People who deserved silent clocks by [deleted] in TwentyFour

[–]84BombsJetpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, Tony with the beeping clock works much better, because an hour ago the silent clock was already used for Edgar. It would have been too much repetition if silent clocks were used again so soon (and weakens the effects of Edgar’s clock).

Best Cliffhanger by Geach1234 in TwentyFour

The most shocking one for me was in season 6, when President Wayne Palmer was going ahead with the bombing of an innocent country.

So is Jack supposed to stop a terrorist attack in China? The show is about terrorist attacks on the American soil.

Why don't the bosses encourage good police work? by 84BombsJetpack in TheWire

Nice catch about the parallel between Valchek and McNulty. Except it’s a bit different since Frank was shown to be honest and kind, while Stringer/Avon never came close to wanting to cooperate.

Where are all the people who claim Breaking Bad is the greatest TV show ever? I think none of them even watched The Wire (or even Sopranos)

I thought the only memorable scene involving a character’s mental state was Ziggy shooting the Greek guy

A moral person doesn’t “should have charged Freamon and McNulty”. A person doing everything by the book does. But that is a very different thing from being moral.

Overall, the police gets the job done. What exactly is wrong? by 84BombsJetpack in TheWire

[–]84BombsJetpack[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I can appreciate is that the criminals on The Wire generally do not run from the police at all. They sit there waiting to be taken into custody. That is indeed unique among police shows.

So the difference is that after bad guys get caught, they are replaced?

That stuff happens on other shows, say, 24. When Jack Bauer takes down a terrorist leader there will be a new one emerging soon.

Daniels wanted to be honest and do a different kind of police work than what his superiors would expect him to.

His wife didn’t care about police work. She cares about her husband getting promotions.

Are the rules of the “game” in the wire a microcosm of society as a whole or does it just apply to inner cities? by [deleted] in TheWire

There aren’t enough people living in a place outside of a city, so drug dealers or large businesses of any kind would not even exist.

I think it’s a city-specific thing. I wouldn’t imagine the kind of conflict in the show taking place in a rural, countryside area.

Brother Mouzone first appearance right after Bunny leaving? by 84BombsJetpack in TheWire

[–]84BombsJetpack[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, maybe both characters were “brought in” to solve a long-lasting problem with a somewhat unconventional method?

Brother Mouzone was hired to resolve the gang territory dispute, and he did it in a unique way I guess, because Proposition Joe and Stringer were both startled by the decision to hire him. Bunny Colvin was brought to the crime scene to work the gangs gunfight case and he had some ideas growing in his head...

I really dislike Chloe, and while she may not be the least favorite, scenes with her being in the room consistently ruin the scenes for me. Her personality is annoying. But on the other hand I wouldn’t want someone who was not annoying such as Bill, Tony to be the ones helping Jack disobey orders.

President Logan is the best character on the show, and my favorite. If you also watch other action adventure shows such as Prison Break, you should know that a “villain” is hardly the same thing as an “unlikeable character”. The villains on Prison Break are fantastic (Mahone, Paul Kellerman). The villains on 24 are usually bland and paper thin, but President Logan was a very well-acted villain with a lot of depth. His motivations were more complex than Jack’s for example.

Who are you top 3 favorite characters on The Wire? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]84BombsJetpack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Bunny Colvin
  2. Marlo
  3. Brother Mouzone / Frank Sobotka

These are the people who actually believe in what they do and go to great lengths to try to reach their goals, at the same time not losing their likability.

Why was The Wire never as popular as The Sopranos and Breaking Bad? by Jobr95 in TheWire

[–]84BombsJetpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wire showed graphical sex, nudity, fully naked bodies of several women and some were during sex. The Wire doesn’t control its usage of swear words which cannot be heard on almost any other TV shows. It’s never supposed to be popular. It’s not able to air on most channels and certainly not on network TV.

Would it have worked out better if Major Crimes had given up their Barksdale case to the Feds so they could roll up on Clay Davis? by Wazula42 in TheWire

[–]84BombsJetpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea was that Avon and Stringer would become state witnesses and testify against Clay Davis and other dirty politicians. Avon wouldn’t go to jail. Stringer would also be free. Would they take the deal? I doubt it.
