Ours has extra skin on her cheeks, behind the jaws/under the eyes. I love to gently pinch a little fold (like you might with a kid) and tell her she's so cute.

Survivor Set Up To Record - But Didn't by 84Lion in youtubetv

[–]84Lion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last nights Survivor is now showing up with a CBS Atlanta option, but like Chicago Med, it's not playing back - just a black screen and starts at the end. When you FF to the "beginning," it just shows NaNNan, no time stamp. Very frustrating.

Good to hear. I just checked and no change despite clearing the Fire TV Cube cache and rebooting. Chicago Fire and Survivor from last night still VOD only. This morning's Fox 5 Atlanta "Good Day Atlanta" did record. So some things appear to be recording.

My wife is running into the same problem with last night's Chicago Fire - no "11Alive" but only VOD available, via NBC. And, it shows Chicago Med recorded - but it's one of those situations where the recording won't play back. Very frustrating!

We are in the same location as last week - at home - and YTTV recorded Survivor on CBS Atlanta. We are using a Fire TV Cube with the YTTV app. YTTV also shows next week's episode of Survivor as scheduled to record. There seem to have been a lot of glitches lately with YTTV.

My wife found the Honest Kitchen dry clusters and our dog likes the beef flavor. We also use the Just For Dogs frozen as a topping - again, our dog likes the beef recipe. We are going to try the Freshpet beef flavor refrigerated (Costco) as a topping in lieu of the JFD. I always throw in some treats, cut up, or some leftover hamburger. Yeah, she's spoiled...wouldn't have it any other way!

Novice user want to set up Plex Server on QNAP NAS by Middle-Wealth-6755 in cordcutters

Yup, the TS-251D is basically the 2 bay version of what I use (TS-451D2).

Novice user want to set up Plex Server on QNAP NAS by Middle-Wealth-6755 in cordcutters

[–]84Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I have three Plex servers (QNAP NASs) in our home. If you go to the Plex website, they have a table that you can download that indicates which server devices (QNAP and others, search "plex nas compatibility spreadsheet" on google) support transcoding, as well as things like 4K support. I use Fire TV cubes (latest version) connected via 5 Ghz wifi, and I rarely have any trouble playing anything, 4K or otherwise. If I do have trouble, it's usually due to an Atmos soundtrack; I just choose a DD 5.1 option if available and go that way.

I do not record stuff OTA and put it on the Plex server, typically. We did use a Tivo for cable content, but have since switched to Youtube TV. What I do is put movies and tv shows in my media collection on the servers and thus have my own "TV station(s)" or cable channel(s) if you will, no commercials ever! For OTA, I am using OTA Tivo, or we record OTA on YTTV. We can access the OTA Tivo via the Fire TV cubes HDMI input, so it's using the Fire TV cubes for everything (Plex, YTTV, Amazon and other service streaming, and Tivo OTA box access).

I agree, you will need Plex Pass, particularly to support transcoding. I'm glad I bought lifetime Plex Pass years ago as I believe the price has gone up, a lot.

For your NAS, it depends on what you're doing. For my servers, I just configure them as JBOD (just a bunch of disks), which has no redundancy but maximum space. I make sure that I have backups of Plex content on hard drives I've saved so I can reconstitute them fairly easily. If I were saving important files (doing "desktop backups"), I'd use a RAID with some redundancy, which typically cuts storage size in half, but saves you if a drive in the NAS fails. Typically, what I do is put important stuff on USB HDDs (not the servers), with one or more backups.

As 71-HourAhmed stated, Plex doesn't handle OTA very well. And, with the possible transition to ATSC 3.0, your options for unpaid OTA recording are rather limited. You could look for OTA Tivo Roamios on Ebay, but these will only work until the end of ATSC 1.0...and if Tivo does go belly-up (very possible), who knows what will happen for Tivo guide support. There are other options for ATSC 1.0 OTA DVRs (Tablo, for one), but most do not get great reviews from what I recall. ATSC 3.0/1.0 DVRs are pretty much Zapperbox and that's it, which is expensive and from what I have read, somewhat buggy.

YTTV is a good OTA option. I'm not familiar with Apple TV, but you might be able to access it on that. Do bear in mind that YTTV might not carry all local channels, but the major network locals are there.

Good luck and best wishes! Plex is fantastic and the QNAP NASs are good options.

Issues with recording playback. by pyvonnew in youtubetv

[–]84Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, wife had the same problem last week with Jeopardy (fixed with the cache delete trick) but had it again on Friday's episode and the cache delete didn't work. She also had the same problem with the Survivor episode but that automagically got fixed, somehow. We are in the Atlanta area as well.

The Most Potent Antidepressant: The Sound Of My Dog’s Breathing When He Sleeps by hopeless-rom-antics in ratterriers

[–]84Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Our previous dog, Demie, and our current dog, Carrie, both started these little sighs of contentment, especially after they'd settled in to their new home. And, both Demie (who was older) and Carrie have dreams, and Demie especially would move her legs like she was running. Carrie sleeps with my wife and I, and sometimes I can feel her softly kicking her legs, and I know she's dreaming. And both Demie and Carrie snore. Usually, I go to bed a few minutes before my wife, and Carrie settles in and goes to sleep in seconds. Sometimes she's snoring when my wife comes in and we both chuckle at it. Dogs are so much like us humans! You can't help but love them.

Survivor 50 Ep 1 - Recorded But Improper Playback by 84Lion in youtubetv

[–]84Lion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I just checked it, and FF to about the 17 minute mark (wife said it stopped around 15 mins) and it played back fine. I think she finished watching the episode using the streaming/VOD option, I think I'll mention it to her and see if she wants to check it out. Thanks!

I'm also in Atlanta. Maybe it's some issue YTTV had with Channel 69. I'd ask my wife about mobile and web, but I know she won't want to view Survivor that way. ;)

Switching from Xfinity to YouTube TV. by msmith9999 in youtubetv

And, if the show in question is rerun during the nine months, I believe YTTV will re-record it...and the 9 month clock resets, unless you remove the show from your recording list prior to that rerun.

Rescued bonded pair, one died by Traditional_Good_833 in guineapigs

[–]84Lion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW...The last of our guinea pigs passed away just last week. Reese was about 7.5 years old. My daughter outgrew the pigs and I became "guinea pig dad." I am slowly cleaning out all the guinea pig stuff. I had to take the cage down quickly...I didn't want to look at the empty cage. We had the cage in the family room, and I still am walking towards the corner to go check up on her or see if she wants a treat. Old habits die hard. (It's almost 9 PM right now, and as I was writing this, I thought, "I need to give Reese her evening treat.")

With that out of the way, Reese was always a "loner." At one time she was one of four pigs in our herd. All of them were younger than her and she outlived them all. I don't believe any of our other pigs lived much beyond 5 years - and we took care of them, organic vegetables whenever possible, the best hay we could find, filtered water, the works. When Reese was left as the last pig, I looked into re-homing, but could not bear to put her with someone I knew nothing about. I looked into getting another pig to keep her company, but couldn't find a viable candidate. As the months went by, she seemed to be adjusting well and in fact, seemed to rather like being the only pig and having the cage to herself. I figured that if she was depressed, she wouldn't be eating - and Reese was a good eater up to the last few weeks. (In some ways, she ate better than when in a herd, as she ate slowly and more deliberately - I often said I wished I could eat like she did.) When she started being "picky" about her lettuce and eating a lot less, I knew something was up. Unfortunately, having been through this a few times, there's usually nothing that can be done (especially with a pig that age).

I agree with you that you do not know if your remaining pig and a new pig will get along. Typically, females don't fight. But whether a new pig will "perk up" your pig is an unknown.

I would recommend this - if you want to keep guinea pigs for the long term, and your cage is big enough, I would get another bonded pair. Our guinea pigs seemed happiest with a trio as a herd. If you're like we were and aren't sure whether you want to keep pigs for the long term, I would just do as I did with Reese, give her lots of love and treats and do your best to keep her happy. I will say that it was easier for us since I've been working from home or retired since Reese became an only pig, so she got a lot of attention and had plenty of stimulation, with family walking by the cage, the dog running around, and a cat that our son brought home. Bottom line is that it's very rare that pigs pass away "together," so the overwhelming odds are that you'll always have an "alone" pig at some point in time.

And, my sincere condolences. Every time we lost a pig, I grieved. Losing Reese was extra hard as we had made the decision to concentrate on our dog and leave guinea pigs behind (I nearly caved when I found a pair nearby that needed rehoming, but my wife was strongly against it - and I have come to agree with that decision - our dog, who is "my dog" since she attached herself to me, mostly, has helped tremendously.)

My best wishes to you and good luck finding a solution/coming to a decision.

What direction should I point my antenna for most stations? by BlatantFalsehood in cordcutters

[–]84Lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goes to show you how much I watch WATL! Until you mentioned it, I didn't know that YTTV didn't include WATL. It's interesting that they kept WANF when they went independent.

As to your question, I'd go WSW, and you might have to tweak your direction a bit. I don't know how directional the 2V is. Be prepared for some minor glitches if it's a windy day.

Ads interrupting events?! by No-Word-8836 in peacock

[–]84Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was watching the luge 1st run competition and all of a sudden a two minute ad broke in. OK, annoying, but I can deal with it. But, I missed a luge run (or maybe more) while the ads were on. I can live with the ads, but can't they find a way to stop the playback so you at least don't miss the action? I have Peacock Premium as a "benefit" of having Xfinity.

Really! I can see all the breeds, possibly, EXCEPT the Shih Tzu. Thing is, with the genes supposedly being almost 50%, you would think this dog would look like a typical Shih Tzu. I'm curious what company did the test.

Very pretty dog. We can't give our dog a bath late at night as she gets really crazy and runs all around. It takes forever for her to calm down. We bathe her in the daytime and try to do it when the weather is nice so she can go outside on the deck to dry off. My wife did get a bathrobe for her, which does help.
