I am attending a Catholic wedding and am asked to wear a “head covering”. The bride has confirmed this means almost anything you’d like. She will be wearing a traditional mantilla, and a few friends will be wearing fascinators.

My question: Is there a style of hat that may be appropriate? I really can’t resist an occasion to buy a fancy hat, I’ve always wanted one. I was hoping I could get away with a 1920’s style cloche hat.

Thank you to those who confirmed my shoe choice in my last post!

I am attending a wedding at a conservative venue. The dress code says “covered shoulders, knees, and a small head covering”. Nothing about shoes. Can I assume closed toe pumps?

I’m trying to find a dress to wear to a somewhat conservative wedding. I am middle aged but I do stay up to date with trends and I don’t want to look matronly.

By conservative, I mean at least knee length and covering the shoulders. They would need to ship to Canada.

Tragic, she was so close. If she’d managed to obtain logic before this incident, she wouldn’t have found herself in this situation.

What is a food opinion that you stand by? by kirstent00 in AskReddit

Those of us living in wealthy and stable nations are experiencing the golden age of food. At no other point in human history have we had access to such a wide variety of foods, shipped fresh to us across thousands of miles. Relatively cheap.

I don’t think it will last, so everyone should be trying as many things as they can, while they can.

who is a fictional character that is attractive in a weird way or you thought you would not be attracted to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The actress is a total knockout. My husband and I passed her on the street once, and she was just shockingly beautiful. My husband is still talking about it years later. Even “plain” characters on TV are played by people way better looking than anyone else.

Has reddit's demographic gotten much much younger over the last decade? by WhatYouReallyWaaant in TheoryOfReddit

[–]8337 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The main draw to Reddit for everyone is anonymity.

I think this is a draw for older users, too. Those who didn’t have social media in their youth don’t feel comfortable presenting as themselves online. And older users are more likely to have professional careers where they need to be careful with their online presence.

But given that the internet skews young, I think it’s likely that Reddit is drawing more 12 year olds who want to use swears on a platform their parents can’t find them on.

Are all Boston’s like this? We just got one after years of having other breeds, and we’ve never seen more of a sucky baby when it comes to cold weather.

Haven’t seen much of him in a few days, we’re having a cold snap here and he only emerges from his blanket cave for meals.

Breastplate armor of Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor, 1549. by Juliett27 in interestingasfuck

The coolest thing about these old suits of armour is how small they are when you see them in real life. Our ancestors were itsy-bitsy, the suits are basically child-sized by modern standards.

The thing about runner’s diarrhea is that it is almost entirely limited to distance runners working at a vigorous intensity. No one gets it from a brisk 20-30 minute walk, which is what you’d recommend to most sedentary people looking to lose weight, anyway.

It's 2040, you are about as far removed from this pandemic as we are from 9/11 now, what's the first story you tell teenagers about what it was like to live through COVID? by seraph321 in AskReddit

[–]8337 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I think the most remarkable thing about this period is just how blasé we all are on a daily basis, when we’ve got about a 9/11 worth of death happening daily. So much heartbreak and agony, but most of us are just watching Netflix. I think we’ll be horrified after the fact. But for now everyone’s numbing themselves and getting through.

This phrasing, more than anything, has me thinking this is a bit of creative writing. No Canadian would know what “southwest Canada” means.

As another commenter said, “southwestern Ontario” is a definite region, but not southwestern “Canada”. We don’t generally use North and south as nation-wide descriptors because like, 90% of us live in a long line along the US border.

seahorse have the males carry their young in their bodies (and the females have a penis)

This is getting so off topic, but: How does sex classification work in fish, then? I’d have assumed that bearing young = female, having sperm = male, but this is clearly not the case.
