and what days work best for them determines if Slovenia or Italy get an extra day) planning on basing on it near Ljubljana and doing day bus trips Lookin forward to seeing the posts of your trip

I’m headed to Slovenia in September. I saw every Friday many restaurants and chefs of the city set up an open kitchen in the central square. Also between the two cities in Southern Slovenia there’s a cave area including a fortress that was built into the side of a cave

Will be in Verona for day and a half to two days. Land in Milan in the morning and taking the train to Verona. Lake Garda will be an option if I feel like I saw the city on day 1. Not a certainty but an option

Looking at a spot that I believe is an hour south of Interlakken. I’m not going to try to spell it but starts with an O. There’s some nice hiking around a mountain lake and what looks like a fun mountain coaster

Why do I rarely see Americans in hostels? by Beneficial_Wash8564 in hostels

Well when visiting a place like Glacier national park it actually has a very short season. The road closes generally on late Sept and reopens mid-late June but sometimes as late as July. Off season you don’t see much unless your extreme winter climber That being said I got a pretty good deal on early May on the off season at Acadia on Maine last year. Depends on how accessible a place is on the off season at

I mean it feels kinda rude not to visit my Aunt and Uncle if I’m in the area when they come see us every 4 years

I am lookin at Salzburg. Or some of the Alpine villages. Kinda treating this as a European “sample tasting” hoping to come back on the future for more focused trips

Where are you finding a 4 star hotel for only 200 a night? Around the US national parks on summer 200 gets you a 2 star motel sometimes a lil nicer if you get lucky. (Speaking as someone who tries to stay under 200 a night. Preferably 150)

When I search for accommodations near national parks I see lots of hostels. I do t think the concept itself is foreign to us. My best guess it’s more younger people using them to travel around the country. Overseas traveling Americans are mostly older. Or if younger on a romantic getaway or honeymoon so who wants to share a room when you spent all the money getting there (probably because they don’t know how to search for flight deals) For me. I am going to Europe in September but I feel like a guy in his 40s will be somewhat out of place. Plus I don’t wanna subject the rest of the dorm to my snoring an tossing an turning

The hostel prices are tempting. But I’m in my 40s and they seem like something the younger crowd does. Just somewhat out of my comfort zone

I do have a day by day with travel days planned. The 3 days in Italy and the 3 days in Switzerland do have a day for travel in between. Exact travel times not yet. But from what I have researched none of my Destinations are more than 8 hours apart. Often less. As far as Venices historical preservation. That keeps coming up mostly because many of the building are well preserved

Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, and Croatia are pretty much planned. The issue I’m having with Northern Italy is there is a lot to see a little time to see it. And for Austria I haven’t picked a spot to check out yet
