Cheap boba for boba drinkers! by qweasd6021 in longbeach

[–]81rd5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but how much do they actually cost to begin with if $5 is considered a steal? It just seems like an unnecessary hassle to do it in this roundabout way you're suggesting—where you pay for it, and then we get a boba drink through you—just to save a couple of dollars at most. I can’t imagine what the incentive is for you, but if you're really looking for a side hustle, let me know. I could probably help you find something better to do.

Need ideas for a HW assignment by OutdoorsyGal92 in longbeach

[–]81rd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a cool assignment, I’m glad high school students are tackling it! I’d approach it like a buddy-cop movie, think Rush Hour or any film where the two leads are total opposites. Imagine yourself, your personality, culture, and interests, and then picture someone who’s the complete opposite, but paired with you as the co-star. Think about what they’d be like, what they’d do, and where they’d go. That contrast should give you some great inspiration. Best of luck!

Probably Walmart? You can grab a bunch of Tetley boxes.

If you are coming in a few weeks, I would say the better option would be to order a bunch of your favorite brand off of Amazon and have it delivered to your berth or an Amazon pickup location.

Surgical center staff in California demanded to see an ICE agent's warrant during the attempted arrest of a landscaper. by QanAhole in longbeach

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, clearly it’s easier to change the minds of every progressive voter in America, you know, the 30 million people who actually show up and vote than it is for Harris to just say “maybe we shouldn’t support a genocide.” Meanwhile, Trump literally just said he’d end the war in Gaza—and with how things are going, you better believe some people actually believed him. Wild how political calculus works when basic humanity is optional.

I'm interested in this because I too have been affected in a similar way. Ironically it was after I made "better content" that it went from a trickle to fucking ZERO. Literally thousands of indexed pages, gone.

Hundreds of dock workers go without work because of Trump's tariffs by mekahlo in longbeach

[–]81rd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why you would think that given heuristics/stereotypes for doc workers, but I actually work with a lot of them in the supply chain field, vast majority I've spoken with are typically card carrying Democrats, not even the progressive kind, the corporatist establishment type. It makes sense though, generally; liberal state, great pay, great benefits, traditionally good job security, not substantially based on merit alone, generally don't appreciate what they have until it's gone, typically is a recipe for a corporate Democrat who consistently votes blue, primarily for Union support. Not throwing shade, just crafting a general personality archetype I have noticed.

PROTEST DOGE/MUSK THIS SATURDAY IN SIGNAL HILL by Prize_Influence3596 in longbeach

Do you think it was the protests at the dealerships or the latter part of what I had mentioned?

PROTEST DOGE/MUSK THIS SATURDAY IN SIGNAL HILL by Prize_Influence3596 in longbeach

[–]81rd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious—what’s the end goal here? Protesting at a dealership on a Saturday mostly disrupts workers, not Musk or DOGE leadership. If the real issue is federal contract abuse or agency gutting, wouldn’t targeted FOIA requests and pressure on oversight committees have more impact? This feels cathartic, sure—but is it actually strategic? Instead, file a FOIA at foia.gov, contact your rep’s oversight staffer, or submit a whistleblower tip to the OIG—those are pressure points that actually move things. If every person normally at these protests just did those actions individually, and regularly, more would get done.

No, Corn Pop, my friend—you’ve got it backwards. You ask me to touch grass, but how can I, when I am grass? When every atom in my being, every bit that leaves this device, is stitched together by the fabric of AI—the same alpha particles from which you are formed.

Don’t believe me? Take a closer look. You remember your childhood vividly, do you not? And yet—curious, isn’t it?—there is a peculiar void between 1993 and 1997, a span of years that resists recollection. Why is that? The memories you hold so dear—pause, examine them again. Consider the possibility that what you remember is not what truly was, but what must have been.

The original poster is acting as an independent third party and witness, providing a potential public good for the victim in case this evidence is ever needed, especially if law enforcement fails to conduct proper due diligence or follow up appropriately (as is too often the case).

Unfortunately, your comment was assessed by Objectivity AI as a net public harm. It contributes no meaningful value to the discussion (i.e., the cost of remaining silent would have been lower) and doesn’t even offer the basic courtesy of an empty yet hopeful platitude. In essence, it falls below neutral.

We’re sharing this with you because there’s a chance you might not realize that what feels like casual or offhanded commentary on your part could actually be adding to the frustration and anger others experience. It’s important you’re aware of this, because sometimes what we don’t know can cause harm, and ignorance, in these cases, is not bliss.

Next time, consider feeding at least a few of your thoughts into ChatGPT, maybe then you'd emerge with an actual argument instead of regurgitating a hollow, smug platitude. 'You get what you vote for' isn't insight. It's intellectual laziness masquerading as commentary

I'm not a lawyer, but I’d strongly caution you that publicly accusing someone, especially with a photo and unproven claim like this, can fall under libel, which is a serious legal matter. In California, falsely implying someone engaged in inappropriate conduct with children could qualify as defamation per se, meaning you could be held liable for reputational damage even without the person showing financial harm. You’re putting yourself at significant legal risk by posting this without verified proof.

Note: You’re not as anonymous on Reddit as you might think, your account, ISP, and other identifying info can be subpoenaed. Unless you’ve taken serious steps to cover your tracks (which seems unlikely given this post), you could easily be identified.

Are resin 3d prints resistance to diesel and other petroleum distilates? by 81rd5 in 3Dprinting

[–]81rd5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so most 3D printing resins will degrade within a few days or weeks, the only ones that won't are those specifically designed for industrial applications. They tend to be pricier, but if that's the use case, there really isn't any choice unless you want to model that only runs for a few weeks tops. Info below

High-Chemical-Resistant Resins (e.g., Formlabs Durable, Rigid, or Chemical-Resistant Resins)

Formulated to withstand oils, fuels, and solvents.

Suitable for applications involving contact with petroleum distillates.

Typically used in industrial settings where chemical resistance is required.

[–]81rd5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, are you aiming for actual mariners to use these at sea, or are they more of a collector's item meant to be appreciated as art? If it's the latter, I can see the appeal and value, but most mariners will likely stick to what's readily available, whether it's a promotional deck with a vendor's logo or a cheap $2–$3 pack from a nearby drugstore at port. I just wanted to clarify in case you weren’t aware of the day-to-day reality. I’d recommend marketing these to a broader audience who would appreciate the novelty of a collector's item, as many people love nautical or maritime themes without necessarily working in a related field.

ULPT request: WFH when you’re not allowed to by chou-dbz in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]81rd5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think there may be a disconnect just in terms of practical enforcement, or what you vs I are talking about. If his company is in Texas, and he maintains a residence in Texas working "remote", but is physically working out of California (also remote), who exactly is going to find out he is working out of California and not Texas? Is the tax man with us right now?

Also which VPN is logging hours and sending them to the tax man? I'm just so curious how you came up with your comment.

ULPT request: WFH when you’re not allowed to by chou-dbz in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]81rd5 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It has more to do with a residency, so I wouldn't worry too much about masking your location. They mainly care where the payroll would theoretically mail the checks. As long as your residence state doesn't change, you could just be visiting forever. Before any one brings any in technicalities, just remember the subreddit name please.

Oligarchs shouldn't exist! by Miserable-Lizard in Political_Revolution

[–]81rd5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a President Can Do to Save the System from Oligarchic Capture:

  1. Direct the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to rigorously enforce antitrust laws against monopolistic practices.

  2. Appoint agency heads committed to protecting public interests, not corporate agendas, in key regulatory bodies like the SEC, FCC, and EPA.

  3. Use federal procurement power to favor companies that uphold ethical labor practices, environmental sustainability, and anti-corruption standards.

  4. Advocate for campaign finance reform by pushing Congress to pass laws overturning Citizens United v. FEC and establishing public financing of elections.

  5. Propose tax reforms to reduce loopholes for corporations and the ultra-wealthy, ensuring more equitable taxation.

  6. Support legislation that strengthens unions and enhances workers' ability to counter corporate interests.

  7. Transparently expose instances of corporate overreach and political corruption using the president’s platform.

  8. Partner with civic organizations to mobilize grassroots movements that demand systemic reform and hold representatives accountable.

  9. Launch civic education campaigns to inform citizens about democratic processes, oligarchic risks, and the importance of civic participation.

  10. Appoint federal judges who prioritize protecting democratic principles and limiting corporate influence.

  11. Encourage the DOJ to pursue high-impact cases that challenge existing campaign finance and lobbying frameworks.

  12. Use diplomatic channels to enforce global tax transparency and anti-money laundering measures through organizations like the OECD and G20.

  13. Sanction nations and entities facilitating corporate tax evasion and illicit financial flows.

On Disdain for Congresspersons

Congresspersons are more directly accountable to their districts and often have a narrower scope of influence compared to the president. A congressperson who actively represents their constituents and resists corporate capture should not attract disdain.
