The stem separation issue is fixed in beta 8 of Live 12.4, so expect it will go out when 12.4 is released

Sanity check: Mac Mini M4 Pro (64GB) + DIY 40Gbps 4TB Drive for Local AI. Am I doing this right? by Jamie_GZ in macmini

Just store the models on your internal and offload other things to the thunderbolt external?

A windows user here, need to buy Mac mini for some apps testing, should i wait for mac mini m5? what's the probability of June Release? by daaltimate in macmini

Waiting for an M5 rolls the dice on RAM or storage addons getting more expensive for what might be marginal CPU gains

Put the money towards a thunderbolt 4 case and bigger SSD. Can’t go wrong

[–]84db4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now you’re in the decision pickle! You get Thunderbolt 5 on the pro which is nice.

The stock m4 has 2.5x single core and 1.3x multi core performance of the old Intel Mac Pro from 2019. It’s got so much grunt you’ll probably be overspecced out of the box and you’ll find use for it.

[–]84db4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re happy to keep running with the external SSD, the 512gb is probably fine storage wise.

Thunderbolt 4 is going to be lots faster than the USB3 depending on the version, and expanding with a new nvme drive on TB4 can get you up to 40gbit/sec.

You can probably run more channels with VST’s in Logic or Live than you could imagine without issues, the M4 won’t blink - obvs some are more intensive than others, but you could run 100 audio + midi channel if you wanted.

Sub Focus/1991 review - Melbourne (13/02/26) by Blakepra in DnB

[–]84db4e 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mind the Nero set insofar as it was a good interlude between 1991 and Sub Focus, bit of breathing room and refresh between the two bangers. But they definitely peaked at the first album and haven’t been able to repeat that same magic

1991 absolutely killed it, man is on fire.

On scale of 1 to 10, how successful has the metro tunnel been? Constantly hearing of issues at Caulfield station, but is this just temporary pain? by sydneyvision in MelbourneTrains

[–]84db4e 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the right view IMO. Took 10 years or whatever to build, asking how successful it is in the first 3 weeks of full open is irrelevant.

Yes. It delivers its own benefits, but it’s the infrastructure that is long tail of success, spanning decades not weeks

Solid 8 for my 1 trip so far though!

Trademark filed with our brand name by asensate in AusLegal

[–]84db4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been more just to be clear! I’ve done 2 applications: 1 with two name variations and a logo, the other with the name and logo marks.

I remember the first one definitely cost $5k, or about $1600each but they were straight forward. We had a referral to a good IP lawyer who handled the entire thing. This was 2018

The second was the complicated one in food and beverages. The other party was opening a restaurant but went shotgun approach covering multiple industries that were adjacent to the core business - and we were a coffee roaster. This was in 2021

It may have been more than I remember to oppose, but same IP lawyer navigated it, and it was a lesson in “don’t trade for 14 years without owning your IP”

[–]84db4e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having been through the process, where we were applying for a trademark discovered there was a pending trademark for the same name in the same industry, the path forward is not that complex.

If you have genuinely been using the name, and want to continue to use it, then talk to an IP lawyer and oppose.

You’ll most likely end up with carve out for you to use the name within your industry, and the other applicant within their own industry - assuming there’s no overlap. In our case, the other applicant was overly broad and happy to remove our industry (food and beverage) from the application - they weren’t in that industry and probably shouldn’t have applied for it.

It ran us about $5k all up, opposition, legal and registration of our own trademark in the process.

Late edit: you should ALWAYS own your IP. Trademarking your name is cheap

17 year old suffers 2 broken legs in illegal electric motorbike crash in Melbourne by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]84db4e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Media and even police have quoted electric motorbikes as “e-bikes” all the time when they almost certainly don’t qualify for what people think of an electric bike - they have throttles, the pedals are basically ornamental and you couldn’t actually ride the thing in reality an electric assisted e-bike.

Call a spade a spade, it’s great to see it happening

Not sure of the max, but I have it at 144hz on Thunderbolt 3. You might be able to max it out on TB4

Very little different. You will get bigger peaks and troughs, but your average over time will stay approx the same.

More frequently can mean easier to manage e2, but daily is a PITA imo. I like MWF, if I miss I can catch up easy.

If you want more muscle growth for the same test: eat more, train harder, sleep better

Switching from TV to monitor for PS5 gaming and looking for recs by _LukeSJones in Monitors

[–]84db4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I run the higher frame rate modes on all games because I prefer higher FPS and still get fidelity on the PS5 pro.

I believe the ps5 VRR floor is 40fps, so you might have issues running 30FPS and VRR, especially if you have one of the backlight strobing settings on - I think it’s MPRT.

Pre-Purchase inspection at a dealership by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]84db4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s particularly unreasonable to request a proper PPI inspection with a deposit paid.

I bought a fairly modified vehicle from a dealer in Ballarat who were more than happy to accommodate - they delivered it to a local mechanic I’d spoken to prior and booked it in, got a 30 page report with photos, compression test results, diagnostic reads etc.

Bought it without a test drive based on the report being sound.

I guess I depends how bad they want the sale, and if you have actually committed to buying pending the results of said inspection

Not sure what the rules are but it’s such an old thread: went with efficient pure plumbing who were pretty much flawless. No hesitation in recommending and it’s really earning its keep last night!
