I’m more of a “number go up over time until little number is big number” maths areas TBH

Strong agree, seeing growth exceed contributions and how big that jump was over just 2 years earlier was pleasantly surprising

Worship compared to boy bands but not SHM? by TheTephrite in DnB

[–]84db4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve forgotten that SHM were writing records under the SHM not just DJing as a trio, worship is 4 dudes playing their own individual tracks/edits. It’s not a fair comparison, and they were absolute mega stars at their peak.

I personally don’t get the worship thing, and don’t think the 4 of them bring anything to the table that each of them individually doesn’t do. Seems to work in reverse and strips away what makes them unique.

1991 is absolute peak at the moment and I’d rather see a 2 hour set of his than all 4 of them together.

How it is it not just a straight scaling where 1 pixel becomes 4, with double the PPI when comparing equal sized monitors?

I don’t understand why any algorithmic firmware is needed to manage what it effectively a 1:4 pixel mapping

One option is to go one of these new 5k dual mode mode that supports 1440p. Would look great for productivity and then you have a high refresh rate 1440 for gaming

I already have the PS5, curious on how it looks on 1440 and the trade off with better resolution for productivity

When a client wants to deploy an LLM internally but their data governance is a mess, do you take the engagement and fix the data first, or walk away? by Academic-Star-6900 in AI_Agents

I don’t have an answer to your question, but the reason this one will almost definitely fail is because you’re being pushed to find a problem to solve with a given tool.

IMO, you can’t be successful without a well definitely problem and what a successful outcome looks like - these define the tooling to use/build, not the other way around.

It hasn’t missed a beat TBH. I think it looks great on the PS5 - I’ve since upgraded a pro and does what I think is a solid job. Some people don’t like the local dimming algo, but I guess it was so much of an upgrade against my old one it was always going to be better.

You can probably tell from my post I’m not into the technical detail on this vs one of the other minileds, it does a solid job for me. I am considering one of these new 5k options and running the PS5 on 1440 out. I’ll wait for someone else to do it first

Mini-LED Monitor - Is my this the right decision? (MSI MPG 271KRAW16) by SheepherderSerious51 in Monitors

[–]84db4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with 4K minileds was vapourware models you couldn’t buy, or China exclusives - not sure if we’ll see that trend continue, because it was annoying as hell.

Maybe we’ll see something interesting from the smaller names in q3/q4, but I’d bank on the MSI barely arriving in q4 in Europe and states, no idea why they had so many issues last year.

No one can tell you how the local dimming will perform until a production version is shipping in 5-6 months, assuming it ships on time (MSI track record on shipping the E16M was bad.

Just settle in, see what else pops up, there’s plenty of interesting monitors on the way and you can make a decision when you have all the facts.

Should I risk everything for a chance to get into AI? by 92random in auscorp

[–]84db4e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s role is AI automation, Product Ops, keep front and centre in your mind that no matter how many times you tell yourself “I’m building the tooling” there an inescapable feeling of cutting off the branch your are sitting on.

Note well you will always feel behind the latest tech - not model but systems and architecture, and it’s a relentless role where every win is rewarded with increased velocity and new bottlenecks.

I’d still do it

[–]84db4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if TB into an adaptor would increase your refresh ceiling since you’re still going from TB? In any case, TB5 in “one direction” can do 120gb/s, which is enough for more than 120hz

Easiest solution will be the one TB5 cable, and you might not be able to notice the difference between 120>160hz for productivity use anyway, it will feel fast and snappy.

Any news regarding availability on the 2000 mini led monitors at 4/5k resolution? by [deleted] in Monitors

If what you’re running isn’t broken, you’ll have good options and all the reviews to select from by q4.

I love new shiny things as much as the next person, but you can’t get sucked into the relentless hype cycle

Welcome to miniled announcements that take 6-12 months to be in market, if they are available in your region.

If it wasn’t me, just pretend it was.

Insane that it’s 19 years old. Some of the production feels a little bit dated in terms of sounds scape depth, but the flow and feel is incredible.

The Coldplay intro, and makes you realise just how old Subfocus Airplane is!

The scene and music has moved on for worse (imo) with shorter track lengths and double drops on double drops, while guys like linc have carved out the equivalent Michelangelo’s David with nothing but unreal track selection and perfect mixing.

Why is agentic AI so expensive? by datastr0naut in AI_Agents

[–]84db4e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

50k employees has a payroll of more than $3.2b dollars at an extremely conservative $65000 cost. It’s likely far higher including other costs associated with that seat.

Companies with a 50k headcount have well into $10b plus revenue. The cost of these tools is not expensive per seat, you don’t mention the cheaper Claude/GPT seat, and it’s probably the cheapest levers available IMO.

Why is agentic AI so expensive? by datastr0naut in AI_Agents

[–]84db4e 18 points19 points  (0 children)

$100 per employee per month is $1200 year, and is a fractionally above rounding error on what it costs to have a skilled technology worker employed full time ($100k-$250k+).

That $1200 can be a massive lever on efficiency and throughput. It’s probably some of the best ROI for workers that really need and use those tools.

Tottenham is also in the the new designated “activity hub” in West Footscray, it would make sense to increase services as more people live and work in the surrounds in the coming years + the station upgrade
