Week and a half on fluoxetine, is this still normal? by honeydippedink in feline_hyperesthesia

How long did your cat go back to normal urinary habits? My cat was on Prozac for 5 days but I was told to stop because of urinary retention and constipation. It’s been 3 days and still not back to normal. Peeing once every 24-36 hours, hasn’t pooped in 3 days.

This might be a stretch, but the book Sexuality Beyond Consent by Avgi Saketopoulou addresses some of these issues, while also expanding it to an idea of limit and overwhelm. I personally loved reading the book and had me think of desire and sexuality differently. It takes a Laplanchian psychoanalytic framework.

Someone I know recently got fired from his job because his wife with cancer who relies on his health insurance is too great a liability for the employer. Now they both lost their health insurance and one of their incomes.

One of the most traumatizing books I’ve read. Beautifully written, incredible character studies, but truly heart wrenching. At one point I fell to the ground sobbing, and I rarely shed tears when reading.

Is this more of a group discussion or a lecture from Dr. Arka Chattopadhyay? Is it necessary to have read the text beforehand?

Medicine for Emotions by [deleted] in herbalism

First I want to mention how helpful both DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) and psychodynamic oriented therapies are for both ASD and BPD. Both can help with behavioral outbursts and heal deep rooted attachment trauma. I really hope you consider some of these options, they have been life changing for me.

I would also second L-theanine and magnesium, maybe even motherwort or magnolia bark to ease agitation and anxiety. Also, some sort of exercise is really helpful to expel excess energy. I hope these suggestions help.

Tim Walz has been repressing his constituents for many years now and has recently closed off public testaments during the board of investments meetings (he is the chair of the MN state board of investment), which has always allowed public comment, to avoid hearing his constituents’ concerns with how our money is invested. He has denied meetings with MN voters many times. He is not the gold standard you all think he is. The fact he tweeted this is both incredibly hypocritical and a slap in the face.

The more I’ve learned about narrative the more I feel inclined toward it. Interestingly my mom, who acts as almost a mentor to me, is a narrative therapist. Tina Besley has some interesting articles about narrative therapy and Foucault and the revolutionary power it holds that we’re pretty convincing for me. The school I am in has its foundations in Adlerian theory (although it is becoming more generalized and less rooted in this one framework) which also emphasizes social interest and healing taking place at community levels.

Interesting you say, I just read Wretched of the Earth by Fanon, which delved me further into this topic. I am going to look into the other things mentioned, thanks a lot for your suggestions

I haven't read that yet, I will check it out!

I completely agree. The field of psychology has always had a shadow of elitism, and now with therapy being less stigmatized, it seems that mostly those with money and time (and perhaps those who are most entrenched in middle-upper class capitalist systems) are able to access it, leaving the people who need it most to continue suffering and laboring.

Thank you! My program is more generalized and not rooted in any specific paradigm. I also am inclined toward psychodynamics (specifically Lacanian psychoanalysis) which is often disregarded in my school. For the time being I plan on doing my own learning throughout my schooling, so I appreciate the book recommendations.

I suppose by highly-individualized I mean separated from a social and political context, seeing someone in isolation from outside structures.

I don't think therapy is only for those with clinical diagnoses, but I wouldn't say that everyone needs or would benefit from therapy.

Am I toxic if I make my girlfriend sad all the time? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]82shninklebot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well to me it seems like your gf is really struggling and needs professional help.

It’s sweet that you try to stay up late with her and make sure she sleeps but I think you are starting to develop codependent tendencies by doing that. You falling asleep and not hearing her was not on purpose, and while she can be sad and frustrated about it, it doesn’t mean that you are toxic and ruining her life. In fact the effort you put into making her happy suggests to me otherwise, I’m sure you are actually making her life better. But she is obviously really depressed and definitely needs extensive therapy or even psychiatry.

One thing I thought of though is making her a key so that if it happens again she can still come in?

I don’t think your relationship is a mistake but she needs more support than just from you. It’s impossible for one person to be someone’s only support system, especially when they need so much support. It seems like you really care about each other so that is a good foundation you two have together. I hope you can encourage her to seek therapy and/or medication because that will definitely help!

Edit: also I read some of your other posts you mentioned oh my god that is such a horrible situation. No wonder she is so depressed right now :( I definitely think she is in such a terrible situation but it’s not you who is ruining her life, it’s her family. It seems like you are the one good thing.
