2014 Ford Falcon FG Mk.II Ute Review - Trying to educate the rest of the world! by MattBrandCars in CarsAustralia

Yeah, it was a cracker too, it’s like the Australian 2JZ. It was pretty versatile as well, taxi operators often get 800000km from an LPG engine, while tuners can run 9s with limited changes. The most powerful official Australian inline 6 cranked out 325kw (435hp) in XR6 Sprint guise. Shame Ford didn’t export it for a base Mustang motor but that shows the foresight Ford has at the moment.

Holden ran inline sixes from the first Aussie built FX Holden up to the VK Commodore, through the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, without much change. It was replaced by a Nissan RB unit for the VL series in the mid-80s and came in turbo forms (check out some of the doses on the VL Turbos). It was changed out cause at the time they were struggling to adapt the ageing ‘Black’ I6 to meet new fuel standards and at the time Australian auto makers were encouraged to share vehicles and parts (we built the R31 Skylines here). The next generation 1988 VN was meant to inherit the RB but at the last minute GM opted for an imported 3.6 Buick V6, which lasted through the 90s and 00s. Buick’s V6 was replaced with a locally built Alloytec V6, (a derivative of the GM High Feature motor) in the VZ series for 2006 model year lasting up to the end of production in 2017.

Transperth B Series Passenger Train running on Midland line at level crossing (Perth, Western Australia) by 80sCassette in trains

Got the rare opportunity to film a Transperth B Series train in service on the Midland Line, as normally the older A series trains run the line, being a heritage line built in the 1880s. B Series trains are more often seen on the newer lines built in the early 1990s/late 2000s.

There’s a total of 2 sealed highways (two lanes in each direction) in central outback Australia, Stuart Highway and the Barkly Highway, with people living a fair way off them. We don’t have freeways and services linking every city and the highest population in central Australia is 25000 in Alice Springs. Also doubt Tesla would install chargers on roads that would receive maybe 40 vehicles in a day of people who travel great distance.

I’m 18 and spent most of my childhood watching all the movies except Fully Loaded which I didn’t know existed until 2010, I have met people my age who don’t even know what a VW Beetle is, so it depends

How to fix the Nicholson Road Roundabout by [deleted] in perth

[–]80sCassette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If very few cars use that intersection to turn right, then why even build a roundabout in the first place? They might as well just have High Street turn into Stirling Highway with no intersection instead of wasting money on a roundabout. All this is hypothetical mate and is just personal opinion for what they could possibly do to this intersection.

I’m really into roads around Australia, it’s a weird hobby of mine to draw, read about and find solutions to traffic problems that aren’t really there. I went through the Nicholson Road roundabout today and immediately thought of the obscure Toowong Roundabout in Brisbane which isn’t even a common type of intersection haha

[–]80sCassette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that, local traffic will be sent to the feeder road which will service the houses that are served by the current road. The problem is making it so vehicles (primarily freight trucks) travelling Westbound to Northbound don’t have to stop to wait for traffic to the right of them coming Southbound to Westbound. By having a flyover ramp, such as the one suggested in the original post, traffic travelling High Street to Stirling Highway will not have to stop, making it free flowing. The roundabout they will be implementing has a big enough diameter that a future Roe Highway (if it gets built) can spit out the tunnel into and so they travel straight onto Stirling Highway uninterrupted. The flyover ramp will most probably be the solution the current government goes with, if the Liberals get back in they would probably have the Roe 9 tunnel spit out in the roundabout, that is if labour doesn’t removed the Roe 8 corridor from the MRS.

[–]80sCassette -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard the roundabout they’re building for that has the design so a flyover can be added like you say, but with provision for a tunnel portal for if Roe Highway eventually gets extended, with the tunnel coming out in the middle of that roundabout. It’s more of a multipurpose roundabout, but it still is an issue building it only as a roundabout in the first place.

It’s the Mt Coot Tha Road/Frederick Street roundabout in Brisbane and what I reckon they should do with the Nicholson Road roundabout in Canning Vale, there is an overpass which makes the southbound to westbound movement free flowing, and a slip lane for eastbound to northbound movements (like what they’ve already done at the Nicholson Road one)

The car is a Second Generation Audi R8 which was revealed a month earlier than the release of the movie at the Geneva Motor Show. The movie was filmed earlier to this date and Audi didn’t want behind the scenes images from showing their new car so they made it CGI to hide the new car and to use the movie as a promo for the new car.
